View Full Version : Games for the wife and I?
Partagas 01-06-08, 09:45 PM Got the 80g PS3 for Christmas. Would like to find a game or two for the wife and I to play together. She isn't into first person shooters and probably wouldn't want to go online with COD4 as a team, though that would be cool.
Am thinking tiger woods golf. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

?? No... that's uncharted territory in my house; the wife wouldn't dream of even trying a game on the ps3 she'd rather cook me dinner or bring me a beer while me and the kid are playing something. :D
fuseman13 01-06-08, 10:03 PM My wife likes to play Super Stardust with me. I also hear that Rock Band is a lot of fun if the Mrs. likes to sing.
It's expensive, but Rock Band is prolly the best multiplayer game, especially for a couple!
You and your wife can rock out to some sweet songs together, and go online and play other couples haha. If you have the funds for the game, you won't regret it!
I would also recommend warhawk. I know you said she wouldn't like COD4, but Warhawk can be much slower paced if you want, and you too can play together. It might take some convincing, but you two can have a great time driving around in the jeeps or just running around and killing the enemy together on foot.
alexr_avs 01-06-08, 10:07 PM My wife enjoys LocoRoco Cocoreccho and flOw, both downloadable from PSN. She also enjoys playing SingStar (for the PS2) on our PS3 with her friends.
Rock Band is really nice if your spouse can sing, or if she even remotely digs classic rock.
Per the subject line, it should read "wife and me". You wouldn't ask "Games for I?".
For new/light female gamers: Rock Band, Piyotama, LocoRoco
If she's into stories and character: Ratchet and Clank, Forklore
My sister loves watching me play Uncharted and Heavenly Sword, but not that willing to play.
If you want her to enjoy a golf game, don't pick Tiger Woods, wait until Hot Shots Golf 5 English version coming out in March. (My mother don't want to touch Tiger Woods but she can battle me on Hot Shots easily.)
+1 for RockBand... the only videogame my wife has played for more than 60 seconds.
joeblow 01-06-08, 10:49 PM High Velocity Bowling! She'll love it.
rjsanc30 01-06-08, 11:06 PM Along the lines of Rock Band, my wife is completely addicted to Guitar Hero III, Legends of Rock.
We were at a family party over the holidays where my nieces and nephew had brought over their GHIII. My wife is by means a "gamer", occasionally she'll play Chinese checkers or free-cell online but generally that's it....well needless to say that she took to GHIII like a fish to water; must have played for 3 or 4 hours that evening and to my utter surprise two days later she walks in the door with a GHIII....yep she actually bought a video game for herself, simply amazing, never thought I'd see the day:)
snookalo 01-07-08, 01:08 AM I've tried the FPS's with the wife and they've been a no-go. She has like Stardust HD, Rock Band, and Eye of Judgement. Any one of those should be a winner.
pappy97 01-07-08, 01:27 AM Got the 80g PS3 for Christmas. Would like to find a game or two for the wife and I to play together. She isn't into first person shooters and probably wouldn't want to go online with COD4 as a team, though that would be cool.

