John Stockton 07-10-08, 06:18 PM Have you read the FAQ in my signature? I wouldn't buy another DLP that has a bulb or spinning colorwheel. I think the price difference for the LED set is far worth it to get rid of these.
Thanks Mike. After reading your FAQ they only things that would bother me are:
# spinning color wheel, so noisier TV (color wheels spin fast and can sometimes have a high pitch whine)
# More chance of seeing rainbows.
I don't mean to drag on but do you happen to know how severe these problems are with the new 510 model??
Also do you know approx how often do the bulb(s) need changing under normal use(4-6 hours a day)???
Wildfrog 07-10-08, 07:08 PM Fry's in DFW has the 67a750 listed for $1799 in their ad today (this may also apply to other Fry's..check your local newspaper's ad)
Pretty good deal for those that don't like buying big ticket items online

I just checked this out as I am in the Dallas area. It is a misprint. It says 67 but the sku is for the 61 inch. Man I was on my way out the door. Got to be fast. This morning I was looking at Vanns 1999 free delivery. Could get a harmony remote for 49 bucks more. Went to a movie, wanted to check out the site first. Got home 3 hours later, it went up a 100 bucks. Sigh. Now amazon is 2049. For that price this morning would have included a harmony. And Frys has had the 67A750 for 1999, but lately its been 2099. When it was 1999 I was moving, and thought I would wait till the move was over. Aggravating, but a 67A750 is in my future. Still not sure about ordering online. Hows the consensus on Big River for problem free deliveries?
Rakesh.S 07-11-08, 01:22 AM i just checked the web site and they dont even have the 67a750 at all and the 61a750 is showing at 2099.
I would love to know if that price is good in ATL cause I would march right down to Best Buy and get a price match and leave with 200 bucks!
Look on the atlanta newspaper's website for fry's ads..
NDRugby 07-11-08, 07:22 AM Got an HL72A650. Thought I'd share my thoughts with all of you:
1) WOW! The PQ is amazing. I didn't know if there would be any change in PQ as the TV got to this size vs the 50A650 I already have.
2) The cabinet on the 72 is definitely sturdier than the 50A650. You can still bend it a bit, but not as easily as the 50.
3) I got one with nearly perfect geometry.
4) I haven't had it long yet, but I have not run into any issues with it. I have all sources connected to a Denon 3808 and then to the TV over HDMI. I will see if there is a difference in the upscaler of the TV vs the receiver and try to post it back here if I get a chance.
5) Great Price for a Great TV! If you live in NJ, you can go to Electronics Expo and ask them to match their website price (currently $2019.88), they guy also matched the lowest price I could find on the mack warranty combo, and their low website price on a Harmony 880. They will have to bring the TV from their warehouse. I ordered mine on Sunday, it was in store on Wednesday. The price had dropped $90, and they price adjusted for me.
6) Viewing angle is really good. I have this in a basement, and off to the side of the viewing area is a workout area. I can see the image beautifully from my treadmill, so vertical and horizontal viewing angles are good.
I highly recommend this TV if you want BIG. Sitting 8-10' away seems to be optimal, at least to me. This thing is huge (but I still wish they had an 80!). I looked at the Mitsubishis vs the Sammy, and I didn't see a significant difference in PQ, plus you can't beat the price.

just walk in to best buy and tell em you want a 67a750 for 1999. thats what i did and it WORKED. if it doesnt work at one best buy try another, or a circuit city. at least with brick and mortar you can bring it back if the issues are too much too many. again . I DID

I did the exact same thing, although it didn't work at the first Best Buy, so I had to go to another one. All I did was say that Amazon.com had it for $1999; the guy went back to talk with his manager, and then said he could match that. He didn't even ask to see proof of the $1999 price (although I did bring it, and you should too, just in case).
I think I got a nearly perfect set, but with the geometry issues people have been talking about, it's definitely worth it to go with a brick and mortar, in my opinion. I believe they are all willing to come to your house and bring you a new TV, letting you swap as many times as you want until you are happy with the unit you get.
as i am looking at the 67.. i was feeling some sales people out and they said they will not match a internet site like amazon.. only circuity city which has it for 2250 currently
After about a week having the HL61A750, I'm becoming a believer.
I finally got the DVD component connection fixed. Weasel was right. Thanks for the shout out.
The picture is very nice. even the PC connection looks better than it did before after some tweaking.
Obviously the viewing angle still makes parts of the screen not as sharp but only if I could buy a stand (I already have a built in cabinet in the wall which I can't just rip off)
Also, does anyone else have this dim light shining through the middle of the screen when the TV is turned off and when it's displaying a dark scene.
Is that normal or is that a defect?
I'm pretty happy with the set so far minus some minor flaws.

There is a sheet that comes with every Samsung TV that explains that this light in the center of the screen is from exterior light. I have seen only a few posts about it, and the one way I can get it to happen on my TV is to have the ceiling fan lights on.. If you redirect your lighting away from the screen, you should get rid of that reflection. I am assuming it is an internal reflection from the mirror or the optics..
Random thought, I wonder if all the external light that hits the screen gets focused into the projector lens assembly to create this effect..

Go back into BB and ask them to match, if they don't, buy the TV.
Set up a deliver date for a week out. Go back to BB in a few days and ask them to match again, if they say know, tell them that you will take delivery of their TV. Then tell them once you take delivery of their set, you will order one from Amazon, and once that one is delivered, they can come out and pick theirs up.
Some might think this is not the right thing to do, but what is wrong with negotiating from a position of power?
FronzDan 07-12-08, 11:51 PM Hi, I just had my 67A750 delivered a couple days ago. There was initially a little bit of a geometry problem, but I pushed a little on one corner of the cabinet and it's spot on now. I really like the set, however I am noticing a problem. I believe it would be called green push? There's like a greenish tint on certain things. It appears in SD and HD and from channels from cable using the built in tuner and 480P DVD/component input. Generally the picture looks good, especially HD and bright scenes. But darker scenes and stuff that should normally look sort of grayish or just dim, looks green. It's like watching the Matrix where everything besides the actors is greenish. And if there is something that's supposed to be green...it's too green (grass on a baseball field is like this). I've adjusted the tint towards red and it helps a little, but I don't really want to up the red..just lower the green. I thought white balance might help, and it ALMOST does...but that control doesn't even seem to work. I adjust it and the picture changes for like a second, then changes back to the way it was...like there's some kind of auto override. I can slide the thing from one end to the other and no matter where it stops, the picture stays the same. Is everyone else's white balance control like this? It came with the newer firmware and I downgraded it to the latest on the Sammy site. That didn't fix anything, including the white balance control problem.
It's driving me crazy and it's so noticeable to me now, I'm thinking of returning it. I really don't want to because other than this, I like the set. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I know there's a chance I can have an expert calibrate it out....but that just doesn't seem right that I'd have to spend an extra couple hundred bucks to get a non-greenish picture on a brand new set. Is there something in the service menu that I can do to lower the green? I'd appreciate any help please!

yankeeman 07-13-08, 07:03 AM I am going to buy a 61" real soon, and would like to know for low techies like me, to change firmware, can you get a cd from Samsung or do you HAVE to burn your own cd from their website. I look in the manual of a 32" Sammy that i just bought, and the way it says to download (settings, speed, etc.)the firmware to cd is stuff i dont know about.
How do you even know when you need different firmware?

I noticed this as well at first.... I am not sure why, but I am not noticing it as much anymore.. I have noticed that some programs on TV seem to have a greenish tint to them - and I thought that it WAS my TV, but after seeing the same show (Numbers) on my friends TV (different brand and LCD) I noticed that the greenish tint was in his set as well. Now there are movies that I have seen on TV - last night or the night before they had Too Fast Too Furious playing on a network channel, and there was no greenish Tint - it actually looked REALLY good... What I think is happening is that these TV's actually display the colors accurately without a lot of processing.. Kind of akin to a very good loudspeaker showing the weakness of certain sound materials/recordings.. If it is bad, you are going to see it with these sets - but if it's good.. Just give it a while, you will get used to it. I don't know about you, but I bought my bigscreen to watch movies with - and when it comes to that, so far I haven't seen a TV come close to the "film" look these TV's can reproduce.
harleyfatboy 07-13-08, 12:07 PM Costco has the 67a650 for $1999 and with a $200 off coupon starting next week so final price is $1799 with stand. I am assuming this is a good deal?

It is actually the HL67A510 (C) model. I have started a thread here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1048571
FronzDan 07-13-08, 12:13 PM Hey cadiman, thanks for the info. That's so funny, I was watching the EXACT same shows you mentioned the other night and had the same impressions. Numbers seems to already have a greenish tint to it maybe, I agree. Perhaps it just has a Matrix-y look to it all the time, I never watch it. And the Too Fast/Furious HD broadcast did look EXTREMELY good with no hint of the tint.
I ventured into the calibration menus last night and looked at the green-x and green-y values. I have no idea what these are....maybe someone here can help? But the green values are way higher than the others by default. I noted the default values and changed them to something lower and it really made a difference. Even DVDs don't have that look anymore. Maybe I should get a pro to cal this thing.
harleyfatboy 07-13-08, 12:21 PM Ok thanks for the clarification on the Samsung at Costco..sorry about that...

