First off I bought 2 A3's for xmas, one mine one for my brother. What I need to find out is

a)Best dual player out in market: in case I decided to return mine(only) and start thinking of future proofing myself.

b)Does any BD player output 7.1 through 1.3hdmi effectively or is it all just Dolby Digital/DTS core only?

c)What is this talk about 2.0, 1.1? I like the PIP features of HD DVD but don't really use them alot.

d)Do BD players force me to be connected to the Internet to be able to access content on the disks/get updates?

Anyways if anyone can help me out with the above 4 questions or additional insight about the differences btwn the 2 formats that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The "best dual format player is up for deabte. Personally I think the Samsung will be theone to beat.

Not sure on your second one (the BDP30 might do this as well as the higer end 2nd gen models)

1.1 and 2.0 are profiles. 1.1 allows the PiP function and 2.0 allows the internet extras (think Transformers). In order to use these features your player MUST be compliant with these profiles, if it is not you should still be able to play the movie, but you wont be able to use the features.

BD players dont "force" you to access the internet, but it helps. Updates can be downloaded and burned to ISO image usually. As far as features that would go to profile 2.0.

This isnt really detailed, but a quick overview.
