I really like both games, but can only buy one. Here are the perceived strengths / weaknesses of both:
Alien Hominid: 2 player, crisp, clear graphics, tons of ways to attack, humor and art, no button config for my joystick
Metal Slug: character choices, 4 players?, classic SNK buttonmasher, button config, no hd graphics.

Which do you guys prefer? Which direction should I go in?

If you can adapt to the joystick (Why the HELL does not EVERY game have a button config option in 2008!) then AH. Its a really well done if brutally hard title. (For me anyway, my son does well!)

dude, seriously. Button config being left out is just plain stupid and lazy. The way it sets up on the joystick is playable, but not at all ideal. Maybe in the full game you can change it? But I am leaning toward hominid. Metal slug wont let you stretch the screen either so in widescreen you get the top and side bars. Plus the graphics look like crap, retro but they are still grainy

Metal slug 3. Although 800 points is a bit much for such a short game. Then again i used the same amount of points for Heavy weapon. I never even tried AH. Or depending on your points might want to save them up for Omega five next week.

If you want to actually finish a game without destroying a controller go with metal slug. Alien Hominid is harder than hard. But the mini games are fun with friends, lots of laughs.

Alien Hominid is a decent take off of Metal Slug. However Metal Slug 3 is actually Metal Slug. Its the 2nd best game in the series (first one is best IMO), and a total 2D classic.

Metal Slug no question imo. It can be brutally hard though I can barely beat it:)

I prefer Metal Slug but wasn't there a collection of Metal Slug games released on the original XBox that had like 4 or 5 titles in it? Metal Slug 3 being one of them? Maybe it was a different console or maybe it's not BC but if it is I'd look for that.

Anyway I won't buy Alien Hominid because of the simple fact I can play it for free online.

Pretty sure MS made it so it is not backward compatible. They are far too smart to turn their backs on a cash cow like Metal Slug. You know what, though? Mega Man anthology is backward compatible and my bro has it. Maybe I'll just play this and save my loot
