View Full Version : Where are all of the Elites??!? New bundle or pricing coming?
sethhobrin 01-05-08, 08:57 PM I wanted to pick up an Elite however they are completely sold out in Milwaukee, WI at all stores.
I see places like Walmart and Amazon still have it in stock with the 2 game bundle for 449.99. Should I jump on this and have it shipped or should I wait it out till stores get more stock in hopes there will be a better deal? If I order one online with the 2 game bundle from the holidays will I likely get a new 65nm processor one?
Best Buy is telling me they won't be getting any in until th end of January.
deedubbadoo 01-05-08, 09:32 PM I would jump on the two game deal for $449. Best Buy's website has them for $449 without the two games.
Yeah the 2 game thing was a holiday bundle. Once they are gone they are gone til next year. I would pick it up now while you still can.
e_e_emarpea 02-11-08, 10:32 PM i can't find an elite or premium at any of the stores i've called in los angeles. what's up w/ this?! they also said they don't have any on order either...
dogmanky 02-11-08, 10:39 PM I've not bothered with any of these "360 shortage.. what's going on" threads until now. This is starting to seem very odd. A co worker today said he picked up a PS3 since none of the stores he checked had an Elite.
assasyn 02-11-08, 11:16 PM I'd wait until after GDC and see what the announcement is first, just in case.
Robocop2 02-12-08, 10:38 AM It's because they're tooling up for the next Xbox ;)...i hope that is a sarcastic comment
hezagenius 02-12-08, 02:45 PM FWIW, I was told by a BB employee that they are not receiving any more Premiums or Elites due a defect in the disk drive. Who knows if this is true. He said he didn't know when they would start getting them in again. A few other places I've tried said they haven't really got any since around Christmas. They didn't know what the problem was other than demand. I've been looking for an elite, preferrably with the 2 games, but haven't had any luck. I quickly thinking of switching to a PS3.
sharkyziff 02-12-08, 06:23 PM I have been waiting for a month for BB to get in new stock of Elites to replace my dead 360 Premium. BBs in the Indianapolis area have not received a shipment of Elites since Mid-December according to the BB Manager I spoke with. He also could not comment on when they would get in any new stock. They normally get in new shipments twice a week, but so far, no dice. I am on a waiting list that I am sure is getting longer and longer and longer...
I hope we start to see new Elite shipments soon at BB as this is really frustrating even for a casual gamer.
Let me know if anyone sees new Elite stock at their local BB.
Cheers!!

Could presumably be the "HDDVD disc drive" that was rumored to be in the works but got killed. This would be a nice way of disguising that without actually coming right out and saying it. lol.
I'm beginning to think that MS finally had enough returns and the publicity associated with a poorly designed console finally caught up enough for someone in charge to call a round table mtg and halt production until they sorted out the mess and revised the "vision" for the future.
I'm guessing there will be good change come out of all this to the hardware design, the mfg process all the way to the XBOX Live service reliability. It will be good and in the meantime, the shortage just makes those who don't have one.. want one worse. Great games coming out soon make the demand even greater.
just rambling... :D
This is definitely strange, and obviously something is up. Xbox 360's, whether they be Elite, Premium AND arcade have been sparse for a few months now where I live. I havent seen an Elite or Premium on the shelf in more than a month. I somehow doubt that is strictly due to sales/demand.
Sounds like there is an announcement coming tomorrow:

Edit: Just an interview with Don Mattick. He does ask him where all the 360s went, though. :)
e_e_emarpea 02-12-08, 10:11 PM i hope it has something to do with 360's being available. i just had my 2nd rrod and im itching to play some cod4!!!
I just ordered mine from Amazon and got it in less than a week with the two free games. It was a Falcon even. Can't really go wrong. None of my local stores have any.
I am not sure about the elites, but my 360 died a couple of weeks ago and I returned it at Costco, but to my surprise they did not have any 360's. When I asked they said that there were 30 xbox 360's that were supposed to be delivery to their store, but it was taken back and not delivered. There are 3 costco's in my area and none of them have it.
I am tired of waiting now, maybe i will just pull the trigger on the PS3 40 Gb bundle available at Costco.
fdisker 02-14-08, 10:41 AM Microsoft finally confirms what we already knew ... there is a shortage (http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN1337448620080213?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews). Not surprising given the strong lineup of games recently. Forza2, Halo3, CoD4, Rock Band, GH3 ... all these games are VERY good. Once word of mouth picks up it's only a matter of time before the fence sitters start buying consoles.
number1laing 02-14-08, 10:54 AM fdisker all those games have been out for months and there was no shortage during the holidays when a lot more people are buying them than there were in January. Microsoft screwed up, shocking I know. That, or someone exec at Nintendo jumped ship to MS.
fdisker 02-14-08, 04:39 PM Yes, those games have been out for months but I don't think it translates into instant sales. I think a sales increase would lag behind a set of high quality games releases.
I'm not arguing with you. I don't know why there was a shortage. I do know this ... MSFT has people on staff who do nothing more than project sales and adjust the number of consoles manufactured accordingly. Something real caused the shortages. It could have been a parts shortage, manufacturing problems, a sudden unexpected increase in sales (likely due to a stream of quality game releases) or, as you mentioned, someone completely screwing up projections at Microsoft. We'll probably never know the real reason unless someone on the inside (like Major Nelson (http://majornelson.com/)) gives us the scoop.
