View Full Version : Buying last of the 70 XBRs thread
jordanz 01-05-08, 03:47 PM I spent most of yesterday trying to track down a Sony 70" XBR2. In California, Best Buy seems to be out of new ones, but a few stores have open box.
I found 1 new one at the Fry's in Anaheim. I live 6 hours away but my brother-in-law went there and got it for me. Woot!
So, I'd like to hear where others are finding them. I wonder how many are actually left.

Grendell 01-05-08, 05:47 PM What would you recommend as an alternative if you can't find one?
To me it would seem to be the JVC HD-ILA since they are also LCoS and have 3 chips like the Sony's.
I've heard bad things about Mitsubishi service... you better hope your set works and doesn't need service, I've read more than one story of phone call after phone call to Mitsubshi and sets sitting for weeks on end without getting serviced.
A lot of people seem to like the Samsungs.

The problem is that they don't exist! CSS will tell more but at the moment there are no 70" LCOS TVs to be had.
mbforwood 01-05-08, 08:04 PM I am really looking for help.........I have found a 70" Sony, but am also considering a 73" Mitsy 73833 that also looks good. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. The cost of the Sony is $5100 and the Mitsy is $3400. As you all probably know the Sony doesn't have 120mhz, xv color, and deep color as the Mitsy does. I really need help....quickly. Thanks!

Markz2k 01-06-08, 04:11 AM I saw an Open-Box 70XBR2 for $3861 at the Best Buy in Irvine yesterday, in case anyone wants it. I already have a 60XBR2, and the 70 is too big (and expensive) for me.

My Costco doesn't have them. I called several JVC dealers around the country and they all said that there was no estimate of delivery for the 70. This suggests to me that there aren't any. But that's the point of this thread. Where are ppl finding 70" LCOS?
knightingale 01-09-08, 01:44 AM I just purchased a display model for $4099 from Best Buy Magnolia. He was so happy to get rid of the set, he also threw in free shipping.
I'm very concerned about spending that much money on a display model, but nonetheless, I am happy to be an owner of one of the last 70xbr2 out there. Now I need to go and buy an extended warranty from Sony Style for my peace of mind.
Lo-CA$H 01-09-08, 04:38 PM Yeah, I managed to get a 70XBR2 floor model as well, and free shipping added in too. Delivered 12/22 of last year. Excellent purchase so far. Watching the bowl games and NFL playoffs have been great!

Can you buy the warranty without the TV? I bought Fry's way-overpriced warranty but will switch to Sony's if I still can.

I think you can. I don't believe you have to buy the set directly from Sony Style. I'll find out tomorrow, after I take delivery of the set today. I didn't take BB's extended warranty because the local repair shops that BB contracts out to in my area don't offer in-home repair, and are rather inept when it comes to these new technologies. Also, I'm glad I didn't buy it because it turns out that Sony's warranty is a lot cheaper!
Of course, I don't know for sure that Sony won't contract out the work to these same repair shops, but I'll ask before I buy it.
jordanz 01-10-08, 03:43 AM I found that you can buy them. Here's the link: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&categoryId=27205&storeId=10151&langId=-1