Jensman 07-14-08, 12:53 PM I'm having trouble downloading firmware updates to my 67A750.
Samsung sent me a flashdrive with the latest firmware on it, but when I put it in the TV and hit SW Upgrade it said there wasn't anything on it. I called Samsung and they sent me another one and the same thing happened.
Is there something I'm missing here, do I need to do something more to the flash drive before trying it on the TV.
I've downloaded firmware to my PS3 with a flashdrive with no problems, but I can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.

You can get 10% coupons from Bestbuy off ebay for only $1 to $2. That would take the price down to $2025. You can also get an 8% coupon for Circuit City from AAA.
I used a 12% off coupon on mine at BB when it was $2350 which took it down to $2068. I'm not sure if it's worth it for me to try and have them go down another $43. I guess it depends on how the set looks when I get it delivered this weekend.

Well you can be a dick with 300 dollars in your pocket. Or just order from Amazon and roll the dice on having to send it back. Good luck.
When I bought mine from BB they did match the online price.

I can't get my Direct TV HR21 remote to accept a code for volume control for the 67A750. I can get the power to turn on or off but volume doesn't work. Has anyone successfully completed this task? A similar question was asked a month ago but I could not find an answer. There must be someone who has figured out how to do this.

slamduncan 07-15-08, 09:25 AM The Costco in Toronto now has the 61 inch with a $200.00 off coupon which brings it from 1999.00 to 1799.00.
Interesting that they don't have the 67A750 or the xxx510 or whatever the coupon is for in the US.
Toasterdude 07-17-08, 12:00 AM Hey Guys,
Need a bit of help. I'm located in Canada where the only way to see one of these TV's (in my location) is to order it. I'm convinced just with the pics that pple have posted. My question is this... is there a huge difference between the 61 vs 67 in terms of PQ? What I'm really looking for is a "home theater" effect... will the 61 give this to me?
Is it worth it to spend 400 bucks on the extended warranty?
Thanks in advanced!
davegow 07-17-08, 07:51 AM ... is there a huge difference between the 61 vs 67 in terms of PQ? What I'm really looking for is a "home theater" effect... will the 61 give this to me?...is it worth it to spend 400 bucks on the extended warranty?...
Depends on your viewing distance and type of signal. If you watch a good HD input (Bluray, good satellite or cable) you should be able to sit as close as twice the screen size without seeing signal noise or individual pixels. That should maximize your theatre effect, although some on this forum say they sit closer than that ratio. Note that this assumes normal eyesight and the distance is measured from your eyes to the screen.
With the 61 inch that's 10 feet. If you want to sit further back you would probably prefer the bigger set to get an immersive experience. Note also that with that distance, SD input will look grainy.
As to an extended warranty, personally I agree with the major consumer organizations that those things are a ripoff, but some people say it makes them feel more secure, and it's their money.

It sounds like you're doing everything right, so let's verify the basics:
What is the firmware version number currently installed in your 67, and what is the firmware version number you're trying to install from the flashdrive?
Have you plugged the flashdrive into your computer to see what's on it?
derailed 07-17-08, 03:50 PM I just got the 61A750 yesterday to replace my 4 year old Mits DLP and its like getting kicked in the face with light. I was pretty surprised at how bright this set is. And the color makes my old set look very bland.
However, I do have a couple of issues. It appears my set has the buzzing psu/led engine problem. Yes, it's particularly bad on dynamic but it's also present, to a lesser extent, on standard mode. Its volume seems to be related to the LED brightness setting. I plan to do something about it but I wanted to know if I will always hear a buzz at some level or if a proper unit will be completely silent. Considering the tilt/geometry of the set are pretty good, would I be better off exchanging the set or calling for a Samsung tech?
Also, for those of you with PS3s, is there typically any banding on the Folding-at-Home globe animation? I still see some after using mike-pro's faq (RGB: Full, HDMI Black: Normal). The only other place I've seen it is in MGS4, but it has pretty much vanished since I've mucked with those settings.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

The only reason I didn't download it myself is that we still have dial-up and it takes hours. I finally called Samsung and had them E-mail me the firmware version they said would fix the random turning itself off then right back on
problem I was having. I then E-mailed it to someone I knew with High Speed, deleted whatever it was Samsung sent me on the flash drive, and went to their house and downloaded it myself to the flash drive, then came home and downloaded to the TV. It worked like it was supposed to, I don't know what Samsung was sending me, but it sure wouldn't work the way they were doing it.
My TV came with 1006.1 on it and they sent me 1004. I don't know why the version seems to be an older one, but I've had no more shut offs.
danondorf 07-17-08, 10:47 PM I just bought my HL61A750.
Smash Bros. Brawl looks amazing on it, and that's only 480P!
I have PS3 on the way to me with HDMI and Reservoir Dogs on Blu-Ray can't wait!
Got my TV at CC for $1849
24 Months no interest. So, so happy.
danondorf 07-17-08, 11:01 PM Oh, as far as RBE is concerned.
I am incredibly sensitive to the rainbow effect; I had purchased a 50 inch 1080P DLP Samsung last year and had to take it back because I got a migraine after watching Superbad on it.
I prayed for this LED TV to eliminate the problem and I would say about 90 percent of RBE is gone now, I can still barely barely see it but only if I look for it. It's not a problem at all.
why did you people go with a DLP projection... why not LCD... i am curious for personal opinons/reasons... Aug 9th is the day i choose and i am looking at the 67 but i think the picture of a LCD is better but i like the size of the 67.. hmm
Brian1313 07-18-08, 03:28 AM I like DLPs over LCDs because I need a larger screen to enjoy a TV, and the larger LCDs are way too expensive for me. Also, the issues of motion blur and burn-in are non issues with the new DLP sets, whereas they could become a big problem on certain models of LCD sets. I know that LCDs have the 120hz and Auto Motion now, but that can sometimes create motion artififacts and give the show what many consider to be an artifical look.
From what I have seen, LCDs probably have the advantage in terms of raw picture sharpness and contrast ratio, as well as a slightly better viewing angle. However, LCDs are certainly not problem-free TVs, and can come with their own issues. I made a blanket statement on here in which I proclaimed the crappiness of Samsung TVs in general, and I was rightly called out on it. LCD may be the right TV for you, but as I said earlier, they are not perfect sets.
I think that choosing a type of TV is so much a personal choice, and for me, the size that I require, the price that I was comfortable paying for a new television, and the picture quality that meets my expectations, the DLP was the way to go, and I finally pulled the trigger on a new Samsung 67a750, which will arrive Tuesday. Here's hoping everything is good!

The only LCD set I would consider for my main viewing area would be the Samsung 70" LCD with LED backlighting. It's supposed to produce an excellent picture with great black levels. But it costs over $30K:eek: More than 15 times as much as the 67 inch RP LED set.
Sgooter 07-18-08, 11:36 AM why did you people go with a DLP projection... why not LCD... i am curious for personal opinons/reasons... Aug 9th is the day i choose and i am looking at the 67 but i think the picture of a LCD is better but i like the size of the 67.. hmm
- I went with Samsung's LED DLP over LCD and plasma because it's the absolute best value per inch of screen size, has outstanding PQ, far less power consumption, zero motion blur, and cabinet depth was not an issue for my HT room. I was initially concerned about off-axis drop-off of picture brightness, but it turned out to be a non-factor in my HT room.
- If not DLP, then I would opt for plasma over LCD. The LCD mounted in my kitchen has a 5ms referesh rate, but the motion blur is still painfully obvious to my eyes when watching fast action movies and sports (e.g. tennis ball). I previously owned a high-end plasma...superb PQ, but a real power hog.
- If your room set up can take the Samsung 67" LED DLP, then jump on it!
Colo232 07-18-08, 12:05 PM Hello guy,
I'm about to jump and buy the HL-61A750 this afternoon. I will read all the pages on this thread once delivered, but for know…
Is there anything I should be looking upon delivery?
And most importantly…
Do you recommend this set?
Thanks & Regards

KneeDeep 07-18-08, 05:00 PM Well, don't let the low post count and date fool you.
I've been sittin for a long time.(4 years)
Finnally pulled the trigger on the HL-67A750 LED,(and a 3808ci,Def Tech. speakers)
And I have to say,I'm pleasantly surprised on the vid quality OOTB.

sunwaterpool 07-18-08, 05:33 PM Hey cadiman, thanks for the info.
Would this help for blue, every set I have seen the whites have a blue to them and nobody in the store could get white to just look white.

