I just added a new Yamaha 6090B to my system, and have just about finished setting everything up. I wasnt happy with the Sub Output, I use my reveiver in my theater.

I started looking at the settings on the back of the sub and decided to redo everything. First off there seems to be two Low level inputs on the back of this sub. One (Low level Input 2) says to subwoofer output on crossover. The other (Low level Imput 1) says to AV Receiver. The Low level 1 input is the one that has all the adjustments on it, Volume,Phase Etc

My LFE doesnt seem to be as powerfull as it was with the last receiver and I have changed to HDMI anyway...

As I am able to set the crossover frequency and the LFE level in the receiver, which input should I be using? The crossover one or the Receiver one. By using the receiver one are we doing the crossover duties twice?

The one that bypasses the sub's crossover is the one you should be using. I'm a bit confused by your description though. It sounds like #1 is the right one. If you had a picture, that would be more clear

I have this same sub, if you use the input labeled "xover input", the volume control & low pass filter(crossover) on the sub are disabled, you would use the output level & crossover on your receiver to adjust the sub's volume & crossover point.

If you use the input labeled "sub input" you have control of the volume & crossover on the sub.

In my case I have 2 different subs, & using the "xover input" the energy sub was way to loud with my receiver settings to get my other sub in balance with my spekers. So I used the "sub input" & was able to get it to blend nicely.

I think the "sub input" is the way to go because having the volume disabled on the sub is a real pain. I leave the crossover as high as possible on the sub & set my crossover point on my receiver, that way the receiver only sends frequencies lower than my crossover point to the sub, yet I still have use of the volume control on the sub.

You may need to adjust the sub output level on your receiver to get the output where it was with your last receiver.

Here is my copy of the manual for this sub, I got it off of the Energy website quite a while ago, it seems to have better pictures, & be some what more detailed than the copy on their website now???

Read the setup calabration info on page 2, & also the conection info directly above that.

ok, you definitely want to use the the sub input labelled mono input (as far as I can see in the diagram). You also need to adjust your (LP) crossover knob to the highest number (i.e 100) and let your receiver choose a lower value (probably 80Hz if you have bookshelf or larger speakers) Also, you might want to start with the EQ knob at 0 (for flattest response), and the phase you should probably start with 0 and adjust to preference.

Ok I have been playing with this... maybe I should put my entire speakers specs up .. here they are

I have
Sub - EXL-S12 -freq 21-100Hz,
MAINS - EXL-28p -freq 22-25Khz (Built in 10in powered subs) - set to Large
Center - EXL-C - freq 60-20KHz -set to small
Rears - EXL-16 - freq 50-20KHz -set to small

I have the Yamaha Receiver set to 80hz crossover and Bass output to Both SW and MAINS

I was wondering if this looks correct.... more to the point should I have the Mains set to small and lower the crossover?

No that I have dug in I wouldn't mind gowing over the entire thing and redo it..

any help appreciated

thanks
