It looks like it was a very good Christmas for Blu-Ray. Not only have they won the format war becoming the next generation optical format standard. It also looks like a future wannabe competitor is throwing in the towel after less than 1 year of a failed business model. Expect similar in the future.


"Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT - News) quietly canceled its online video download service less than a year after the site went live, a company spokeswoman said on Thursday.

Wal-Mart shut down the download site after Hewlett Packard Co (NYSE:HPQ - News) discontinued the technology that powered it, Walmart.com spokeswoman Amy Colella said in an e-mail. She added that it will not look for another technology partner.

HP spokesman Hector Marinez said the company decided to discontinue its video download-only merchant store services because the market for paid video downloads did not perform "as expected."

Wow, talk about old news... Seems to me Blu-Bois are on the campaign trail.

So much for digital downloads being "the future".

It will be funny one day when someone gets a 1000 dollar internet bill because they went 900 gigs over the download cap. :D

This is GOOD. As much as VOD movies can be useful/handy....I would rather have the CHOICE. And my choice is optical HDM 95% of the time!!!
