SNF Mixer 01-05-08, 05:33 PM Hi from Pittsburgh. End of the season! I'll look in later.
Wendel
asterion 01-05-08, 08:07 PM Well, not sure about the game yet, but at least the surround is working on the intro. Why couldn't you have been in two places at once, SNF Mixer?
Still OTA from KTSM in El Paso.
Splicer010 01-05-08, 08:09 PM Wendel IS the audio guru for NBC!!! Dude...Audio difference is soooooooo much betteron your show than the early game...
WLWT-DT OTA Cincinnati...
Jose Herrera 01-05-08, 08:17 PM Audio is sooooo much better on this game. Though the PQ was better in the early game.
asterion 01-05-08, 08:17 PM So, now that the game has started, I would say it's back to normal for NBC. Very good audio, rather lousy picture.
ccotenj 01-05-08, 08:25 PM pq reasonable. main cams ok, if a bit soft with a bit of noise. grass good. color (what there is of it) ok. pixelation in background of closeup shots. pixelation on graphics cuts.
audio great as per usual. immersive and puts you in the crowd. we're gonna miss you the rest of the playoffs wendel.
didn't see earlier game, so can't compare.
comcast south jersey.
strong opening drive by the stillers. field appears to be a mess again (although not a quagmire). why don't they install field turf there?
jefbal99 01-05-08, 08:25 PM Out in the living room now and I have surround for this game :)
Wifey had this tv earlier today.
Audio sounds great Wendel, PQ is average as always
WILX OTA Lansing, MI
ccotenj 01-05-08, 08:30 PM well, that was quite the answer by the jags there...
great return by jones-drew, even though it looked like somebody dropped a baby grand on his back around the 30 yard line... :)
Splicer010 01-05-08, 08:31 PM well, that was quite the answer by the jags there...
great return by jones-drew, even though it looked like somebody dropped a baby grand on his back around the 30 yard line... :)
You said it baybee!!!:D
stuart628 01-05-08, 08:31 PM So, now that the game has started, I would say it's back to normal for NBC. Very good audio, rather lousy picture.
yep! 100% agree, why cant they get this right, oh well at least our resident audio guy is getting his job done! sounds great, dosent look so good! OTA WKYC in cleveland here.
Splicer010 01-05-08, 08:33 PM Video matches audio here...Steller as has become the norm for WLWT-DT...;)
paule123 01-05-08, 09:03 PM WKYC-DT Cleveland, one WeatherPlus sub. Looks a bit better than the earlier game, but maybe cuz the Redskins red is gone and not causing problems.
Audio is great, very immersive.
ccotenj 01-05-08, 09:11 PM special teams and defensive touchdowns sure can make a difference in playoff games (well, all games, but even moreso in the playoffs)... jags doing nothing on offense, stillers moving it relatively well, but jags lead...
i'm a bit torn here... i really want the stillers to lose, but i really don't want to see the jags rolling into foxborough next week...
This game looks and sounds much then the first game. Sound is great, video is better then the first game but is not great.
Watching WDIV in Detroit via Comcast.
SNF Mixer 01-05-08, 09:47 PM 2 quarters left!
CapeFish 01-05-08, 09:54 PM WTWC-DT Tallahassee OTA has been sluggish on flipping the switch between SD/HD. They are late going to SD for commercials and then sluggish going HD for game action. Most of the half-time has been SD. :(
