View Full Version : Should I buy Resistance or Uncharted?
Only got Rock Band right now... So I need somethin else... I have a 360 with 3 shooters already but oh well... Need a PS3 game.
They have Resistance for $39 at Bestbuy... or Uncharted for $59. Honestly I wish it was the other way around because Uncharted looks fun but no online play is a big negative in a next gen game... Kills replay value.
Do many people even play Resistance online though?
Use the 10$ off coupon thats floating around here and buy uncharted.
Resistance is good fun, but if you've got a bunch of shooters already, uncharted will be a breath of fresh air.
Yeah... i dont see how it gets better than COD4 TBH... But then again Uncharted has no online...damn such decisions.
TheSimplePanda 01-06-08, 03:15 AM Uncharted is a more satisfying single player experience. Resistance is a pretty good shooter, but it's no COD4 and if you already have COD4 you're not going to get much out of Resistance really.
Yes, the weapons in Resistance are pretty cool (what do you want from the studio that also makes Ratchet and Clank?) but all I have to say is "gun ship mission" and COD4 gets the edge.
Resistance may not excel in any area, but its the complete package. solid and lengthy single player campaign (12-16 hours), coop mode, good online play, and achievements. visually, it is showing its age, but its definitely worth 30 bucks.
OTOH, Uncharted is just an awesome game. solid single player campaign, decent replay value, and its the best looking console game to date imho. you seem to be the type of guy who only likes to play through a game once. but as a PS3 owner, you must play it.
FrankJ.Cone 01-06-08, 07:59 AM You would probably get a lot more time out of Resistance. Its a solid game for sure with decent visuals and very solid gameplay. And that British accent the narrator has...
Lil. Lucas 01-06-08, 08:14 AM meh, I've isha decided that you're buying Uncharted, ok?

I'd get Uncharted.
You don't need online for every game. Non-online games have exisited for awhile, and beleive it or not, they made a bunch that are awesome! Uncharted is one of those games.
I've beaten Resistance and have no urge to play it again.
Uncharted on the other hand, is like a really well done movie. A movie you can watch over and over again. Great story. Great dialog. Great music. Great characters and oh yeah, Great visuals too.
I've also beaten COD4 and Ratchet and Clank, but the game I'm going back to play again is Uncharted.
bkchurch 01-06-08, 12:35 PM I think you should go for Uncharted. It's like Gears of War shooting interspersed with Tomb Raider-like platforming with a bit of an Indiana Jones vibe going.
I guess I have no choice now. Resistance is back up to $59 and theres no way I'd pay that for that.
confidenceman 01-06-08, 12:49 PM Most everyone here I'm sure will vote for Uncharted (it is our landslide pick for GOTY, afterall ;) ). I'm not crazy about Resistance, and if you're a fan of FPS games in general, Resistance probably won't give you anything new. It's well made and all, but it's not all that fresh feeling.
Uncharted may not have online, but it's very replayable. Naughty Dog decided to forgo waiting for Sony to get their achievement system online via Home, instead ND has an in-game achievement system that'll keep you busy for a while.
Also, "Crushing" difficulty doesn't open up until after you've beat the game on "Hard." It's a challenge that'll keep you occupied for a while.
You can also play through the levels in mirror mode or you can play a mode where the game flips between normal and mirror each time you die; it's a gimmick that'll give you more ways to play the game.
I've put at least twice as much replay time into Uncharted (~30hrs) as it took me to complete the game on Hard (~10hrs), and I'm positive I'll be replaying the game from time to time in the future. Highly recommended.
William Mapstone 01-06-08, 01:31 PM Get uncharted now.
And then next fall when Resistance 2 comes out, get the first Resistance cheap and play the campaign for the story. Resistance has a great story line that you will want to experience before the next one.
Do many people even play Resistance online though?
Yes... Resistance is a lot of fun online. Although graphically Uncarted is superior.... If I had to compare hours of enjoyment out of a game resistance would beat Uncharted by about a hundred times and counting since I STILL play resistance online. Uncharted has no coop or online gameplay so that is a big negative for me.
mjcoffey 01-06-08, 03:33 PM My vote is for Resistance. Simply put it is the most fun online I have ever had. I have had the game since launch day and I still play it several times a week. Of all the shooters I have played - Resistance, RB6, COD4 and Halo III, R:FOM is the most fun IMO.
The graphics on the Uncharted demo look great, but I prefer a multiplayer experience, so I didn't buy the game.

I'm actually kind of bummed Uncharted doesn't have multi now that I've played it. The Gears of War like stop-and-pop gameplay would have made for some fun shooting and the level design could have been really fun to since you'd be able to have a lot more interaction with the environment than in your typical shooter. But the single player is amazing so I guess I can't complain.

C130 spectre mission makes that game forth the $60 all in itself
Un..char..ted! ;)
Seriously awesome game. It took me much longer to finish than COD4, which I think is weak on the single player aspect. (I don't like playing online that much)