According to the Samsung Canada website, it's as follows:
Package size(WXHXD) 1523 x 1083 x 512 mm or 60 by 42.6 by 20.2 inches. Too high for my Grand Caravan as I recall, but it could be laid on its side, which is not ideal but lots of people do it.
Any one know where the HL 61A750A1F can be purchased in the Toronto Canada area?

moonhawk 07-20-08, 03:20 PM I finally bit the bullet and bought the HL67A750 yesterday, and managed to get it home in one piece after a few adventures with the weather.
Got tired of waiting to see if the mythical laservues were all that, and were even remotely affordable.
Initial impressions are very good with none of the issues mentioned by others so far.
I'll continue to monitor this thread, but will post only on the owners thread, at least as far as my own set goes. Thanks to all the great contributors to this thread. :)
Hawk521 07-20-08, 05:19 PM My HL67A750 arrived intact from Vanns a couple of weeks ago. Setup was simple enough. I purchased an Init 63" wide TV stand at the local Best Buy. It matches the TV perfectly and is a heavy duty stand. I've made a few slight tweaks to contrast and brightness, but usually come back close to the default settings.
I called Time Warner Cable and upgraded my subscription to digital and received a free SA8300HD DVR. The "contractor" that setup the digital and installed the HD DVR didn't do me any favors. He left here with the DVR connected to my TV via RF cable and the TV set to channel 3. I called TW to complain that it wasn't setup correctly and they had a real technician onsite the next morning. He got me setup MUCH better and even installed a small cable amplifier to replace the 4-way splitter where my cable service branched out to several rooms. The difference in picture quality was astounding. And I was suddenly getting digital channels that before had evaded detection. Even the analog channels are extremely clear and enjoyable with this new setup.
The HL67A750 picture has been spectacular to say the least. No problems. I had been hesitant to purchase over the internet, but I will say that the experience was great. I only spoke once with the folks at Vanns - but they were reassuring and I will say that they did a great job. A huge Yellow Freight tractor trailer rolled up to my home days after my order. The driver was very helpful unloading the TV. To my satisfaction the box had not a single mark or dent on it.
I connected my ReplayTV for analog recording/playback (hey, its paid for) and now I have two more HD channels I can record via the SA8300HD. Life is good. TV viewing has never been better.
My next goal is a Blu-Ray DVD player and/or a simple home theater audio system of some time. Is PS3 the preferred choice?
And are any of the "front speaker only" home theater systems worthy of a close look? My viewing room isn't well suited for rear and/or side speaker mounting but I will eventually want to bring the audio quality up to a level suitable for this great picture quality.

If your looking into getting a Blu-Ray Player I would sugest the PS3. For me I liked the idea of having an all in one system. (Plays PS1 and PS2 games, CDs DVDs and BDs)
Its also nice to have any BD updates go through Wi-FI, and is BD live enabled.
MichaelMi 07-20-08, 09:32 PM Hey all. new to the forum.
I purchased the HL61A750A1F in early June... EXCELLENT UNIT !!
I found the user manual on the Samsung site (had 95% of it figured out) but I cannot find any information on how to program the "universal" remote -- I have a DirecTv box and an up-convert DVD player that I want to control ... I have the codes but need to know how to enter them. Remote unit is a Samsung BN59-00673A.
Thx.
Happy Viewing.

It is worth noting that, at least intially, the 40 GB PS3 did not have any backwards compatibility with PS1 games, and it is very limited on PS2 games. I know this because it is stated right on the box. I don't know whether later runs of the 40GB system were enabled to play the older games. Can anyone here answer this, or confirm that the 80GB PS3 plays the older stuff?
Also, I agree that the PS3 is the way to go for Blu-Ray. It is a great value when compared with stand alone players because you get a high-quality Blu-Ray player as well as a pretty decent gaming system for about the same price as the player alone.

I just bought a PS3 in May, 40gb.. and it will not play ps2 games. There aren't any ps2 games that I'd want to go back and play, to be honest.
Brian1313 07-21-08, 09:51 AM Hey. Is anyone that owns the 67A750 still having any problems with reflections on the top black bar in letterboxed movies when something bright is at the top of the screen. Yes, this issue does exist. I am under the impression that it is not a "problem" and moreso just how the technology works

I notice it only if I am looking for it.. It is NO WHERE near as bad as the halo issues you see with last generations sets (I had one and it sucked!). I really don't notice it at all.. only when I am REALLY looking for it..
cadiman26 07-21-08, 10:31 AM why did you people go with a DLP projection... why not LCD... i am curious for personal opinons/reasons... Aug 9th is the day i choose and i am looking at the 67 but i think the picture of a LCD is better but i like the size of the 67.. hmm
There were a few reasons for me.. First LCD/Plasma is expensive, second is picture quality in my opinion looks neon like on LCD's, third is purer color from an LED chipset (that won't fade overtime). I also don't see any real reason for a flat screen, I know they are trendy but I have a spot dedicated for a TV set because my house is big enough.. Finally two other reasons some may find trivial... Power draw - a 52" LCD TV = 326w power, a 58" Plasma = 538 watts power (745 watts max), finally 67inch Samsung LED 150 watts/200 watts max.. You tell me what is going to cost more watching? I live in Phoenix, and anything that generates heat will make it that much more difficult to keep your room temp down.. Just for fun - the first generation PS3's sucked 200 watts or more out of your wall socket!! And the final reason which I place above all is that I love the way projection TV looks and the technology is fascinating to me.. :) I have not had one person come to my house and not make a comment on how nice the picture on my TV looks.. Actually a few comments that I have heard is that it doesn't look blocky like LCD/Plasmas look.. It looks more filmlike..

I second all of these reasons. I would probably NEVER buy an LCD to be honest with you. They still can't handle motion well and the "fix" for that is the 120hz motion gimmick stuff which introduces a very NOT film-like quality to motion. Also, the contrast levels (and black level) do not seem to be able to compete.
I WOULD on the other hand, consider Plasma. I don't know if I can really come up with a downside to plasma except for maybe a glossier screen? If I didn't have to worry about money I probably would have bought a 60inch Pioneer KURO.
Both plasma and LCD are VERY expensive at big sizes and consume SO much more power and produce much more heat. I think that LED DLP should be an obvious choice for people who have to consider money issues (and have done research)

If the reflection is there it can't be very bad because I have never noticed it.

Yeah, I never noticed mine until was specifically looking for them. I only see it on the top bar and only scenes that are very bright along the top. Not a big deal in my opinion

ckaekel 07-21-08, 06:18 PM Hi,
I am experiencing a color alignment or convergence problem with my new HL61A750. Whenever any white text (for example) is displayed the Red Blue and Green images don't overlap exactly so everything has a red top and a blue bottom. Actually anything with a sharp edge of any color shows this effect.
I have an older Samsung DLP HDTV and it doesn't exhibit this problem so it's got to be a problem with this set. I tried searching this forum but haven't found any posts on this topic.
The set works beautifully otherwise.
I am driving the set from a DirectTV HD receiver and using HDMI.
Any advice/links would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

MichaelMi 07-21-08, 07:34 PM power draw, clarity, color, heat, many LCD colors end up looking neon, no true black, the weight, , and the price - I got WAY more than I would have for the same $ amount with LCD or plasma... but it's not just DLP that drew me ... it LED driven DLP - the LED will never need to be replaced unless a system board drops offline (extended warranty service plan) - ive had alot of ppl over since my urchse and I have not yet heard a single comment on motion blur, clarity, color.

joey791 07-21-08, 11:51 PM You can get 10% coupons from Bestbuy off ebay for only $1 to $2.
Heres a 10% for free

Lou Sytsma 07-22-08, 12:50 PM So my HLT-5689S did have the dreaded Halo problem and the end result is that Samsung is refunding my money. I'm still partial to the DLP LED tech and from what everyone is posting here it seems that the issues with the first gen sets have been addressed.
Any previous first gen LED DLP owners regret dipping into the pool with this year's line? Beyond the upper area reflection for letterboxing my take on the posts here is that these sets have pretty eliminated the more troubling issues like halos etc.
Just looking for some reassurance I guess.
unfrostedpoptart 07-22-08, 01:18 PM Dumb move. Frankly, they should of dropped lamp based on all but the 50" in spite of the fact the LED sets are more $$.

Rakesh.S 07-22-08, 03:41 PM The IR sensor for the television is located in or around the power button (where the blue led lights up when you turn it on)....if you want to verify, just put an object in front of it and try to turn the tv on.

you might laugh at me for saying this, but its not THAT crazy to consider buying an HD-DVD player (or better yet, the add-on if you happen to have a 360) right now, and get a ton of movies for generally very good deals. Almost every re-release (movies coming to bluray now that were only HD before) has been the same exact video and audio transfers and generally the same extras ported over from the HD DVD version.
I was already invested in HD DVD (had the 360 add-on and about 35 movies) when it died, and went ahead and purchased a real player (HD-A35) and continue to buy HD DVD's at good prices. Just a thought... :-)

it's the LED engine that is causing this. they seem hit or miss, my first engine was terrible, they replaced it, much much better. wasn't perfect, came out again, replaced it again, was worse than the second engine, so they put the 2nd one back in, and they are coming out again. i'm going to have them replace it over and over until it's perfect

eatatjoesdiner 07-24-08, 01:43 PM So, I went by BB yesterday (again) to compare the 67" LED DLP to the various plasma offerings. I have been on fence for quite a while and still worry about viewing angles on the DLP once I get the set home. This set is for a bonus room, and would be used for gaming by the kids (and me), as well as regular TV and some movies for the kids. Lots of light during the daytime, and the seating arrangement is not very static (Couch and chairs tend to move around...or the pillows all end up on the floor. If I end up purchasing the DLP I would probably make my own shelves and a stand from MDF so that I could get it really low (for the kids on the floor) as I haven't really seen any that get the set that low.
So, I am wondering, of those of you who use their set in this way (kids on the couch, stuffed chairs on the sides, or on the floor in front) how happy have you been with the DLP? From reading these forum threads, I know I'm not the only one out here struggling with the issue of PLASMA VS. DLP.
Thanks

