Hello all,

I currently have an Oppo 970 and was wondering if the video output quality is better on the 980?

Also I would like to mention I would be using it with a Pioneer 6070.

Thanks

The 970 (and other players using the same chip set) had a vertical squeeze issue at upconverting resolutions. This is fixed in the 980. At 480i (and 480p?) they are probably the same. The 980 adds 1080p if you want it.

The component output on the 970 may be hacked to allow upconversion of copy-protected discs. This is not possible on the 980.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I am running it at 480i and letting the set doing the scaling. It does a pretty good job of it. If the video quality will still be the same I guess I will just stick with the 970. The black just looks to damn sleek though. Wonder if the wife wouldn't mind the 970 in the bedroom :P
