View Full Version : What should my settings be for SD DVD's on the PS3?

Been playing Rock Band and COD4 so haven't even watched a movie yet in the PS3. So I was wondering what settings I should change or leave alone to get the best results for watching SD DVD's and also Blu Ray so I don't have to switch settings back and forth for which ever I'll be watching.

I have a 1080p TV.

Also I played COD4 using the RCA cables through the whole single player. When my HDMI cable arrived I went back to show some friends "Death From Above" and I noticed a more blurry picture when I moved the joystick. I don't remember this when I played it with the RCA cables. Also the end of the game when everything is in slow motion and CPT Price is sliding you the pistol. All that looks more blurry and out of focus. Is it just me or is something going on when I switched to HDMI on my 47" Vizio 1080p LCD?

I'm sure your video settings are fine for standard def DVDs. Keep upscaling set to "normal" and don't worry about it.

Audio is another issue, but that depends on your particular setup (AVR and speaker arrangement).

As for this other issue, it sounds like you're describing motion blur. It may be that when you switched to HDMI, you noticed it more because the picture increased in sharpness and color richness (and that's assuming that the RCA cables you were using were component cables, not composite).

I was using the supplied PS3 cable, which is composite.

When I'm playing other parts of the game or online it seems fine. I just noticed more on that mission and at the end.

I watched Phantom Menace and it looked great so everything should be fine.

If you switched from composite to HDMI, then the more visible motion blur is because you switched from SD to HD.

I just be watching movies out of the box and have not fool with the settings at all1 It looks so real and detailed. I would not fool around with them at all! Just enjoy the movies.