If seating isn't very static, and sometimes might be on the ground and standing, etc... The DLP will not produce a consistent picture. You will always be able to see the pic; it will just get dimmer if not at a direct vertical angle (and not as pretty in general). The vertical angle seems to be the big concern in my eyes, horizontal angle not too bad unless you have a VERY wide room. If this is is mainly for kids and/or goofing around maybe it wont matter to you (the picture will never be unwatchable/unplayable) but if it was the main movie environment I would probably consider the plasma myself.
Although I do love this tv :-)
finsmaniac02 07-24-08, 03:55 PM Well, has you TV outlasted them all at least?
LOL, nope. Had a 30inch sammy crt HDTV (of which the PQ was PHENOMENAL would love to see bluray on that badboy) that broke twice and I exchanged for a 46 inch DLP sammy (and played diff). That DLP would have lasted though, just bought the new 61 incher and sold the 46 inch. I have VERY bad luck with electronics. Although I don't suppose we need to overflow this message board even more lol
cadiman26 07-24-08, 05:11 PM LOL, nope. Just a curiousity type of question.. where do you live? Is it humid there? What do you keep your house temp at?
cadiman26 07-24-08, 05:16 PM If seating isn't very static, and sometimes might be on the ground and standing, etc...
Yeah, the viewing angle is the one drawback on this/any rear screen projection TV.. It's the nature of the beast.. I do watch my TV from an extreme viewing angle in the dining room next to the living room, but can still see what I am watching ok. You cannot watch this TV from the floor closer than 5 feet away from the TV - the light does fall off severely at a floor angle.. But sitting on the floor in front of the couch it is okay.
KneeDeep 07-25-08, 05:44 AM One of the first things I noticed, was that the Viewing angle, which we all know, isnt as good as other technologies, was better than I expected.
Even vertically.
But its not a plasma, but with the heat, energy and other issues, this set is more than decent for the money.
I'll see what a calibration does,although I like the popping colors : )

I live in Columbus, OH. weather is unpredictable and humidity is pretty high in the summer, but I keep my living conditions pretty normal. 70-75 degrees and i don't think too humid (although I don't have a dehumidifier or anything so I am not judging this off of something quantifiable). I don't think the humidity or temp should be a factor in my luck but who knows.
Case in point: I actually ordered a 2007 LED model and it was delivered with a big crack down it; they exchanged but didn't have an 07 models left so I got this 08 model for same cost. That shows my badluck pretty well (although it obviously worked out because I got a killer deal on the 08 model (61A750)

jcampanella 07-25-08, 01:02 PM Howdy,
I am trying to design a stand for the 67A750 and I need to know where the IR port is. Also, I plan on having the center channel sitting on the table top in front of the 67A750. Does anyone see an issue with this setup?
thx,
Mike
The IR is around the blue lit up power button. If you have your center channel speaker centered in front of the button the remote will not work. I had to slide my center channel off to the side a little bit.

Yeah...from what I've seen, I really like this TV too: price /sq.in., bright, PQ, low power usage, good technology, all of which are very good. My goal, if I get one, will be to get it as close to the ground as reasonably possible, with just enough room to put a single row of electronics underneath...and center channel mounted above...so that viewing from the floor is possible. I am going with either a pio or panny plasma for our other (regular) set..so I was hoping that I could get something big for the bonus room for games and general kid TV. I probably shouldn't care so much since it will not be our primary set (lol the kids have it way better than I ever did)...but I was surprised at BB by how narrow the optimal PQ (perhaps only brightness..but my sense was that it was overall PQ) in the vertical dimension is. Just a few degrees north or south of that optimal zone in the center, then PQ really suffers. Maybe having some way to tilt the set forward and back a few degrees would help. (it's really really big though).

Hmmm. I must have gotten lucky with my 67 incher, because I sometimes lay down to watch TV, and my eyes are about level with the bottom of the screen, and there is no compromise in brightness or pic quality at all. The standing vertical angle seems somewhat poor, but I don't stand to watch TV. It just doesn't seem like my eyes have to be level with the center of the screen to get the best pic. Maybe it is because I am only about 7.5 to 8 feet away.

That is very close for a 67" display. You must feel like you are in the movie.

I'm used to a big screen so anything smaller and I wouldn't be satisfied. IMO, the pic on this TV is so good that I don't see barely any pixel structure even though I am so close. Besides, if it gets too bright, I'll just watch it like this......
joey791 07-27-08, 09:11 AM Looked at them again last nite at 2 different Best Buys, at both places the colors were less vivid then all the other tvs and not as bright. I tried adjusting the set but it still came off as very dull compared to others. Now I'm confused almost everyone here says they enjoy their set and its cheaper that the 52" 750 LCD I was looking at put the picture looked like crap on both sets, any input?

All sets at the store have always looked like crap compared to my calibrated displays.

Yeah I know aaron but even trying to adjust the settings it was like half the LEDs had to be blown on both sets the picture was so dark.

Dude, bring one home and try it...you won't learn ANYTHING looking in the store.
I have a large room with 11 windows, and this thing will burn your eyeballs out. And I have the 67".
To say these things aren't bright enough based on viewing in the store is just plain stupid.

This is what could be referred to as a TV thats more accurate out of the box too.. The other TV's are in torch mode (even these TVs have one - Dynamic), so yes they will look really bright with very bright colors. Watching this TV at home, I don't get a headache.. When I go to a friends house, or a bar or some other place - all I can think about is how I wish I was watching that game or movie on my TV instead.. You really become accustomed to what a TV "Should" look like..

No problem, you're welcome.
This thread is full of "It's too dark in the store" posts , but not one "I took it home and it's too dark."
No owner has complained of this, almost all owners have brightness turned down below 50 out of 100, and yet people keep telling us how dark this set looks in the store. If you're that interested in the set, take one home and try it out. You may have other issues, but trust me, brightness won't be one of them.
The way to get the most out of this forum is to actually read some, if not all, of a thread before posting. Then you would know that this is not a problem for any owners of this set.
Rant off--Sorry if I was a bit harsh.

blogorama 07-27-08, 07:22 PM I'm sure this has been discussed extensively, but I'm curious if someone can point me to a post about someone's impressions with using this set with a HTPC.
My concerns about overscan and clarity in the windows gui are the only things stopping me from purchasing this set. I currently am using an old hitachi 57" crt set, and it is pretty tough to make out anything on a 1080i crt rptv.
blogorama 07-27-08, 07:45 PM I'm also curious whether HTPC users are connecting with VGA or HDMI.

Unfortunately not everyone has an extra 300 dollar restocking fee laying around if they dont like the set, sorry I was harsh too, just a 2000 to 3000 dollar is a big purchase to me

My 67" set is extremely bright. I had to put the LED setting on minimum since it was so bright.

OK, but I don't know anywhere they charge a restocking fee. Almost anyplace, at least here locally, has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.
And I got my place to match Amazon, plus tax, of course.
I self-delivered, but compared to arranging return shipping, this was a no-brainer choice for me. Plus I got a 60 day price match guarantee.
I just don't think you can go wrong, just check policies whether you buy locally or online.
Most folks here who bought from authorized online dealers and had to return, said the process was relatively painless.
Bottom line, there's no way you can really judge any set till you bring it home. Buy the one you want the most, assuming no issues, and choose your merchant carefully.
Good luck. :)

I haven't used it for home theater, but I hook my laptop up to it and set it for full 1080p and use the controls via the tv and computer to set the screen correctly. I have said it in a previous post that when I am sitting on my couch looking at it - it looks like a HUGE computer monitor that I complely enjoy.. and I am using the VGA input.. Looks awesome!

I still need to check mine out. With the new stand I got for my set, it doesn't have room for my HTPC, so I need to figure out where I'm going to put it. I guess I'll hook it up sometime this week to see how it looks. ALthough I don't really use it much anymore except for firmware updates for some of my A/V equipment. SO I really haven't felt a rush to connect it to the tV yet.

Kaga Sakai 07-28-08, 12:24 PM I've had my 56A650 for about two months, and something has really been bugging me the last few days: It appears that along the top quarter of the screen, all the way across, most of the menus or icons have this faint "double image look" to them.

The funny thing is, I remember seeing this almost right away when I first set up the television, but I never gave it much thought until I saw it in one of my Xbox 360 online menus a few nights ago. Now it's driving me crazy. No other section of the screen is affected, just the top quarter. Could it be that it's just the way the mirror is reflecting the light at the top section of the screen? Our couch is about six feet away from the set and under normal use, if I look really hard, I can still make out that it's there, especially on a black screen with icons, but only at the extreme top of the screen. Other than this problem, I love the set and the PQ is awesome.
Have any other XXA650 owners seen this?
johnny betts 07-28-08, 01:44 PM I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the 67". Best Buy has it on sale this week for $2199.99, plus I have a 10% coupon, so that finally gives me the chance to get it at a brick and mortar store for under $2000, pre-tax.
Now comes the next fun part: are there any recommendations for a good Home Theater System to go along with it?
I want to make sure I get one with enough inputs, but I don't want to spend tons of money. I'm guessing I need something a little higher-scale than the Samsung HT-Z310? I like the $229 price tag, but I'm not so sure about the 1 optical digital audio input and 2 stereo audio inputs.
Does the TV itself do a good job of upconverting DVDs? If so then I can just use my 360as a DVD player and not worry about getting a HTS that has an upconverting DVD player.
Thanks for your help.

