Well I've had Twonky installed on my Maxtor Shared Storage+ NAS drive and it works nicely for streaming media to the 360. However, there's only a 30 day trial and the full version is $40, which seems steep to me for a media server. Are there any other popular alternatives out there that are fairly easy to use? Search hasn't provided me with anything concrete yet.

Thanks ;)

Im a Newbie could you fill me in on what exactly all that means. I'm looking for something to stream all my files as well and does mkv work with that?

try tversity... I've used it and it works with the 360. While it's not as "fancy" as Media Center, it'll play music and cycle through photos at the same time. And it's much faster to navigate through vs. MCE.

I've tried them all at some point b/c I had SO many problems getting XP and the 360 to play nice. But once I installed Vista, I haven't had a single issue...completely effortless.

You bring up a good point..... when I used both tversity and MCE, it was from my laptop running Vista Premium Home Edition.

I've since formatted my hard drive and installed WinXP Pro and havent reinstalled tversity, so the OS it's self could be a huge factor with the two devices playing pretty together.

I may mess around with it this weekend and see how well tversity works via XP, and may even go as far as formatting the drive again and installing Windows XP Media Center Edition since I have a copy laying around that's not being used.

If I do either, I'll report back with the results.

Okay but as far as I know, tveristy can not be run on a NAS. The whole reason I want something run off the NAS (like twonky) is so that I don't have to keep my computer on all the time. If this is wrong, please let me know -- I couldn't find anything on their site.

oops..... my bad. Not sure about it running strictly on a stand alone NAS since it requires a service in XP or Vista to run on those OS's.

I found this..... have no clue if it'll work for the 360, but it runs on a NAS and also have no clue what it would cost, but I'm guessing it's not going to be one of your cheaper solutions-
