Ok so I have an Elite w/ HD DVD addon, and an Original white console, hooked up to panasonic plasma w/ 1 hdmi. I was thinking about exchanging the Elite for a ps3 at samsclub. My concern is PQ from component cables on the hd-dvd player. I hooked them up tonight and kept switching back and fourth from hdmi, I know it looks almost similar but keep telling myself its not as good without hdmi.... Am I fooling myself by overthinking if its hooked up with component its not looking good or what lol - Anyone else have theirs wired up with component or wanna give it a try and help me out! Thanks

Oh and the Elite has to be traded for another Elite or exchanged for a ps3 due to a bad dvd drive, thats why its going back.

"hooked up to panasonic plasma"
"thats fine my panasonics 1080i"

I'm pretty sure these two comments don't match up. You sure your Panny plasma isn't 768p or 1080p?

Do you live by yourself? If not, you can try to be more methodical. Have your room mate do a blind study in which they switch the input from component to HDMI without telling you which type of cable your using. Do that about 3 times for each type and have them switch it up on you so you can't see a pattern. This should eliminate any viewing bias you have and allow you to be objective.

I tried this with my gf but damn she doesn't give a crap about HD lol, she says it all looks the same. I guess it's a guy thing

:) I can understand. Maybe she can do the switching and have you look at the picture.

My 2 cents is that there is not any appreciable diff between HDMI and component (in terms of video quality). If you have a receiver and wanted to simplify your audio input, that MAY be a good reason to go to HDMI.

With the near imminent death of the HD-DVD format, you may as well switch to a ps3 as a blu ray player. I picked one up for xmas and will use it for that and the oocasional game.

I picked up a PS3 for BD playback and am happy with it. In fact, after my 2nd 360 RROD'd, I am now XBoxless. I will eventually get another one since I bought 3 games just prior to its death.

doesn't make much sense to keep two 360's. if you care about hi-def movies and plan on purchasing a blu player in the future, trade it for the ps3.