I have a VERY expensive Denon DVD 5910 and with my one brief and unscientific test I could really tell no discernable difference between the 67" Sammy and the 5910 as far as scaling goes. Fine tuning things more may change that, but for now, that's my initial impression.
I'm waiting for Denon to come out with the BD replacement for the same model, but I don't think anyone should worry about the quality of upconverting with the Sammys.
Hope that answers your questions.

If you go to your primary seating position, you won't see it.. There is a fresnel lense behind the screen you see the image in, it produces this ghost when you are certain angles.. It is normal for this technology.. it disappears for me when I am sitting on the couch..

Actually it's about 6.5 feet.. On their website it gives the formula your screens inches divided by I believe it's .84.. That gives you inches from the screen.. For the 61 inch it's about 6 feet..

well you know what? I had the same idea you did... finally got up the nerve to pull the trigger... drove an hour to my nearest BB, coupon in hand.. walk in and the salesman tells me it's one or the other... coupon or sales price. He showed me on the coupon and it does actually say "coupon discount off of retail price".. maybe some of you have got them to give you both, but I sure couldn't. Also, in store they would only give me 24 months no interest.. as opposed to the 36 the website claims. I was in a foul mood already because a big storm had just hit and I wasn't going to be able to haul it home anyway, so I was going to have to go home and come all the way back or pay for them to deliver it (thus, to me, negating the idea of getting it from brick and mortar).. so I just told the guy "whatever" and walked away. At this point I'll prolly just order online and hope for minimal bowing.
The model on the floor did look fantastic, though.... this tv is gorgeous.
Hope you have better luck, friend. ;)

The only thing that bothers me is that when I'm in seating position, I can sometimes still see it. It's not nearly as bad as when the screen is right in your face, but it's still visible. Would seating height also be a factor? Our couch isn't super high off the ground.
Bottom line, if this isn't some sort of freak defect and most sets of this kind show the reflection, I will have to try not to worry about it.
aaronwt 07-28-08, 10:41 PM I was going through some test patterns and I just realized the right 25% of my screen is not as focused as the rest. And the upper right quandrant is the worst.
Has anyone else noticed this before and is it adjustable?

>grin< I am sorta wierd though, I think that it's cool having a TV that projects an image.. I don't notice it when I am engrossed in a good movie (not that BluRay has many available yet).
To the guy asking about focus.. My last TV 5087s had this problem as well on the lower right quarter.. Optics alignment or lens defect is all I can think of.. My new 750 does not have this problem and in fact is sharper then the 50 inch!! I also noticed that was where the worst of the chromatic abbrasion (lens issues) took place (some people think its convergence but its not possible on a single chip DLP set)..

Misery loves company. My plan was to go to Best Buy tomorrow. When I got home last night I fished my coupon out so I could be nice and organized. But then I noticed the "off of retail price" fine print, and my heart sank. I was going to give them a call and ask for verification, but I fear I'll have the same result as you did.
I might as well take my chances with an online order as well. The $500 I save will go a long way toward the stand and HTS I also need to purchase and will help me feel better about any bowing that occurs.

I was going through some test patterns and I just realized the right 25% of my screen is not as focused as the rest. And the upper right quandrant is the worst.
Has anyone else noticed this before and is it adjustable?
I had the same issue...and the most horrible time with Samsung Warranty and the tech from the local repair shop. The tech tried all the adjustments - physical and through the service menu. It was interesting he said, that the DMD board needed to be changed, but that wouldnt fix the problem. He went on to say that the entire light engine needed to be changed... and it wasnt clear that even that would fix the problem.
I also saw a notable red and green (or was it blue?) bleeding out of horizontal and vertical white lines (like in a test pattern).
To me, it seemed like the focal plane was off, and when the tech adjusted the focus (on the light engine/projector?), he could get the top left to focus well, or the bottom right to focus well, but not both at the same time.
(And nothing was done for over a month! I finally called Amazon, and they simply replaced the TV (even though it was a tad over 30 days!) Thats customer service for you - Thanks Amazon!!)
I hope your experience is better - all the best.
phenomf4 07-29-08, 07:42 PM I put myself through the same misery that you guys are inflicting on yourselves at this very moment. "I'm gonna wait for the price to drop." "I'm gonna wait and see what Mitsubishi will price their laservue sets at." I'd still be sitting in front of my computer monitor hitting refresh every five minutes if I didn't come to this conclusion: the price isn't going to get lower anytime soon, and I'm talking about Big River (BR). BstBy will never be as low as BR, not even with your silly coupons. I was able to get BstBy to price match BR but I was still going to have to pay shipping and taxes and I'd get it in about the same time. So I decided to just do it and ordered one from BR. It was out of stock but I only had to wait a few days for it to be in stock. It then only took 4 days from being in stock to getting it setup in my apartment.
If there happens to be anything wrong with it then call up BR tell them to send you a new one and when that arrives swap out the bad one and you never had to live without one. Got it? Good.
p.s. Look into getting a mack warranty. $161 3yr for my 67" and I've got nothing to worry about for a long time.
you know you also got a 60 day price match from circuit city or best buy or stores like that, so wait a while and then buy but u got 60 days so there is some comfort
VinnieVol 07-29-08, 10:06 PM Misery loves company. My plan was to go to Best Buy tomorrow. When I got home last night I fished my coupon out so I could be nice and organized. It's something that warrants research, as it's a significant purchase for most of us. yet I've grown weary of obsessing over this tv/refreshing the browser repeatedly as mentioned above. It's pretty much set what the best deal out there is, so for me it's time to dive in. I plan on ordering this week, I mean it this time! :D
moonhawk 07-29-08, 10:23 PM I mean it this time! :D
I hear all you guys.
It's so true--just do it. I got Ultimate Electronics to match BR. More expensive than Mack, but 1/2 back if I don't use it after 4 years--which makes it cheaper than Mack if I don't, and money well spent anyway if I do. Total, a little less than 2.5K
And this set in incredible. You will love it.
So get off the fence and buy it already!! :D

The focus adjustment is included with the calibration I'll be getting in September. I don't want to risk getting another set since my current set doesn't have bowing and the picture is perfectly level. When Eliab adjusted the focus with my 2005 Samsung DLP set it made a huge difference.
Worst case, I would have to get BEstBUy to look at it, but that wouldn't be until another year goes by, right before I would get my yearly calibration. So any changes, or replacements by BestBuy would be taken care of with the calibration.

A friend of mine walked in and saw my 67A750. Borrowed my truck to go and get one. BB had it on sale for 2250. I told him to stop at the post office and get a 10% coupon. He was in to big of a hurry. But when he got there, he said he had it but FORGOT to BRING IT and they gave him 10% off of the sales price. Now I had called ahead for him and had them pull a set and a BD-1500 blu-ray player, but it worked for him. So at least try. Did I mention he is a little impatient sometimes? lol

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the 67".
It sometimes pays to not accept the first answer. I purchased my 67A750 at BB in early June. I went into the sore to get a price match at BB's current 'sale' price of $2199 plus use a 12% Reward Zone coupon. They refused to accept the coupon with the 'sale' price at the store I purchased from. I went to a second BB store and first asked if they would accept the coupon and 'sale' price if I were purchasing a 67A750. They scanned the coupon and said 'yes'. I then asked for a price match and they agreed. End price - $1935 + tax.

my problem is, I live in a rural area.. so I really only have one BB option unless I want to drive an unreasonably long distance.
The good news is.. after this I tried Circuit City.. their sale price is $100 more this week... but I found a 10% off coupon for them and they said the would let me apply the coupon to the sale price. So, being tired and weary of all of this I pulled the trigger. End price - $2069 + tax... I'm so glad to have it purchased and done. Now all that's left is enjoyment! And at 3 yrs/no interest.. I tacked on a 37" Sammy LCD... why not, you only live once. :)

Yes. Start with some basic user-menu adjustments:
Picture mode Movie. This will get you much closer to reference.
Detailed Settings
Gamma -3. Helps with mid-grays.
xvYCC off. Cable/Sat/Broadcast/Blu-ray sources won't use it for years.
Picture Options
Color Tone Warm 2. To tone down the bluish whites.
Color Gamut sRGB. To take the neon out of extreme colors.

Unfortunately not everyone has an extra 300 dollar restocking fee laying around if they dont like the set, sorry I was harsh too, just a 2000 to 3000 dollar is a big purchase to me
where the heck are you buying your stuff that they are charging you 300 bucks to "restock" it? I would suggest you find a new establishment to purchase your goods, because you are being robbed. I have never paid a restocking fee for anything I have returned. The only LEGAL way for them to charge you a restocking fee is if it is not a regular stocked item and they had to special order it for you.
After reading your posts, I think you would be much happier with a plasma that burns like the sun. You seem to want a picture that burns your retinas out, so plasma is probably the way to go. You can use it as a food warmer too, as it will be nice and hot!!

Just for the record, BB, CC, and RCW clearly state that unless a product is defective, they will charge a restocking fee on just about anything but TVs, including things like opened software, opened ipods, and laptop computers. Guess the moral is you better be darned sure you have what you want when you plunk down the money for these things.

I have never tried to return opened software, opened ipods, or laptop computers, but I have returned a lot of prefectly good, non-defective stuff, including computer monitors, Monster cables, other cables, remote controls, switches, connectors, and a printer, and have never paid a restocking fee. (BB is my favorite B&M source for electronic & computer stuff, so I have also purchased [and not returned] a lot of stuff from them.)

however both of them have only the darkchip 3.....

