No....

The elite came out well before they started using 65nm processors. All NEWLY made 360s, regardless of the type, are using the 65nm processors to my knowledge. The problem is that there is still plenty of old stock... There is plenty of information and speculation about what serial numbers and lots to look for if you want a 65nm chip. However, there is no way (to my knowledge) to just buy a specific type of xbox and be guaranteed a 65nm chip (all of the current models were first made with the 90nm chips to my knowledge).

Someone needs to count how many times this question gets asked in a week.

No, they're not. Check the power supply, if it's 175w then it's definately a Falcon, if it's 203w then it might be a Falcon but chances are it's a Zephyr. In case you don't know Falcon=65nm CPU.

so far, the only 175's i've seen are the CoD4 bundles at Costco, otherwise everything else i've seen are 203's. honestly, i'm just going to pick one of those up this weekend and e-bay everything else that comes in the bundle, because i haven't been able to find a 175 anywhere else...

see this thread... How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console... (http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx)

Everything one needs to know to verify if they've got a falcon. The pics of what to look for inside the console are pretty helpful.

Here's some info on the chip changes too... The New Chips (http://www.anandtech.com/gadgets/showdoc.aspx?i=3152&p=5)

Are ALL the "Halo" version Xbox360's using Falcon?

I'm going to buy a Falcon chip. This thing is in my theater and sounds like a jet taking off. Ridiculous.

Also, are ALL Falcons HDMI-equipped?

No, no system (Arcade, Premium, Elite, or Halo) is a guaranteed Falcon. Check the power supply it's that simple. If it's 175w, it's a Falcon because the 90nm chips cannot run on 175w of power.

By the way having a Falcon doesn't guarantee a quiet console, some of the Falcon consoles still have the loud DVD drives built-in which is what causes most of the noise.

You actually have to open the box and look at the power supply for confirmation. Even though it says 203W on the box it can have a 175W inside. My Elite uses the 175W power supply (i.e. Falcon) but the box says 203W.

So how do you cherry pick then if you need to open the box first?

I'm not sure, I don't see why you wouldn't just buy a box that says 175w on it. If by chance the store let's you tear the packaging apart go for it but I don't think that's very likely.

Well right now no store in town has them in stock. My only options are ordering online.

Patience young padawan learner (actually you're probably older than me but that's besides the point), just wait till they're in stock and check it out. Or you can gamble on getting a 90nm box.

Honestly I'm still skeptical how much less heat the smaller CPUs are putting off. My Halo box doesn't even have the new heatsink, let-alone the 65nm CPU, and it doesn't get terribly hot. At least it doesn't seem that way, the disc does sometimes feel like it should be melting when it comes out

My DVD drive is pretty quiet as far as 360s go to.

i just picked up a 175 today, at Costco, but they only have them as CoD4 bundle. it's no biggie though, i just plan on e-baying everything except the system, since i already COD4 and all...

and the manufacture date on mine is November 21st, if it matters...

I have a 175w elite with a supposedly quiet BenQ DVD drive - its still a little noisy. Def. Noisier than my Apr '06 Premium.
