It sure didn't look like it last night.

It was full widescreen but 90% of the shots looked SD. Also since the coverage is on at night VSGLF-HD will not have the coverage on Saturday and Sunday since Versus programs the channel at that time. You will have to watch the standard Golf Channel for live weekend coverage. So tonight would be you last chance to see it live in SD widescreen.

Horrors! Didn't realize the Hawaii swing had started already. It's been at least partially true-1080i for a few years, and hadn't read CBS was changing its all-HD format. Believe CBS true-HD kicked in on weekends for those not getting Golf Channel weekday afternoon true-1080 (as here on NYC's TWC). Can always spot the presence of HD cameras weekdays on the Golf Channel, though, because the oversampled/downconverted 480i here looks fantastically improved. They've lost one potential viewer if it's all WS 480i. -- John

That's what I'm saying, but the Gof Channel HD logo was in the top right hand corner. So I was confused. Guess not.

There is no CBS coverage of this event. All rounds are on the Golf Channel. It looks no different then GC's coverage of the Fall Series which was mostly SD Widescreen even though they have the Golf HD logo on the screen.

I watched it last night. Looked 16x9 to me, which is what the Golf Channel ran during the Fall Finish - the tournaments TGC has alone. I think we will have to wait for CBS weekend coverage to get true HD on Golf Channel coverage - at least this year.

If the Golf channel ever does show hd on any tournament, they will usually use the hd cameras of a network (CBS,NBC). If a network is not broadcasting the golf tournament and the Golf Channel has the rights to the whole tournament, there will be no hd. Just upconvert 16:9.

The lip-sync has been awful during the telecast. Watching via Versus/Golf channel on DirecTV's HR20-700.

Last season's LPGA Championship was done in full HD, handhelds and all, on Golf Channel.

Yeah, that's not true. The Golf Channel has done 4rd productions of HD shows before, I've worked on them. I'm also doing the Bob Hope this year which is using HD trucks, but I'm not sure of the scope of HD as of yet since there are multiple courses for the early rounds which complicates things. Also, the cameras the golf channel uses when they're part of a split feed aren't the "networks" cameras, they're vendor cameras which the Golf Channel shares with the weekend rights holder.