I don't see where it matters. Mine is so bright on max that it has to be reduced even daytime with open windows in order to not get eye strain.

BATman94 08-01-08, 09:47 PM Sorry if I am re-hashing an already answered question, but while waiting to see the pricing of the Mit LaserVues, I was re-looking at the Samsung 750 line. My question is: Do 750s have 120 Hz or not? I've have seen specs listing it, but read posts/reviews say it does not??? Is this just a typing error on the specs sheet? If it doesn't have 120 Hz, should this be a deal-breaker given that I've read the 120 Hz allows for smoother picture in high motion scenes?
I wish Mit would be done with it already and show their cards. It seems like it will be the 67'' 750 if LaserVue is astronomically priced (which seems likely). I was going to see about an LCD with LED backlight, in the 52'' range, but those seem too expensive for the real estate too.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Yes they run at 120Hz but it has nothing to do with the smoothness of the picture the way you are thinking, that is a common misconception. DLP is fast enough that it doesn’t need artificial interpolation in order to provide a smooth picture.

750 DLPs do have 120 hz--but the unit displays what the INPUT is, so some posters have confused this with not having 120. And due to the naturally high refresh rate of DLPs, they do much smoother motion without artificial "enhancements" to get there.
And I stopped holding my breath on the Mits Vaporvues and got the 67A750--
And I'm glad I did. :D
Took er back, Samsung HL67A750 just could'nt deal with DLP, viewing angles, brightness at night, then shut down would'nt restart had to unplug it to get it to work. That scared me. BB great to deal with no hassle return worth a little extra money to know that.

Brightness at night? Did you put the LEDs to minumum? Mine are fine at minimum. I also use 6500K backlights. Although I haven't had any viewing angle problems.
BATman94 08-11-08, 04:18 PM Has anyone done an in-person side-by-side comparison with the 61'' and the 67'' 750s? I went to look again at a store, but all they had on display was the 61?

BATman94 08-11-08, 04:21 PM If someone knows where better to post this, let me know. Otherwise, I've put it in this board since I visit it a lot:
While viewing some sets at a local store, I noticed 2 LCD TV that were similar in size/price playing the same source. However, one looked much more film-like (I actually liked that better), and one looked like a video (very crisp but didn't give the feeling of being at the movies).
I asked the salesman what was producing the difference. He said the video-like one was a component connection, and the film-like one was HDMI. Is this correct reason for the difference? Could the two connections give that distinct of a viewing difference? I was thinking it had something to do with 24P, but wasn't sure.

The film-like one was probably the Samsung 120hz with the smooth-motion processing chip. It makes TV look like a soap opera, which is an effect that some love and others find sickening.
I may be wrong, but that salesman sounds like a dope to me.

The film-like one was an Aquios, and the video-like one was a Sony. The video-like one looked like the "soap opera", the Aquios looked more like a movie theater. I can't believe it would the the cables alone either, but the smooth motion (or whatever it's called in the particular brand) seems to be a better explanation.

Yeah, the sony's "smooth motion" feature produces a very "video" look to it. The film look is what I want personally, but go back and look at the Aquos, with something really fast moving on it and see how it looks. The reason why "smooth motion" was created was to compensate for motion blur, so its a big give and take issue here
Kodiak450 08-12-08, 03:36 PM I bought the 56" series 6 (2007) model a couple weeks ago and had to have the service tech out to try to fix a picture problem I was experiencing. He opened up the back and checked to make sure the lens didn't have dust on it, so he used the special cloth that came with the HDTV and wiped down the lens, he then replaced the DLP chip to see if that was causing the picture problems. Well after he did that and powered up the set I noticed that there was all these spots showing up and very noticeable when the screen displayed a black color. He then did not know what to do and said they would have to come back at another time. Well I wasn't about to wait another week or what ever time it would've took so I called Circuit City and they said they would replace the set with a new one. I also noticed that the price which I paid for the HDTV was selling for $1349.00 now, so I had to go down to CC to get a price guarntee, which they honored.
I also went to look at the floor models and noticed that they all had the same picture distortion as what I was initially experiencing (when viewing light colors, like white). So CC said they had to order me a new TV cause they had none in stock (the 56" DLP). Then I noticed on the floor display the 61" series 7 (which came out a couple months ago) and liked how the LED light performed vs the incadescent bulb with the color wheel in my current set, so I upgraded to the 61" series 7 which they ordered yesterday cause that model too was out of stock.

Taking it back won't be an issue since I will be ordering it online, but I am little concerned that the '67 may have more geometry issues and the '61. Although I would prefer to go bigger, either size will do nicely.
Kodiak450 08-12-08, 07:19 PM CC yesterday when I was there had both the 61" & 67" series 7. Both had well lite screen as compared to series 6, the only diffference was size. A 67" is a big screen and IMO I would put it in a huge room. My media room is like 25x27 and my recliners are about 10-12 ft away from my TV's. I've read somewhere online that you can get a screen door effect from some DLP's because when a huge V is placed in a small room and you are closer to the screen, blemishes could at times be seen. I intially had a 46" 1080i I purchased back in 03 and when I purchased that I was in a smaller house, and the media room was very small, maybe 10x15? Anyway the 46" felt like over kill but still was a great size for that room. The house I own now is much bigger and my media room is much much bigger. I could probably pull off a 67", but I think a 61" would be appropriate. The only reason I opted to go to 61" was to have the series 7 model, the extra $380.00 will pay for itself by not having to buy replacement bulbs over the coming years. I did purchase the 4 year warranty, and haven't looked into whether or not the bulbs would be covered. I should be getting my 61" sometime this week.

There have actually been considerably fewer reports of geometry issues on the bigger 67" sets. They seem to have a little sturdier bezel, thus less flex on the screen.

THX viewing distance for 67" is 7-8 feet--some prefer double the screen diagonal, or 11' 2".
I sit 10-11 feet from mine--seems about right to me.
aaronwt 08-12-08, 08:41 PM There is no screen door effect from a wobulated DLP which is what all the RP DLP sets are.
StillwaterTownie 08-12-08, 10:08 PM Has anyone done an in-person side-by-side comparison with the 61'' and the 67'' 750s? I went to look again at a store, but all they had on display was the 61?
Also, has anyone figured out the odds of not getting their first set of the 750 series without geometry issues? Seems like a pervasive problem, and I would hate to keep lugging them back to the store for exchanges.
I did while in Best Buy and couldn't tell any difference in picture quality.
Golferdude 08-13-08, 04:16 PM The Best Buy here doesn't have the Samsungs DLPs. Wish they did maybe they would honor price matches. Circuit City wouldn't price match something at Fry's yesterday. The Fry's had the HL61a750 and the CC had the HL67a750. Of course the location at CC was bright and at Fry's was real dark. But both still looked good. If you look at them, check the settings because normally they have all be played with.
I got the 67A750 a few months back, and while it has a slight geometric distortion on the bottom left corner that to me is noticable most others can't see it. (It's less than 1/4 inch.) It's also only visible in non-HD content, such wide screen mode (where there are two thin bars on either side of SD images) or 16:9, etc. Personally, since I can't stand watching feeds that don't fill the screen to the bezels, I use my digital box to stretch or zoom non-HD content anyway.
I have no issues with bowing that I can tell. News tickers, for example, look fine. I think sometimesI detect a very, very slight bow toward the middle, but repeated measurements say otherwise, and I believe this is a visual trick brought about by the shape of the TV and the displaying of a straight line across the sheer width of the set.
My only issue with the set is that non-HD content can look pretty poor, not just grainy or full of noise but even dark at times, but after some time with this set and another it's clear that the size of the set is just exposing the flaws of non-HD content and broadcasts. HD content (which does fill the screen to the bezels, btw) is just stunning, and by HD content I mean true HD. I have found many HD channels that broadcast at least some content that is just not up to snuff (and it's easy to tell because of the image size in Just Scan mode), but true HD content on HD channels - wow.
Samhung 08-14-08, 09:36 PM Okay so I posted a problem with my DLP 61" (the new one with leds) I reported that I had a problem with the sound cutting in and out every five min. I took that one back and got another one. Guess what.....same problem!! this one is less noticeable but it is still there (every 5 min. it hickups (the sound that is))
If someone else here has this same unit, can you check this out for me.
I did notice that when I have the coax cable plugged in, it doesn't do this.
It only happens with the rca cables ex. dvd player, satillite using rca for sound (red and white) and s-video for video.
This also happens on my xbox 360 using the component wires.