You can go online as a team in COD4 on PS3?
I play COD4 on 360 and you can't bring guests with you when you play on XBOX live.
jhedges 01-07-08, 09:08 AM Get Tiger Woods08. The wife and I play that all the time, and she really enjoys it. She has gotten quite good at it too. High Velocity Bowling is also worth getting as well.
cooper1010 01-07-08, 09:43 AM my wife hates the ps3. hates it when i "waste" my time playing warhawk until 3 am and calls me "ridiculous" when i try to sneak into bed. however, i downloaded "pain" and, shortly after, we were playing it together for about an hour. haven't done it much since, but that may be worth a looksie.
so's your face 01-07-08, 10:34 AM my wife hates the ps3. hates it when i "waste" my time playing warhawk until 3 am and calls me "ridiculous" when i try to sneak into bed. however, i downloaded "pain" and, shortly after, we were playing it together for about an hour. haven't done it much since, but that may be worth a looksie.
i'm glad i'm not the only one... except my wife doesn't hate it... she just thinks i'm a dork. i'll climb into bed at 1am and she just says, "you're hilarious"
as long as i'm alert for the kids, she has no problem.
but i wish i could get her to play with me too. she's just stuck in the mindset that video games are a waste of time and interfere with physical activity.
but she did love dr. mario several years back... oh well.
WalksInDarkness 01-07-08, 11:30 AM Another vote for Rock Band. The wife was already a partial Guitar Hero addict; but now with the addition of vocals, she is reinvigorated. She is also having fun with trying to learn the drums once in a while.
Other than that I would go for something "fun", most women don't really care about blowing up the TappenZee bridge.
Auditor_Kevin 01-07-08, 11:31 AM my wife hates the ps3. hates it when i "waste" my time playing warhawk until 3 am and calls me "ridiculous" when i try to sneak into bed.
That made me laugh out loud. We've all been there, Amigo. It's the male equivilant to the Walk Of Shame.
The only better female reaction is when we get frustrated at a bad beat in a game and act out. I'll hit myself in the leg. I imagine the looks I get from my wife aren't far off from what Charlie Manson sees after he finishes a sentence.
henningh 01-07-08, 12:12 PM My wife is really enjoying Guitar Hero.

which is why I got my wife hooked on super puzzle fighter high velocity bowling and calling all cars.
This way, she has nothing to complain about when i play my games ;)
JeffMarg 01-07-08, 12:38 PM This is a great thread! I see my wife and I are not alone with our PS3 roles (me playing until 2am with her playfully chastising me).
The only game we have played together so far is LEGO Star Wars the complete Saga. We bought it for the kids, but we got hooked on it, too. You can play two different characters at the same time as a team to complete the level. It is fun working together to find the hidden objects. It sounds hoky but it is a fun game with humorous cutscenes if you are into Star Wars. Give it a rent to see if she likes it.
aldamon 01-07-08, 01:16 PM I'm hoping my wife likes LittleBigPlanet but I'm not counting on it.
Will-san 01-07-08, 01:27 PM +1 for rock band. My Fiancee is playing hard drums like a friggen pro while I can barely slog my way through medium.
I wish there were more strong ps3 multi-player co-op titles. I just finished Uncharted (which is awesome) and she is planing on playing through during my next business trip but I would love something like that that was two player. I think we will be much better off in a game where we play with each other rather than against each other.

i can do better: when she walks into the room and asks me what i said, and i have to tell her i'm talking to the other people playing the game...
Makomachine 01-07-08, 01:54 PM Rock Band is what sent my wife over the edge. She isn't a gamer by a long shot, but after playing RB, she's very open to other titles now as well. She doesn't have any FPS experience, so that's usually not a fun way to start with online play as it's a pretty sharp learning curve for someone to tackle.
Downloaded HVB and she likes that pretty well - although we find the character personalities a little tiring.
I think I may try Eye of Judgement, not really with the expectation she'll get into the game but she wants to be able to video chat anyway with our grown kids in CO and they have a PS3. Daughter is expecting her first in March so she would really like to do the video chat thing anyway... Great thread.
Hide the salami is fun, but if she won't play it with you, try Rockband. Wife sings and I play the drums.
SpeedyHTPC 01-07-08, 02:00 PM +1 for Rock Band again and again. My wife now requests to play RB every night so that we can get more stars and fans!
My wife who never plays games (except Tetris and the crash mode in Burnout 2 once or twice) is actually playing my Guitar Hero 3. I was completely shocked when she said she wanted to give it a try. Hopefully it lasts a while.
JD
Add another vote for Rock Band. My wife never played any games until I brought home Guitar Hero III. She loved that game. Then we played Rock Band at a friends house. She loved that even more. We bought it the next day at her request. Now we play it every night and we're both losing sleep. We always want to play just one more which of course turns into 3 or 4 more.
Dashboard 01-07-08, 02:27 PM +1 for rock band. My Fiancee is playing hard drums like a friggen pro while I can barely slog my way through medium.

