After spending hours trying to get my PS3 working on my TV's component inputs, I gave up and had to ditch my IR DVD player and use the DVI input on my TV to get the PS3 to work. When I hooked up the Xbox to the component inputs, it worked right out of the box. I don't know why the PS3 wouldn't, but the Xbox worked great. Also, the 175 watt Elite is very quiet. I read stories of how loud the Xbox can be, so I'm pleasantly surprised by both units which are so quiet as to be barely audible. I made the mistake, however, of buying The Simpsons Game after enjoying the previous PS2 games; what a mistake. Unless you've got 5 year olds, I'd avoid this third game in the franchise. It's already on ebay. Anyway, I like my new Xbox even though I find the PS3 controller a little more intuitive, but it's probably what you're used to. Looking forward to exciting game play coming my way. Have a great new year fellow gamers!

My DVD Drive in my Elite sounds like a small plane is taking off. WAY louder than my old 360 premium it replaced. Love the extra HD space, love the color, love the HDMI, HATE the drive noise which is reeeeeeal excsessive in mine.

That's a bummer. Maybe with the new power supply comes other improvements. Cost me $450 which is typical list price I guess. I understand that there was a game bundle offer over Christmas, but I guess I missed that. Anyway, I bought off of ebay Gears of War, Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect and the Orange Box. I figured that should give me a good start on understanding this system's capabilities. I'll probably get Oblivion on the PS3 platform as I've heard it has much faster load times with the PS3's faster processor.

if i remember the ps3 version of oblivion loaded faster not due to the processor, but do to Bethesda (developer) putting 2 identical copies of the same game on the same disc. i'll look it up if i get a chance.

Yeah, it seems to be a real crap-shoot when it comes to DVD drives. My new Elite has the BenQ DVD drive in it which is much quieter than my Premium's Hitachi drive. But some have said that their BenQ's seem to be just as loud.

I'll be very interested to see what parts they will use in the rumored newest version possibly being unveiled next week at CES.

How do you know what type of DVD drive is in your system? Do you have to open the 360 up?

Relative to what? The dual exhaust fans are as loud and annoying as ever (See anandtech article on the 65nm design). The DVD drives are quieter than the launch ones, but they still spin at the same high RPM and still overwhelm any entertainment center.

An yes I just used my BB ESP to upgrade to a 65nm Elite and my buddy has one too.

Yeah the DVD drive might be a little quieter in the new Elites but the fans are just as loud. Luckly I only use mine to play games and normally have the volume turned up or I wear headphones so the fans are not a big issue for me. But, I am not going to pretend that they aren't louder than anything else I have in my HT. And I have a lot of different stuff.