dave1216 01-05-08, 09:56 PM PQ is great here in Denver over Comcast. Did anyone catch that Toyota Tacoma commercial with the space background? Looked fantastic!
ccotenj 01-05-08, 09:57 PM 2 quarters left!
almost time to pop the champagne, huh wendel? :)
you doing sunday hockey?
CapeFish 01-05-08, 09:57 PM yay! Back to HD in Tally.
Kudos on the audio on tonight's game. :)
scolumbo 01-05-08, 09:58 PM great return by jones-drew, even though it looked like somebody dropped a baby grand on his back around the 30 yard line... :)
It looked like he ran out of gas on the kick return...on his reception for a touchdown he didn't look slow.
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-05-08, 10:01 PM Anyone else seem to be getting a mic. getting blasted by wind sound making the audio seemingly, but not actually, go in and out?
D*
ccotenj 01-05-08, 10:05 PM It looked like he ran out of gas on the kick return...on his reception for a touchdown he didn't look slow.
yea, that's what i meant when i said it looked like a piano fell on his back...
SNF Mixer 01-05-08, 10:06 PM almost time to pop the champagne, huh wendel? :)
you doing sunday hockey?
Yes. 2 weeks off, then NHL.
W
ABCTV99 01-05-08, 10:15 PM I was wondering who produced and directed the first game wondering if John Gonzalez was back with NBC.
SNF Mixer 01-05-08, 10:17 PM I was wondering who produced and directed the first game wondering if John Gonzalez was back with NBC.
John directed. Tom Roy produced.
scolumbo 01-05-08, 10:17 PM yea, that's what i meant when i said it looked like a piano fell on his back...
yeah, he's usually deceptively quick...just like that touchdown.
tonyd79 01-05-08, 10:25 PM I haven't watched an NBC game in months but this PQ is the best I have seen on NBC. OTA, DirecTV and Comcast all look sharp and little noise. All WBAL in Baltimore (2.0 sound only, though.) Some swimming grass (or should I say swimming mud?) but pretty good overall.
Have they been this good or better in the second half of the season?
scolumbo 01-05-08, 10:30 PM Have they been this good or better in the second half of the season?
This is the best PQ on NBC I've seen this year (via Comcast).
ccotenj 01-05-08, 10:32 PM wow, massive video and audio dropouts at the beginning of the 4th quarter... only me??
CapeFish 01-05-08, 10:38 PM WTWC cannot flip the switch to save their lives tonight. I've seen plenty of the NBC peacock in the middle of the screen during ad time along with SD during the game....like it is right now. :(
MrSmartyAss 01-05-08, 10:41 PM very bad audio for the last 4-5 min.. sounds like el cheapo speakers on full blast
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-05-08, 11:04 PM Horrible call saying that was defensive pass interference in the end zone.
H. Ward had ahold of the CB's facemask the whole time then pushed him off.
This is an all-star crew?!?
Wendel great audio from the crowd tonight, good work.
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-05-08, 11:12 PM Wendel great audio from the crowd tonight, good work.
Then it is definitely something to do with my provider as I am getting an aweful, interupted mix from my surrounds....so much so that I turned them way down for the rest of the game.
Having a few short dropouts, but the PQ is very good.
Splicer010 01-05-08, 11:16 PM wow, massive video and audio dropouts at the beginning of the 4th quarter... only me??
And here i thought it was just me...