If she likes shooter you could check Army of Two.. (if it doesn't suck, i read somewhere it got delayed because it was sooooo bad)
And to the topic creator : Rockband and GH3 gets my vote :D
gabrielh1979 01-07-08, 02:30 PM My wife is totally hooked with Warhawk...we are playing it all the time.
We are doing some serious ownage :p
She also like Calling all Cars and Bowling game.
You guys complaining about your wifes..should be glad you arent fighting over the PS3. I got my wife hooked on Warhawk during the beta. Now thats all she wants to do on it (although she has been asking me what new game is out for the PS3) It's all fun and games until I wanna play something other than warhawk. We solved that problem...two PS3's! :D
moepoker 01-07-08, 03:17 PM Rock Band is really nice if your spouse can sing, or if she even remotely digs classic rock.

Thank you, Captain Grammar.
mbockenstedt 01-07-08, 05:30 PM I guess my wife is weird then... she didn't like Rock Band. I was disappointed, because it was a game we could play together.
I bought Uncharted, and we alternated playing the first few levels one night. I came home from work the next night and started it up, but it said I already beat it. Guess she really liked that game. I can guess she'll like Assassin's Creed for the same reasons she liked Uncharted.
We played COD4 split screen - she kicked my ass. I feel like less of a man now. Anyway, she's beat that one on the first few difficulties also.
She loved Madden 08 - although I won't play it with her, because it'll likely end in a divorce.
We've also got GH3, but she complains that the songs are too hard (she's used to playing GH2 on Hard and getting ~95+% most of the time).
There's this one thing called s-e-x that you can play with your wife :p of course you'll spend mmore time with her if it's a PS3 game. ;)
I'm with the group who's called dorks by their wives. In the xbox my wife used to play some arcade games, and Lumines in the PSP, but you see, that's the wrong part of your wife playing games, then you won't have enough time to play your games. That's why I bought her a lot of books and magazines to keep her entertained while I'm playing. :D
jerrodshook 01-09-08, 12:59 PM Just got my PS3 yesterday and really need some of these games. I was playing Motorstorm and she thought it looked cool, but when I told her it was only 1 player I listened to 10 minutes of "Why didn't we get a Wii?" "I'm never going to see you again." Why do we need 2 controllers?" "This is a waste of money!" So, hopefully one of these games helps.
As a side note, are there any good 2-4 player games? I did a search and didn't find a specific thread about it. For instance, I played Halo on a 360 and 4 of us played. That was pretty cool.... I'm open to PS2 games too since i got the 80GB unit. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

COD4 dude, you can take your aggression out in a safe way. you might have to lose intentionally a few times to keep her interested, but once you got her hooked, then you can start the trash talkin and all that.
Jiffylush 01-09-08, 02:13 PM We have a Wii and a PS3, about the only non-casual game she ever really really liked was Centipede.
She will do wii sports, but hasn't really tried anything else yet on the wii. We have SMG, Lego Star Wars, and a Princess and Cars game, not to mention Super Mario World from the VC.
I just got Guitar Hero III hoping she would play with me, so far she has done the tutorial once and tried to play slow ride like 3 times (all ending in boos). I hope she keeps trying because I think she will really like it if she can get the hang of it.
As far as the walk of shame goes and getting flack from the wife for playing games, I think I am in the clear for anything since I stopped playing warcraft.
WoW caused lots of problems for my blissful homelife, without the constant WoW playing she is able to see my gaming as a harmless hobby.
And now that my kids are a little older (4 and 6) it is starting to be family gaming time, and we are having tons of fun (wife included).
Notsobright 01-09-08, 02:18 PM High Velocity Bowling is super fun. the only game my wife plays. cost 10 bucks to download of the PS store. she will love it.
GlennKL 01-09-08, 02:34 PM As far as the walk of shame goes and getting flack from the wife for playing games, I think I am in the clear for anything since I stopped playing warcraft.
Had to laugh at this as it goes ditto for me.
me: "What are you doing up honey?"
wife: "It's morning"
me: "oh"
mbroadus 01-09-08, 03:15 PM Great thread, I'm looking for something for my girlfriend. With Guitar Hero and Rock Band, do you have to buy add-on equipment, e.g. drums, guitar, etc.?
pbicich 01-09-08, 03:37 PM i'm glad i'm not the only one... except my wife doesn't hate it... she just thinks i'm a dork. i'll climb into bed at 1am and she just says, "you're hilarious"

