At this point, i don't know what sucks worse:
1. 5000 not having dts-hd master audio out of the box,
or
2. warner dropping a bomb on the industry.
Is the return line at Best Buy about to get a little bit longer? Personally, I'm keeping mine (with my fingers crossed for a firmware update).

#1.
#2. is probably a good thing.

As long as you get an HDMI 1.3 receiver in the 705 that makes sense. The BD30 has no internal high res decoding. IMO, I'd wait to CES and see what profile 2.0 players are released. As it stands the 5000 is closer to 2.0 then the BD30 can ever be w/o the ethernet port.

Good advice. I still have 25 days in my return window.
705 is HDMI 1.3 btw.

Yes, that's why I said it's a viable option. I believe the 605 and up are correct?
I was in a similar boat and I still might be. I currently own an A2 and 5000. I was going to exchange the 5000 for an A35 and BD30. Since the WB announcement my plans are on hold. I only own 5 HD-DVDs and I'm hoping the Sammy fixes the audio shortcomings. If it doesn't I'll pick up a 2.0 BR player when they are released, assuming they are sub $600 street prices.

Correct, the 605 and up are 1.3.
I have 8 HD DVDs with 5 more coming on the mail-in offer. I'm undecided on what to do. I might end up keeping the 5000 so I can still watch the 13 HD DVDs (and any more HD DVD exclusives I may buy up 'til May).
I just hope Samsung supports this expensive thing and keeps the blu-ray side of it on par with stand-alones. If they announce a firmware fix for the audio issues, it'll make my decision much easier.
I have a Toshiba A3 as well and I'm considering putting it up on ebay as I have no need for it.