Great call. ;)
chad473 01-05-08, 11:28 PM This is the best PQ on NBC I've seen this year (via Comcast).
yeah, it was so so at the start but looks fantastic now. slight ghosting still but otherwise looks great and the audio is superb as always.
ccotenj 01-05-08, 11:31 PM this has been a pretty wild game...
betcha tomlin wishes he had kicked the extra point after the previous td, so he could have kicked it after the last one to go up by 3... it's AMAZING how many times it comes back and bites coaches in the behind when they go for 2 before they absolutely need to...
of course, j'ville hasn't gone ahead yet...
scolumbo 01-05-08, 11:38 PM helluva game.
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-05-08, 11:39 PM this has been a pretty wild game...

I couldn't agree more with the misuse and abuse of going for two.
ccotenj 01-05-08, 11:40 PM sure was a great game.
and a CLASS move by ben waiting for the interview to be completed so he could congratulate garrard. gets big points in my book for that one.
hunter65 01-05-08, 11:47 PM sure was a great game.

i agree, good job ben.
hunter65 01-05-08, 11:51 PM Nice job Wendel. Top of the credits too.
MeowMeow 01-06-08, 12:15 AM As Steelers fan I'm somewhat conflicted.
On the one hand, obviously I want the Steelers to win.
On the other hand, I have an easier time picturing Jacksonville beating NE than I do seeing Pittsburgh beating NE (what with Pittsburgh's numerous playoff losses to the Pats).
Erik Tracy 01-06-08, 01:57 AM I watched both games on TWC, KNBC, San Diego (SA8300HDC/1080i passthru to my Panny TH-50PZ77U over HDMI)
Redskins/Seahawks game had "ok" PQ - noticed a couple of video drops outs in certain areas of the display. Macroblocking for motion shots. Field level shots were good.
Steelers/Jaguars PQ was much better, imho.
Though the biggest "WTF" moment was a total video display dropout when Jones-Drew caught that pass and ran for the TD. What I saw was the pass, the catch, then screen/audio goes blank, then it cuts back in just as he reaches the goal line. Grrr...
I don't get it how the same channel in the same day from the same HD provider can have such differences in PQ between games.
Erik
Nachosgrande 01-06-08, 02:07 AM The 2 point conversion has been a coach's worst enemy since it has been instated in the NFL.
Jeremy W 01-06-08, 02:37 AM I don't get it how the same channel in the same day from the same HD provider can have such differences in PQ between games.
Different trucks, different equipment, probably different paths back to NBC.
Bars&Tone 01-06-08, 09:30 AM I don't know if anyone else stuck with last night's broadcast long enough to see this, but as this was NBC's last NFL game of the season, they ran credits at the very end of the show, and sure enough, there was Wendel's name under the "Audio" heading.
Great job this season, Wendel, and I hope that you'll continue to join us "from the trenches" during live broadcasts!

You'd be surprised just how similar the trucks are. The equipment at the truck level very much the same... after that well it's anyones guess.

Since it sounds like you were there, what truck was NBC using in Seattle?
Southern2356 01-06-08, 06:53 PM nep's ND4. The sister truck with a few exceptions layout wise to ND3 which does SNF.
Mark Vidonic 01-07-08, 12:39 AM ND4 was the original SNF truck, no?
Southern2356 01-07-08, 09:00 AM ND4 was the original SNF truck, no?
It was not. ND4 came on line in June of '07.
Call me crazy, but I thought this game was the best NBC's NFL has looked all year. Still not what it should be, but a step up.
Anyone else?
-Reagan
Wow! Where have all the Steeler fans gone ? Even with the uaual home calls they still lost. And did anyone else notice when the Steelers were behind the clock kept stopping
for no apparent reason but once they took the lead there were no such incidents. But in the end justice was served anyways.
Audio678 01-08-08, 12:34 PM I have been reading the posts on this thread and the ones from this weekend.
You guys are worse than the women on the view. All you do is sit there in your living room and trash out the shows and the jobs the professionals are doing. If you could do it better you would be at the site instead of sitting in your living room with a keyboard in your hands.
jefbal99 01-08-08, 12:42 PM Was there really a need to post this in every thread?
I personally use this site a sounding board for issues that I am having. Its much easier to check with thousands of other HDTV views in other locations to see if this is a nationwide network issue, local issue that others in my area are having, or just an issue with my setup.
There are some members that are on professional crews, audio mixers, producers, etc that view the threads on their productions and take our comments, questions, issues to heart and make changes so the general public has a better viewing experience.
I think that most issues listed in the game day threads are caused by local affiliates for network broadcasts and by DBS/MSOs for cable broadcasts, however, there have been many times that issues have been in the production and they do get fixed if we have an inside source.

That was very well stated and true. So many times sitting at my console reading this forum about issues folks are seeing and hearing from a show that I am at wondering what is happening downstream. Then again there are those rare occasions where there is an issue but chances are we know about it before you even post.;)

Hey Southern, would you mind disclosing who you work for and what you do in the industry?

Well, he was at NBC's 4pm NFL broadcast on Saturday...
