Damn.
Was playing Lego Star Wars: TCS and Had a power outtage today.
When the power came back on, I kept playing for several hours.
Then there was a power surge and my 360 shut off.
360 is an Elite and is connected to a 350va UPS.

I turn the 360 back on and I notice that my HD-DVD drive isn't shown on the bar on the bottom (if you have the drive, the bar is split), but it does show up in the SYSTEM/MEMORY section!

I unplug/replug the USB cable, nothing, My vision camera is plugged into the HD-DVD drive, that's detected and works fine!

So then I turn off my 360 (by pressing the power button).
The screen goes black and the 360 just sits there!
I press the power button again and it fully turns off.. wtf?

I turn it back on, and turn the system off via the controller. Same thing, screen turns black and console stays on, had to push the power button to turn it off.

I went and downloaded the fall 07 dashboard update to maybe re-flash but it's not working (never done an update via a disc b4), i put the zip file there, nothing, i extract the zip and left the file in that folder it made, nothing.

Sigh. Any suggestions with the HD-DVD not showing up in the main dash? (I can't play any hd-dvd movies!)

And the power off issue?

Thanks.

Edit. Thought I fixed it after rebooting several times, it didn't, now my games wont' play!
Put in a disc, it'll go to a black screen and the drive spins up for several seconds, then spin down and that's it. Stuck.

This is from an email I received for MS after my first 360 died this is just part of that email.

1. Always plug the console directly into the wall, into a known, good outlet. Never use a surge protector, power strip/bar, or extension cord. The Xbox 360 has a surge protector built into the power cord already, anything other than a direct to wall connection can cause issues over time.

I'm not saying the UPS caused the issue you are having and I'm know I'm not helping the immediate problem but thought it was worth passing on.

Try running the HD-DVD install disc again, it may help bring the disc tray icon back up. Good luck

You can't. They've added the hd-dvd software into the dashboard itself several updates ago.