2 words SEPERATE BEDROOMS:rolleyes:
Gmichael2 01-09-08, 04:08 PM Another vote for bowling.
corymat 01-09-08, 06:11 PM Oldie but goodie - Resistance.
Rainbow Six 6:Vegas (if she's got a lot of patience to retry areas)
We started out I think on Easter last year having mimosas and I suggested we play Resistance a bit together, might be fun, and that started it all. We love playing co-op together, unfortunately, like this thread is showing, there's not a whole lot of games out there that let you do it (split-screen co-op). Really too bad.
hartnetj 01-09-08, 07:06 PM My wife plays UT3 and Burnout, loves both. The only games she will play except for mario on the pc.
sumavguy 01-09-08, 07:18 PM My girlfriend enjoys watching and playing PS3 and wii. Sometimes I have to kick her off the Wii so I can play PS3, but its nice every once in awhile since it gives me quiet time(ie.. her not talking :p). She likes most of the big name Wii games, likes watching COD4(PS3) but said sometimes it gets her dizzy(I admit I'm not the most stable slow person), Resistance, and the sports games that I play. She has been talking about Rock Band a lot, and I might just get it... although I rather get the G25 steering wheel :p
It good to hear others having the same 'issues' with the wives. It started by my wife asking 'what time did you come to bed last night', and I would usually answer, ohh, not to late (she of course knew the time) and would then just laugh (and have similar comments as many of your wives have).
Oh and game wise, it really depends on your wife and her interests. I have almost every type of game on all 3 systems and nothing has interested her. Even GH she makes fun of me saying that I am not a 'teenager' and should stop playing. I have tried DDR but she does not like the music. I guess that part of the issue is that if she has free time she would rather read, or watch CNN or a movie (or sleep, especially with 3 kids).
BummedOutMonkey 01-09-08, 07:48 PM My wife who "doesn't really like video games" is completely hooked on Rock Band. She only wants to drum and can play some songs on hard. She's already a drummer and played a bit with my old band in real life + even made a few bucks at it, but I don't think that has much to do with it.
She loved the Heavenly Sword demo as well and beat it practically unscathed unlike myself.
wirechild73 01-09-08, 08:12 PM My wife really enjoyed Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Lego Star Wars. We play them together and we also play them with the 5 year old. She will not play anything else with me. She did like Viva Pinata on the 360 but it got old. I might give GH or RB a try.
Is Rockband easier for those of us that never played GH, 2 or 3?
jmallory 01-10-08, 07:07 AM The one my Wife and I play all the time is ...
Super Rub-a-Dub
Tiger Woods '08
One's I'd though see like but she hasn't really got into (yet...)
High Velocity Bowling
Virtual Tennis (we do play the mini games some though)
I never really thought about Rock Band...might need to download the demo and show it to her...she likes the Karaoke Revolution titles on the PS2...she can sing while I play guitar or drums. She has been patiently waiting for SingStar. She likes the Super Mario games, so I have been showing her Little Big Planet as well.
Over on the XBOX 360 side, we were fans of the Scene It? Franchise so we have been playing Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action...that is fun.
She has tried UT3, but can't seem to get a handle on the controls....says she used to play those all the time on the computer (old Boyfriend was a LAN party junkie).
I recommend High Velocity Bowling as she loves it. I’ve repeatedly tried to get her interested in other games without any success. She won’t even attempt an FPS since she thinks its way beyond her coordination skills.
I’m lucky in that she’s very accepting of my fondness for gaming, to the point where I’ll be served beer and sandwiches while playing. Strangely however, about once every four weeks on around the same day, I’ll get a controller bashed across the head.
GlennKL 01-10-08, 08:23 AM I never really thought about Rock Band...might need to download the demo and show it to her....
I just got my PS3 so this may be a dumb question, but where can I find this demo? I found some downloadable demos at the Playstation Store, but there are only around 12 of them.
jmallory 01-10-08, 11:34 AM I just got my PS3 so this may be a dumb question, but where can I find this demo? I found some downloadable demos at the Playstation Store, but there are only around 12 of them.
I don't recall seeing the "Rock Band" demo on PSN but I wasn't actually looking for it...I do know it is on XBL.
I doubt there is a demo for a game that requires 3-4 peripherals.
GlennKL 01-10-08, 12:36 PM Well I was actually looking for a COD4 demo...are the only demos available the limited number that I can see at the PLaystation Store? Or is there another source?
tjarrett999 01-10-08, 01:04 PM Another vote for High Velocity Bowling. My wife loves it, and my sister in law (who loves her wii) saw us playing and couldn't believe how much better it was than the bowling on the wii.
My wife also loves Super Puzzle Fighter II HD which can be downloaded from the PSN. She is always challenging me to play because it is something that she can actually beat me at on a regular basis.
jmallory 01-10-08, 02:13 PM I doubt there is a demo for a game that requires 3-4 peripherals.
My understanding is that you can use a regular controller as well...
Munford 01-10-08, 02:18 PM Rockband, Guitar Hero or NHL 2008. My wife likes all of those.
Broccoli 01-10-08, 04:29 PM the only game I get my wife to play is Rock Band, she likes to play the drums. That's about it.
joeblow 01-10-08, 06:09 PM I guess my wife is weird then... she didn't like Rock Band. I was disappointed, because it was a game we could play together.
Just wait until they release the Celine Dion add on pack!
Just wait until they release the Celine Dion add on pack!
That's only coming out in Canada.
jerrodshook 01-11-08, 11:14 AM That's only coming out in Canada.
Thank God!:)
Dashboard 01-11-08, 01:29 PM HAHAHA, Celine Dion rockband addon... HAHAHAHA.... but i'm sure it would sell!
OceanAve 01-11-08, 01:58 PM Got the 80g PS3 for Christmas. Would like to find a game or two for the wife and I to play together. She isn't into first person shooters and probably wouldn't want to go online with COD4 as a team, though that would be cool.

