Hi - just got a new Sony KDL40V3000 - Component works fine from the cable box so I then tried using HDMI from the SA 8300 Cable box - I get video only. So - did some testing - the hdmi audio DID work to a different TV. Also - the Sony worked fine with HDMI from my Oppo DVD player. So - has anyone else had difficulty with these cable boxes? How did you resolve it? Thanks very much, D

I often have the same problem with my SA 8300HD. No reason for it. I get sound sometimes... Other times not so much. I still have not found a reliable work arround to get the sound back. I just screw with it till it works.

I hook up the SA 8300 all the time. Make sure the HDMI out is on for Audio not Dolby Digital. And for the "HDMI handshake" to work Cut on Cable box first then TV. Not TV then Cablebox.

I have a brother in law with a similar issue on his JVC RPTV. However when connected to his SA8300HD box and his Toshiba upconverting DVD player is there no audio. The same occurs with component cables as well. The TV when set to Digital audio makes a humming sound. Is this a TV issue and if so what?

Just received my Sony 52W3000 and trying to connect usind HDMI to my 8300HD and get picture but no audio. Looked for in the internet and most say that audio should be changed to digital output....problem is: nowhere in my settings menu there is an option for it... what should I do?

Thanks

Check the manual of your TV for that. If you don't have it, go to Sony's website to find the manual.

To be sure if it's the box or TV, get a DVD with HDMI or some other HDMI source and test it. If audio doesn't work on the DVD then you can probably rule out the box.

This is great, I have done a couple of posts trying to figure this out. I do have Sci Atl cable box too.

Didn't realize this specific HDMI forum existed, oops! (I posted elsewhere on AVS.)

I have Comcast and this does not work for me. The only way to get to more settings is to press the Settings button twice and there is no option to get to this. On the TV as well I only have Stereo as sound option. Pressing the remote to configure it says that it is available only for analog signals.... kind of strange.... I will contact Comcast tech support as soon as i return from my trip next week... Cable companies do suck...until the Net comes to save us...but then, phone companies suck in the US..I'm travelling around the world and many small countries have 30 to 60Mbs DSL already,,,

Not sure if this will help, its been a while since the OP posted anyway.

I was looking for a solution to my problem, came across this forum, then figured out my problem myself.

I hooked up my TV to my cable box via HDMI and had no sound. I went into the Settings > Devices > Audio:Digital Output > HDMI. That solved it for me on my Time Warner Explorer 8300HDC... hope this helps!!!
