View Full Version : Something I would like Toshiba to consider

As many have expressed, the Warner announcement has taken the wind out of a lot of HD-DVD supporters. I am not ready to throw in the towel yet. I think it will take some time to play out.

If this is is indeed the beginning of the end, I would like Toshiba to consider collaborating with a contract manufacturer (Oppo comes to mind) to build a best of breed Universal/Combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player as a parting gift/gesture to all that supported HD-DVD up to this point. This reference design could ultimately be built by many manufacturers. I would like to see every format both audio and video supported (SACD, DVD-Audio and DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, DivX/XVid). I may seem like a poster child for failed formats but I suspect that there are more than a few here in my position at AVS. The problem for me is that I am simply running out of room for all these separate players. I currently have two players (Oppo 970 and Toshiba XA2) and use all the different formats these players support. "One ring to bring them all", to coin a phrase, would be a great help.

Anyway, I'll be watching 'Breach' in HD-DVD tonight which I just received this afternoon from the recent Amazon twofer sale.

Toshiba's press conference is tomorrow. HD DVD promotion group cancelled their Sunday conference. Blu-ray conference is Monday.

Hopefully, we'll have some good news by this time tomorrow!

I wholeheartedly agree. I will go for a dual format player with good feature set & upconversion at this point at a reasonable price.