I'm getting the Series 7 61" delivered this afternoon, I'll let you know if I experience the same thing. CC priced matched the series 7 last night for me for $1649.00. I saw it at amazon for that price delivered. The way I hook up my home theather is I have the HDMI and optical cables going into my harmon kardon AVR 247 from HD dual DVR cable box then from HK- HDMI to TV. I was comparing the new LED series 7 to the series 6 56" i bought 2 weeks ago, and the series 7 is brighter in both whites and blacks and color. CC is gonna take back the 56" today after they deliver the 61".
Kodiak450 08-16-08, 08:09 AM I finally got my Samsung 61" series 7 HD set after a long day of waiting. CC was 1 1/2 hours late and showed up with the wrong set, then I had to wait another 2 hours for them to come back with the right set. Anyway I am very impressed at the difference in quality the Series 7 has vs the Series 6. The LED definately is 40% brighter all around the board in the color department and virtually the side viewing seems 80% eliminated. The sound on the TV is awesome and a huge difference is noted. I use a AVR for my sound, but also if I turn the sound up on the HD set you can get this reallly cool echo going that sounds real good to me. I ddin't hook up the PIP function yet, but briefly read how it's done. Was sort of dissappointed with the PIP only being able to display an analog channel "so it says". I think in time this will be improved in the serie 8 when or if it comes out next year?
The size of the screen looks huge! I definately wouldn't go with a 67" in this room, it would be too over powering IMO. I noticed with the 61" my eyes don't stay afixed looking in one spot, due to the large screen size.
The sound is really great. The built in EQ is definately useful. Now Samsung claims faster start up time with screen when you turn on TV, but I don't see it being much faster. Soon as I turn it on, it seems it takes like 6 seconds before I get a picture, however the brightness is instant on compared to the old incadescent bulb. The screen size itself actually is bigger then what I imagined and really makes the room feel like a theater now. Viewing angles are now excellent now matter where you sit, ofcoarse sitting directly dead center is always best IMO, but I wouldn't really have a problem sitting in other locations in the room like I did with my older 46" I had.

Where do you sit when you're in a movie theater? Do your eyes stay fixed in one spot?
Samhung 08-16-08, 11:21 AM Have you tried rca cables to see if the sound kicks in and out every 5min.?
I had a buddy come over with his xbox 360 elite with hdmi hook up and so far the hdmi and coax are the only 2 things that the sound does not cut out on. (I don't have a fiber optic cable to try) So, it's component and rca that is onnly doing this.
anyone else having this problem?
joey791 08-16-08, 01:24 PM Yeah, I have a sound "clip" where the sound messes up, there is no time frame that I have noticed on it, its only on cable, but I use my receiver for everything else.
Samhung 08-16-08, 05:29 PM bought some other rca cables hooked it up to my reciever and turened the tv sound off (so now the sound is coming from my tv into my stereo reciever) sound still cuts out every five min.
argh!!! I do like the tv other then this problem....like I said this is the second tv with the same problem
moonhawk 08-16-08, 07:38 PM Are you using an antenna?
What is your source?
Anyone have problems with the automatic shut off AFTER firmware upgrade to 1005.3?
I had the original firmware 1006 and then I started having the shut off problems when Olympics began. I upgraded to the latest firmware 1005.3 and I'm still having the problem. I noticed that the sound still worked but no picture for about 2 seconds before it came back on. It sux when you are watching olympics, because you could totally miss a important moment in the race. In fact important things happen as fast as 0.01 seconds in these Olympics.....GO Michael Phelps!!!

I have posted this info in the above posts....
tried rca cables (red white) with s video,
tried dvd player using rca cables (red white) with s video (different cables)
tried xbox 360 with component
tried shutting off the sound on the tv and running through the stereo with rca
all of them have the same issues (every five min. sound hickups)
things that seem not to be affected:

I have had these short temporary blackouts--I rewound my Dish DVR to the spot, and replayed through my second TV, an old CRT set in another room. (It gets the signal from the same source.)
It blacked out also, so it is not the Sammy--at least in my case.
I think it is a problem with the satellite signal uplink from the other side of the globe--not our Samsungs. Not too surprising considering what they are trying to do.

Cable, satellite, OTA?
Have you called Samsung or your retailer?
Sounds like you have a bad set. If this has happened on two different Sammys, It may be a cable or source related issue, though it sounds like you have ruled that out.

I wonder if the temporary blackouts include sound. my blackouts only include picture but sound is ok. when I called samsung they asked me if everything shut off including sound and I mistakenly told them yes both picture and sound turn off.
Did anyone else have total blackout without the firmware upgrade with both sound and picture turning off?
I wouldn't be surprised if it was the feed from china or from timewarner cable that was the problem.
I think this blackout has never occured when using my TV as a computer monitor. But I'm not 100% sure about that. The times I remember it happening definitely occurred with cable TV watching olympics in HD (1080i).
moonhawk 08-17-08, 01:41 AM I only get a short video dropout, not audio, and only watching the Olympics, and I do not have cable I have Dish.
If you have questions, you should call NBC, that is the problem as I stated before.
thanks moonhawk, I think you are right, it's probably NBC and/or my cable company's fault not my TV.
That's reassuring. I'll be on the lookout if it happens when I watch anything else but the olympics. But I probably won't be watching anything else but the olympics until it's over and college football and TV season begins.
Kodiak450 08-17-08, 10:28 AM Where do you sit when you're in a movie theater? Do your eyes stay fixed in one spot?
I couldn't answer you that, I don't go to movie theaters, haven't for a very long time. I'm sitting about 13 ft away from the HDTV, as compared to looking at my 13' and 20" SDTV's I have int he same room, my eyes stay affixed to the screen, when viewing the 61" I noticed my eye muscles move at times when viewing (not that it is a big deal) just something I noticed.
So has anyone hooked up their PIP yet? I was playing around with it last night and am a little confused as to how to properly hook it up say via cable box. It says you would need a spliter and an A/B switch " take it so you can view every channle including all the premiums which I get in the PIP mode"?
I did also hook it up as a regular input (meaning it wasn't going through the box" but only am able to get like 19 channels. Right now I have an HDMI coming from HD cable box into samsung, but want to be able to have the PIP able to get all the channels like how I do with the current set up. I saw it says the PIP can only recive analog broadcasts only, but don't understand why. The HDTV has all the built in tuners so it should be able to perform this function. Is there something I am not clearly understanding 100% here?
How to you guys have your PIP hooked up and how many channnels are you recieving.
Thanks in advance for any help.
rkm20151 08-17-08, 10:31 AM My 67a750 came with firmware version 1006.1. I don't have automatic shutoff but I get a blank screen ( shut off ) while browsing channels. I don't hear any sound either since channels are changing. It happens just once in a while. The blank screen is not like changing channels. I see HDMI1 1080i 60Hz on the screen. I am using direct feed from DirecTV HD receiver.
Has anyone seen similar issue?
joey791 08-17-08, 11:12 AM Ok I had something wierd happen late last nite, I went from full screen to two blocks in each lower corner and they shrunk down til my screen was black than the picture came back up regularly.
Where are all the inputs located? Reason I ask is SamsClub has Sammy HL72A650C. Not sure what the "C" means. This is the only place I've seen the 72 on display. Anyways, all the photos I've seen online shows the inputs on the right side of the TV. The one at Sams has all the inputs in the back of the set? What's that mean? Sams model is a bit different then other retailers selling the 72?

It could be that the model C is made exclusively just for Samsclub. I never saw a 72" on display, but I would assume they would be on the right side just like the rest of the other models. But seeing how a 72" is a much bigger screen, maybe they do place them in different location?

Not sure that's what I'm trying to figure out. The model # matches what's on Samsung's website, HL72A650C1FXZA. But the Samsung website shows the inputs on the right side of the set. One at SamsClub are in the center rear.
PC Vidman 08-17-08, 03:11 PM FYI - for those ready to buy any TV from CC. I purchased a 67A750 at CC today. Sale price is $2199.99 and they accepted this coupon for 10% off of that:
http://www.divshare.com/download/5010218-b86
The coupon states that photocopy is not acceptable but salesman said that if it would scan, it would be accepted and it was. So - $1980 plus sales tax for 67". Also offering 36 months no interest which I did not use.

FronzDan 08-18-08, 12:37 PM Just mentioning that I've also experienced occasional dropouts during the HD broadcast of the Olympics on NBC. Video, not audio. I'm on Comcast. So it is almost certainly NBC, not the carrier and definitely not the Sammy.

Not sure if this falls under the same category, but NBC drops HD usually when there is a local crawl on the bottom of the screen. This happens all the time during Stanley Cup playoffs. Once the crawl is off the screen the HD content returns.
sharpie510 08-18-08, 08:21 PM Hi, I am ready to buy a HL67A750 but I cannot figure out which stand is the proper one to order. The Samsung pdf for the HL67A750 states that the TR500X3B stand will work (on one page) and on the other page it says TR72B. I checked the width of both these stands, and neither one is the same width as the HL67A750. What's wrong with Samsung? Can't they get this info straight? I find it hard to believe they would NOT sell a stand that is a perfect fit for this unit considering it is their top of the line dlp.
Any advise would be welcome. I really do want a stand that is perfectly flush on the sides with the tv.
Thanks.

I got the Omnimount G372 stand which is 70 inches wide. They also have a G362 which is 60 inches wide

I think TR500X3B will work fine for 67" TV base to fit. I was at BB few days back and measured 67" and 61" base and both have same size. Only issue with this stand will be that your TV will have hang screen a bit outside.

Two are on FIOS and one is on Comcast.
I need at least 5 tuners to handle my HD recordings since many times I'll have 5 things on at once.

