Awesome news!! I loved the first one (PC of course). I hope this one lives up to the original PC version.

Everyone is aware that the original devs aren't working on this, right? Everyone has also seen the terrible quality of the 5 or so titles with the "FarCry" name on them since the original came out, right? Expecting FarCry 2 to be any good is like expecting a new Freddy or Jason movie to be good. :) We got one good title long ago, followed by constant and unrelenting garbage.

What was wrong with Instincts Predator on the 360?

It looked basically like the Xbox version, and the performance was terrible. It was a poorly done port.

far cry is NOT Crysis either...2 different games.two different engines as well: Dunia (Far Cry 2), CryENGINE2 (Crysis)
Dutch to English translation (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://tweakers.net/nieuws/50850/ubisoft-licht-tipje-van-de-sluier-over-far-cry-2-op.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://tweakers.net/nieuws/50850%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DxUy)
For the engine, which was announced under the codename Dunia, only 2 to 3 percent of the Cry engine reused. "It is a technically strong engine, which must be better than the Cry engine," says Michiel Verheijdt of Ubisoft against Tweakers.net. "It is a smart engine with a different approach, allowing a game on midrange systems should play. The focus is mainly on DirectX 9.CryENGINE (Far Cry)

Expecting FarCry 2 to be any good is like expecting a new Freddy or Jason movie to be good. :)Lol, I am compelled to agree. If this this game is great, then I will be pleasantly surprised.

Alright in my excitement I did miss the part where it said Crytek isn't doing the console versions :(. Anyway I still have some hope.

Btw who said Farcry 2 was Crysis? I would hope everyone is well aware that's pretty wrong.

So what does FarCry2 have going for it (graphics is not as you can see in the demo)?

Well I liked the interaction with the environment, especially how everything that should break does and the way fire spreads was pretty cool. I think the graphics will be fantastic, I've heard nothing but good things about them and you know that crap quality camcorder video isn't doing it justice. Personally I just hope it's not the glitchy mess that Crysis was and has some smarter AI than Crysis did. The jump from the tropical jungle island to the African savannah is a nice change of pace as well the completely open world.

I just loved the open environments of the original. Hopefully if they keep that aspect and add co op and this gen graphics, I should be happy.

Crytek isn't doing the PC version, either.

Its being done by a top team at Ubi Montreal. It should be an excellent game, though it was designed from day one to be a PC exclusive. So the quality of the console ports is up in the air. Hopefully, even if both ports are garbage, the PC version won't be as hungry as Crysis so a reasonable amount of people will be able to play it.

Crysis is a very fun FPS....seems to me the only people bitching about it are doing so out of spite, or because its the new cool bandwagon to jump on.

Or because its not CoD4 :P

Crysis is indeed a fun FPS. I was disappointed though in the crappy AI, numerous graphical and physics glitches, and simple fact that it didn't do a whole lot to evolve from Farcry. They pretty much just replaced mutants with aliens, crazy mutant powers with a super suit, and cranked the prettiness up to and past 11.

Maybe I'm just bitter because my 8600GT bottlenecks when trying to run anything over medium settings though :p.

I liked Snakes On A Plane and Army Of Darkness. That doesn't make them "good" movies. :)

Sure it does, "good" is an opinion.

"Enjoyable" and "good" are different concepts. :) While I enjoyed SOAP and AOD, they are both terrible movies. The acting, script, effects, everything is just bad in both examples. They are just so bad that they become rad.

hey, i actually liked Freddy vs. Jason... LOLIn a perverse, crazy, crossover-fan sort of way, so did I.

And whoever doesn't think Army of Darkness is a good movie can just sniff my anal vapors! :p

Eh, I'm done bitching about AI in games......too many times people want "Sniper Lethal" enemies in FPS games. Of course then when they die every 3 seconds they start complaining about *that*. Its unrealistic to expect one guy to assault 30+ enemy dudes and survive, even with a suit that can take a few bullets.....so those enemies have to have the fatal flaw of being not always the most crack shots.

Think of an FPS as a movie: Would Rambo II have been half as fun if the NVA could actually shoot? Of COURSE not...Rambo would jump up and go "YO...I'M HERE TO" and then 30 different AK's would open up and he'd be hamburger. Booooo.

Its the same for FPS's......now, I dont know about you, but trying to approach some of those pillboxes in Crysis got me murdered a few times, so I really dont have alot to complain about with Crysis's AI. They would try to flank my position, they would hide behind trees or in bushes making them not as easy targets, and more often than not I'd be getting shot at from guys in trees I hadn't yet identified. Really, not alot to complain about there IMHO.

Plus Crysis:
- Didn't limit me to a specific corridor of movement most of the time
- Gave me a suit with magic happy powers to choose how to engage enemies
- Looks purty...even at medium detail...which let me get a sustained 30fps at 1080p...

So all in all.....I gots no beef with Crysis.

But what it comes down to is that I'm going to be hesitant about picking up Far Cry 2, because I'm really not all that into games that ask me to be super-tactical. I don't mind having my hand held somewhat; a lot of times I just want to point and shoot and run and gun, old school style ... probably the reason I'm one of the few people who still loves Doom 3.

I never said every enemy has to be a crack shot. I'd just prefer they used a little more strategy. I want to feel like I'm being hunted, like I have to keep moving before I'm flanked. I don't like that I can turn on uber-speed, run off in the jungle, wait two minutes, and all of a sudden random Korean soldier-42 just decides to ignore the fact I just shot his patrol buddy in the skull and threw a grenade at his other buddies off to his side.

I've also seen moments where enemies will stand in front of me, back to, and fire completely in the wrong direction trying to kill me where I am not.

The AI in Crysis isn't necessarily bad, but it's not really a step-up from what I'm used to either. In a game as hyped as Crysis I expected more.

Also I don't know what game you were playing but when I turned everything to medium the textures looked like they were being rendered by my PS2, not my computer.

Anyway, this isn't a thread to complain about Crysis. It was a good game that didn't blow me away like I'd hoped. Back to Farcry 2.

so what's the deal? With the ship date announced why haven't we heard anything regarding performance of the console versions? What kind of corners will have to be cut ect... Have I missed something? I must have because I thought farcry 2 was still months away.

It is AFIK, why do you think its not?

EDIT: Doh, I forgot its already Sept (time flies). Still though we haven't heard much about a lot of the games next month (or later this month) yet. Farcry seems pretty on track with the news as far as I can tell. Now Brothers in Arms and Fracture... I haven't heard boo on those recently and they come out in the next 2-3 weeks.
