View Full Version : To all LCD front pj owners....need opinion
rmccormack 01-05-08, 12:40 AM I am experiencing a blue polarizer crapping out on me for a second time in 6 months with my Z3, this is my filter, ok the last time i sent it in, Sanyo said my filter was dirty, they gave me a new filter, the last filter pretty much looked like this...am i crazy or is this filter completely clean? I clean monthly and usually never find dust, i have what i consider a pretty well maintained clean room ...so take a look and tell me what you think....Thanks!!

westgate 01-05-08, 12:46 AM looks clean to me. i have a panny 500l 720p pj. i clean filter every 100 hrs.
just curious, how many hrs/day do u continuously run pj? per week?
rmccormack 01-05-08, 01:08 AM its probably on 4 hrs a day. It usually is on every day but some days i just dont have time during the work week and wont watch it, but i typically get about 2000 hrs a year
Looks clean to me, though without the other one to compare side by side, it's hard to guess how close the "dirty" one looked compared to this. It wouldn't be the first time I've read here about Sanyo saying someone's filter was dirty when the projector was sent in for warranty.
reconlabtech 01-05-08, 11:24 PM I would send it in with a printout of the photo of the filter next to the serial number on the PJ to prove it is your filter and a note that says the filter is clean and you have a copy of the photo to send to corporate if they claim otherwise.

i have about 735 hrs on my pan. 500 after 3.5 years! dont use it a lot; just for movies and concerts.
i bought a cheap lcd hdtv for general tv viewing so i dont have to use pj, thereby minimizing expensive lamp time.

Fascinating. I have about 7000 hours on my 500, with 5000 hours on the current bulb. Expensive lamp time? Of course it has some other issues, but failing bulbs is not one of them.
I have a Z4 and I clean the filters every 50 hours. Even though my main filter looks clean, when I blow air thru it the opposite way, I can see dust being blown off.

Good to know. ill try to watch it more often.
what r the other issues? or maybe if i dont know about them i wont look for them. LOL
rmccormack 01-07-08, 02:24 AM thats a good idea reconlabtech, i just took a photo with the filter, the sanyo QRP form for the repair and the pj serial #. I will only bust that out if they give me a problem.
Diarmuid 01-07-08, 05:42 AM You might want to have the fan settings tweaked to get the fan speed up a fraction to increase cooling. The filters look clean but it seems for some reason you have a heat problem.

It's been a while since I followed the threads on the z3 it was one I was researching when I was looking to buy, but yeah, I do remember people sending these in for warranty and getting the same scripted "your projector was dusty not our fault" and it was really pissing people off, which is understandable......which was one of the main reasons I went with the panasonic 700u, bulb issues were being brought up with the panny, but all of the posts I was reading about poor customer service from sanyo was enough to scare me off.
rmccormack 01-07-08, 02:02 PM yeah i may ask them when i get it back how i can ramp up the fan, hopefully they do that for me
rmccormack 01-10-08, 11:09 PM Well, i have to say, i sent my Sanyo in this monday, and i see online that it was shipped today and that i will get it back tomorrow. 2nd time it went in and 2nd time they did repair with no hassle, first time it said replaced blue polarizer, this time it says replaced LCD panel. So im hoping i dont have any more issues for awhile.

The Japanese warranty is one year, so that's long gone...anyone have a ballpark estimate of what the repair will cost when it's out of warranty?
I'm getting blue fringing on the right side of my screen, and reoccurring burn in ("image retention" might be the better word?) that only shows up in blue and is also primarily only on the right or bottom (right of center) of my screen. Is that my polarizer, panel, or both?
gwlaw99 09-08-08, 01:54 PM This is the reason I will never buy a Sanyo. Ever since the z1, they have been denying warranty coverage left and right with fake claims of dirty filters. I would send them a letter threatening legal action or even filing suit in small claims court.
