Hey guys, i'm a new user here. I just got into this whole home entertainment realm. My roomates and I are setting up our living room and our set up so far is.

receiver- Sony STR-DG510
fronts- 2x Cerwin-Vega 10F
center- sony--?
sub- Yamaha YST-SW216:mad:

i just bought the sub a couple days ago and it sucks! Does anyone have experience with this sub? what i'm getting is floppy bass most of the time. we tried moving it around the room but it just doesn't hit hard. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to possibly fix this problem? If not I'm totally down for buying a new subwoofer with price range $250 or less. size really isn't a problem. But i want the use it for music as well as movies and i would like it to HIT!

Any help is appreciated
thanks

Are you sure it is the sub? You may have your receiver crossovers for LFE set wrong.

no i'm not sure, i'm a rather newb. i'll look in the receiver manual to see how to do that.

IMO you probably won't find a $99 sub that hits hard. Sometimes, unfortunately, you get what you pay for. An AVS favorite sub in the $250 and under range is the Bic H-100. It should be tons better than that Yamaha. You can buy it on ebay - there are a couple sellers and you can usually end up paying around $200 plus shipping. Good luck.

ok i ended up spending extra bucks and getting a boston acoustics horizon hps 10se and i am very very! pleased. does anyone suggest a placement for it. right now we have it in a corner, should i put it up front by the front speakers or keep it in the corner?

Corner loading will get you the most SPLs, so I'd recommend keeping it where it is.
The BIC H-100 wold have been a better option in my opinion though.. Has the larger 12" driver. Would probably go louder as well, as that seems that is what you are after.
