View Full Version : G90 with moome IFB-HD card. Can it do 1080p?

(Edit: this is resolved. I'm leaving the thread here intact in hopes that other people searching later might find it and save themselves times.)

I thought it could, but mine can't, at least from the one 1080p input source I have (Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player).

Here's what I get over HDMI:
480p, 720p, 1080i: just fine (tested from TiVo HD and Toshiba XA2)

The only 1080p source I have is the Toshiba, and here's what I get:
Over 1080p, I get a signal that's VERY dark, and shifted somewhat left (that may well be RGB shift, but the darkness is awful).

Over 1080p/24, I generally get a stable signal, but it's too flickery for watching (no surprise there).

See attached screenshots (first 3 are those that "work just fine"; next are the ones that don't). All screenshots are same camera settings (f2.8, 1/8s exposure).

Any advice? I'd hate to think I spent $435 on a card that only gets me 1080i. If that's all I wanted, I could have stuck with analog (and it would even be easier to integrate into my setup as I have an extron matrix switcher that can handle all of my component sources).

I feel like others have gotten 1080p to work, and I'd like to as well.

Any advice would be appreciated, but especially advice from anyone who's got a G90 with any 1080p capable HDMI input card.

Thanks,
--Jim

PS: I did search pretty extensively here and at Curt's site, and originally posted my question over there as well.

Yes, G90 can do 1080P with Moome IFB.

Your symptom sounds like you need to change your CLAMP settings in the G90 service menu.

Normal, enter, enter, up, down, enter, enter...
SERVICE MENU... INPUT SETTING... CLAMP.
Change CLAMP from AUTO to HP.

What Clarence says. I think its a CLAMP issue.

Yup, got to be the "clamp" settings as suggested by Clarence... I had the same issues when I first received my G-90.

Suh-weet! I'd found another thread that suggested using HC, I'd tried that, but changing it to HP worked like a champ and I get rock-solid 1080p now.

Of course, that probably means I need to wrap up the preliminary setup and pick up the hammer pry-bars now to get cracking on the physical construction...

Thanks a million, guys!

Thanks for the help. I am using JohnW's board and had not been able to run higher than 720P until I followed the advice on this thread. Works great!

I see from your pictures that the G90 displays 24P (23.98Hz)

thought that CRT projectors can't go below 40Hz.

They can, it's just totally unwatchable... (way too much flicker)

I ran my G70 at 48Hz in a totally dark room and it was fine, but 24 is too low. Way too low. It will sync to it and display an image though.

Kevin Yeah, forgot to mention that all Sony PJs must been set with their CLAMP from 'AUTO' to 'H/C' to be able to do 1080p correctly ... That is a bug of the automatic clamping electronic with HF synchronisation signals :o

John,
Thanks for chiming in. I had tried everything with your IFB card and the HD Fury to no avail until now. As you may recall, I had even sent my card back to you for an EDID update. I think you mean HP, however, and not HC. HP clamp is what works. I had posted previously on the HD Fury forum on Curt's site and had no advice. Several others had pm'd me with the experience of the same issue. I am so glad that this is finally resolved after many months of frustration.

I think you mean HP, however, and not HC. HP clamp is what works. No, sorry Kevin, I confirm that I always been using "H/C" clamp mode on all the G70/G90 I've setuped. This setting was always working for all 1080p modes. But maybe "HP" setting would be OK too, I don't know, I never tried ;)

HP works fine too from what I can tell.
