Looking to get another upconvert DVD player for the den. We have the Panny S53 and it is very nice. I have a couple questions. Is the Sony NS77H/S a good choice (or are there better) and is there a noticible difference in DTS. Unless it's auditory illusion, I believe I have better sound when it's pushed through DTS.
Any suggestions, help would be really appreciated.
(I guess I could just get another S53:rolleyes:)
Thanks,
SY

The Sony delivers DTS if you have the equipment to process it.

I am one of those who thinks DTS sounds better but unfortunately it's not on every DVD.
All players will pass DTS via optical/coaxial/HDMI for your receiver to decode but very few sub $100 players can decode it onboard.
One way(although not 100%) is to look at the back of a player,if it has 5.1 analog outs then it probably decodes DTS.

Thanks. Both of my recievers can decode (or so I think) DTS, when the DTS appears on the LED readout on the reciever, I know (or hope) I chose the right output. So even though it has optical and coax audio, it may not truly decode DTS? That's false advertising, isn't it? Thanks again for your help.

The DVD specs only require players to decode Dolby(AC3) and LPCM onboard, some manufacturers add MPEG and DTS.
I agree that the DTS logo on players that don't decode is misleading.
