View Full Version : Anyone ever experienced this? - Pic included
PipeHitter 01-06-08, 10:08 AM Buddy of mine has a Mitsu 65", does the below on all sources. Any one seen this before and have any suggestions?
I can get more pics or full model# if needed.
TIA.
hammerdwn 01-06-08, 10:36 AM Model number is needed. If this is a WS series, then it could be a 9v Reg IC, or vertical, or signal. Is the menu affected? Is the DTv OTA Tuner input affected?
PipeHitter 01-06-08, 03:52 PM Thanks for the reply. Model # is WS-65613
Just spoke with the owner and it does not do it all the time, next time it does he is going to check the TV menu. He said it does do it on all sources, including the dtv menu. He does not use OTA so I couldn't not get him to check that. However, if need be I can have him by a cheap one at wally-world if it would help determine the problem.
Thanks.
I'm looking at the right side of the picture and it looks like part of the TV itself, not just the display area, is subjected to this? Almost looks like something out of Photoshop. (Have you seen this for yourself or did the user just send you the picture begging for a refund or something?). Hard to tell if the edges of the TV are visible or not with the lighting on the pic
*shrug*
PipeHitter 01-06-08, 10:27 PM I believe he was watching a game in letter-box, which gives the effect of the unit also being distorted. User is actually a co-worker, and as a matter of fact I did sell him this unit a few years ago, but he's not looking for a refund, just some help. Thanks.
Splicer010 01-06-08, 10:38 PM Almost looks like a magnet affect...
PipeHitter 01-09-08, 10:22 AM More pics, as you can see it does affect the tv menu
PipeHitter 01-09-08, 10:25 AM more pics....
PipeHitter 01-09-08, 10:30 AM So this is sounding like he needs to call a tech out? Any ideas on what the charges would be? He's thinking if its more than $500 he should just buy a newer set.
hammerdwn 01-09-08, 10:35 AM ...WS series, then it could be a 9v Reg IC...
Definitely 9v Reg IC. Tiny three pin surface mount IC on signal board. $200-$250 labor + $10 part.
PipeHitter 01-09-08, 01:21 PM hammerdwn I really appreciate the help.
I have built/repaired more pc/laptops than I can remember, repaired xbox, copiers and other small electronics by following written directions I found online. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron. Now while that's still not a gauge of my abilities,,,,do you think a hobbiest like me could perform this repair given a service manual? Thanks again.
PipeHitter 01-10-08, 12:11 PM Update: I now have a service manual....this doesn't look to bad, would it be possible (if you have a manual) that you could give me the pcb that this IC is on? Or if you'd like to refer to the pg# and item. Looks like the manual is fairly thourough with part# and schematics. Thanks for any pointers you can provide.
hammerdwn 01-10-08, 10:07 PM err, IC9C25 (possibly) on the signal pcb (bottom right corner of board near the terminal board conn).
LightGuy48 04-01-09, 09:32 PM I'm curious I'm starting to see this on my unit too, so is the regulator causing a ripple on the circuit? I was wondering if I need to re-cap the power supply in my unit.
I see it for about 30 seconds when the set is first powered up and I see more on component inputs than the DVI input
hammerdwn 04-02-09, 09:55 AM IC9C25 (possibly) on the signal pcb (bottom right corner of board near the terminal board conn).
.
LightGuy48 04-02-09, 10:05 AM Thanks, I saw that in the previous post. But I'm still curious, does it go into some kind of oscillation?
Also, looking at the schematic, I do not see an IC9C25. The 9V2 supply is regulated by IC9C21 a BA17809FP
Thanks
hammerdwn 04-02-09, 07:00 PM does it go into some kind of oscillation I never asked why, just a known problem with these, replace part problem solved. Post your full model number
LightGuy48 04-02-09, 07:59 PM WS-65613, I guess if it finally goes out (only briefly intermittent at this time) I'll put a scope on it and see if that's in fact what is happening.
hammerdwn 04-02-09, 10:02 PM Right, yours does not have the common surface mount 9vRegIC. Might be the Doubler board 934C063001, or something on the Power board 930B904001causing one of the low voltage standbys to drop or waver.
PipeHitter 04-06-09, 08:57 PM For anyone else who might come across this, I did replace the IC and the set is still working great. Cost me like $15.
bink204 05-25-09, 07:30 PM i am having the same problem and i can fix it myself, is there anyway someone could post a pic of the part that i need to replace? i have a ws-65513
