I'm new to these forums but I thought this would be a good way to get in.

You'll have to format the external hard drive and create a FAT32 file system.
(which means the biggest folder you can have is like 4GB:()
Download dot com has a free utility called swiss knife that does this.
After that you should be good to go.

If it didnt come as fat32 that bites. Its not as easy as just formatting back to fat32 from NTFS. Once its NTFS windows won't let you format as
fat32 again. I needed it use a program called partition magic to get it done.

Plug the drive into a compter and look at the drives properities adn see if it says its a NTFS partition or not.

Also what other options do i have of getting my tv shows / movies to work on my TV since it won't go through the PS3 as an external.

Its really not that big of a deal. Like I said download dot com has a program
called SWISS KNIFE. Took me less than twenty minutes.
Originally had a 160GB Seagate External USB which came out the box FAT32. Repartitioned it with NTFS file system, and just recently switched it back again to use with the PS3.
The only bad thing is that you have to format the HDD whenever you feel like switching.

4gb max single file size. You can have as many of the 4gb files as the drive will hold.

You can download and use MaxBlast 5 from Seagate if you need to reformat it to FAT32.
I used it to format my Seagate FreeAgent to FAT32.

If the drive is NTFS, then the size limit is something like 2TB ( or the size of you drive) , plenty of room for all kinds of media files. Unfortunatly, Sony decided to go with a form of FAT32, an older file system. I believe some people keep media on their PC's and stream it to PS3 via the Media Server option on the XMB.
I don't. Still waiting for a hack/update that will remedy this.:D

I used a prog called fat32format and it worked fine on my Seagate FreeAgent 250GB drive.

its the "one touch" thats the issue return it for another. I had the same issue. Actually my solution was to go to compusa and buy a different enclosure without "one touch" ($15) and switch out the HD. after that my 300 gig external is buttas.