Maybe you should turn off the PS3 and play some personal games with the wife like
"Pin the Tail on the........"
"Which Hole fits the best"
"How do I look in this dress"
"Shoot on the Wife"
"How many licks does it take........"
"and the best one of them ALL Deliveries to the REAR!" LOL
j/k man
Partagas 01-11-08, 03:36 PM I should have thought about all the smart a$$ comments ahead of time. Yeah I've got plenty of those games to play but what do you do with the other 23hr and 57 min of the day?:):D
JohnJake 01-12-08, 10:06 PM My wife and whole family (two girls no less) all love playing Virtual Fighter 5. It's a great game because even if you have no idea how to play, you can just mash buttons and get your character to do great, crazy stuff. It can be hilarious and incrediably fun for the whole family.
Thank you, Captain Grammar. :rolleyes:Actually, that's Colonel Grammar.
docprego 01-12-08, 10:52 PM I was shocked when my wife asked me for GH3 for Xmas, she NEVER plays video games. I had a choice, get it for the Wii upstairs or for my PS3 in the HT. I decided to get it for the Wii figuring I did not want my projector occupied when I might want to use it for something else. Not having played GH3 myself I had no idea what I was getting involved with. I am now addicted to the Wii edition and will be getting the PS3 version soon in my HT. Then it's on to Rock Band which I have also never tried, but I am sure to be addicted to.
My wife saw the video of PAIN and thought video games were even more demented than ever before.
If I suggest something line High Velocity Bowling, she says "why don't we just GO bowling???"
The only thing she's ever played on a modern system is classic pacman. She had troubles though because it was confusing moving the stick with her right hand.
She had troubles though because it was confusing moving the stick with her right hand.
My wife said the same. Wait a min... :p
superrober 01-14-08, 08:51 AM Why dont you show her Oblivion or COD4. My wife loves both. I made a character look exactly like my wife