So I was at costco yesterday and they had a 67" DLP Series 5 for $1999.99, or was it a 72"? I forgot already. Anyway the inputs were in the center of the rear of set, and I felt being the nature of the age of the Set and it being considered dated this day in age, I felt they were asking too much. Not sure what the difference between the Series 5 and 6 are, I know cosmetically there is a slight difference. I'm guessing one difference is after the series 5 they moved the inputs to the right side in series 6.
theranman 08-20-08, 12:46 PM The 67" Series 5 is a bulb model, not LED.
As for the rifles, they look like BB guns. ;)

The one on the bottom is, the one above it is a 800 fps air gun. The other ones you partially see are a 12 guage, and a Ruger SS synthetic stock .22, then next to that is a 1000 fps break open air gun. My high powered rifles are locked up in a gun safe. I ran out of room in the safe, so thats where I keep the rifles you see in the pictures.
I already knew that the series 5 is a bulb model, the LED model is the new series 7.

left4dead 08-21-08, 02:44 PM After 2 months of going back and forth (and 4 service repair visits), Samsung FINALLY agreed to exchange my HL50A650 unit (geometry, bowing issues) with a new one.
However I'm afraid that my replacement unit might also have bowing and geometry issues like the 1st one. Is there anything that I can do to ensure that I receive a good unit this time around?
smugmug 08-22-08, 12:54 PM Hey guys - longtime lurker and I finally decided to sign up and join the party.
I'm definitely contemplating getting the 61A750, but I don't want to get hung out to dry with the price and shipping. I was reading some of the previous pages and it seems like people got theirs from Circuit City, BestBuy and others. I'm actually pretty close to about 5 or 6 electronic stores and would to hear other peoples input before I hop in the car and do an Electronics Store Drive-A-Thon.
Thanks in advance,

nickels55 08-22-08, 02:23 PM I saved a fortune by purchasing mine over the internet. Some people aren't comfortable doing this, but the >$500 price difference from CC to 1call was too big to ignore (plus I got free shipping and 18 months no interest). I had no issues with mine though, and if something did come up it would have had to be resolved through Samsung instead of the store - so that could have been an issue.
Thankfully everything with the set was fine and my wallet is fatter for having made the purchase online.

Assuming that the 2 years no interest goes well, I will probably be satisfied with CC. The payments are low, the delivery guys were careful and helpful, though the in-store service was only average. I would be a total wreck waiting for a TV to be shipped after buying it on the net, but that is probably the best bet as far as price goes. Also, there are some terrible CC stores, so I guess there are good and bad points with either way.
Kodiak450 08-23-08, 07:55 AM I got the series 7 61" from CC for $1649.00 (The same price amazon was offering). CC price matched it without hesitation. Intially the cost was $1999.99, then negotiated it to $1799.99 "before the sale started", then had it price matched to $1649.00. Which reminds me, I have to do some searching and see if I can find it cheaper and get price matched again. I have 60 days price match guarnteed. Whatever you choose, defianately get the series 7 with the LED light. The older series may be reduced this time and age, but the LED series 7 are well worth the money and will save you money on replacing expensive incadescent bulbs in the future.
Golferdude 08-23-08, 08:37 AM I happen to stop by the Fry's store and they had the 61A750 on sale for $1,499. I went back to work and stopped by the local CC and asked them if they would match Fry's price. After about 5 mins the guy came back and said corporate said they wouldn't match it as it was not an advertised price and it was below their cost. With their "unblievable price guarantee" they would of had to sell it for $1,459. So I ended up driving back to Fry's and bought it. Of course I had to pay tax but it was still cheaper than the big river. Plus if it has a problem I can just run it back to Fry's and get another one.
gparris 08-23-08, 09:58 AM Where are all the inputs located? Reason I ask is SamsClub has Sammy HL72A650C. Not sure what the "C" means. This is the only place I've seen the 72 on display. Anyways, all the photos I've seen online shows the inputs on the right side of the TV. The one at Sams has all the inputs in the back of the set? What's that mean? Sams model is a bit different then other retailers selling the 72?
I have a HL72A650 and all the major inputs are on the back with the thumbdrive and some composite connections to the side.
It seems to be the standard for this set.
BTW, does anyone who got this set notice any labels or stickers on the front of the HL72A650 once taken out of the box?
CC delivered this set to me without any on the box, so I wonder if I got a "used" set instead of a new one.
I notice the HL61/67A750 sets all have lots of stickers on the front and this HL72A650 had none...I'm suspicious.
Anyone got this set out-of-box and found these labels/stickers on the front?
joey791 08-23-08, 10:53 AM Bought mine new in box and there were no stickers on it

Thank you for your prompt feedback.:)
-I just thought because I switched from another set that was malfunctioning before (different model, different manufacturer)with my extended warranty from CC, it was a used set.
Michael.W 08-23-08, 04:28 PM Hey guys, this is my very first post but a very long one. I just want to share my experience with everyone after seeing this display in all its glory. Enjoy and thanks for reading.
I saw the HL61A750 with my own two eyes for the first time tonight at the Samsung Experience Store in NYC last evening. The display was configured within a home theater setup complete with 5.1 surround speakers, receiver, BD-P1500 Blu-ray player, and the SMT-H3090 digital set top box 160GB DVR running a live Olympics boxing match in 1080i over a time-warner feed. At first glance the display looked to be a flat-panel design from the front, but walking towards the rear of the display confirmed that it was a DLP model; the thin bezel really fooled me; a really great design. Still not knowing what model it was exactly I crossed my fingers and read the display card which had the model information. It read Model No. HL61A750. I read it twice just to make sure but it was the real thing; so I decided to sit down to watch the live Olympic boxing match in 1080i. I was sitting roughly 7-8 feet from the display in the center of the couch directly facing the HL61A750.
After watching the boxing match for a few minutes the picture quality did not satisfy my eyes at first. I saw some slight screen pixilation when the boxers would throw punches at each other. This did not happen often, but it was enough to make me notice the problem. The screen was also was not as bright as the other flat-panels in the store, mainly the plasmas, but I admit I am being bias because my eyes have developed a liking for the glass screen on my Samsung HP-T5064, but this would not hold true for very long.
I sat there watching the screen and thinking about the many positive reviews I have read for this display. I thought to myself this could not be the same display which I have heard people rave about so much. So I decided to do a comparison with two other models in the store, the LN70F91BD an 70-inch 1080P LED-backlit LCD with a 500,000:1 contrast ratio and the HPR8072 an 80-inch plasma that was the showstopper at CES 2005. These displays were really a sight to behold and really high-end and expensive; just being in the same room with them brings a new found satisfaction of how advanced high definition displays have become today. Although these displays were amazing in their own part, I was carefully watching the feed to notice any discerning factors, and luckily I did. Both displays showed problems with the live Olympic HD feed, although not as noticeable as the HL61A750. I was actually relieved to see the problems and decided that it was the time-warner source causing the picture quality problems. One thing to note here is the picture quality on your display will only be as a good as the source you use.
I decided to walk back towards the HL61A750 and give it another try. I saw all the amazing equipment inside the TR-500X3BX stand and wondered how the display would look with a better source. Knowing that I did not want to leave without seeing the display in all its glory a product specialist was standing by for questions and I asked when they would be displaying content other than the live HD feed. He said that this promotion would only run until the end of the Olympics. After talking with the product specialist for a short while he knew that my mind was pretty much set on the HL61A750 and offered to demo the display for me. He switched the source over to the BD-P1500 Blu-ray player with The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Blu-ray version already inside. Skipping past the previews and right into the first few chapters my earlier impression of the display had already been forgotten and no pixilation or rainbow-effects were found anywhere on the screen. The HL61A750 became a totally different experience. I have never seen such a film-like display outside of a real movie theater. The colors, skin-tones, contrast level, brightness were all spot-on as I was totally immersed into the movie from my seat in this home theater demo. It was really that stunning. Although I was not sure if the display was professionally calibrated, my thoughts were that if it was then it clearly explains why it’s so amazing, but if not then the picture quality would only get better after calibration. Overall I’m extremely satisfied with my first encounter with the HL61A750; it will surely be the next HD display on my shopping list if I don’t pick up its bigger brother the HL67A750 first.
The "pixelation" you describe is cable company compressing the signal. Happens witb all cable companies when fast moving images on screen. Happens on everyones TV.
Brian1313 08-23-08, 09:29 PM I'm confused about this obsession with getting the brightest TV. Unless they sit along ways away, most people are going to have to knock the brightness down anyways to keep from getting a headache.

Same here man, my room is quite dark. That's what curtains are for.
stigma15 08-24-08, 01:22 AM Hey guys,
I am in a dire situation. I just bought a HL56A650 for $1299 and it works/looks great EXCEPT I see "rainbow effect" literally every minute or so I am watching a movie. It only happens on a high quality video source (DVD and HD), but apparently either I am very sensitive to RE or this TV has a ssslllooowww color wheel.
Is there any way I can attempt to remedy this? I have tried setting the TV at different heights and sitting different lengths away with negligible or no results. Is it possible the color wheel needs time to "break in"? I would hate to return it because I love it (not to mention the hassle of returning it).

There may be settings you can try to lessen the effect, but it sounds as though you may be one of the small number of people who are particularly sensitive to RBE. There is no break in time for the wheel. It will always display it the way it is now. If you grab an LED model and still see RBE, then DLP may not be right for you.
Kodiak450 08-24-08, 09:06 AM I also didn't have any stickers on my HL-61750 new out of box and asked the same thing if it was a return. But I saw the HDTV coming out of the box and the straps being cut off when they unpackaged it in my home. My HL 56650 however did have the stickers on it. I was kinda upset that there was no stickers on the front display of the HL61750, I was palnning on leaving the stickers on because I liked the look. I would've cropped out the LED lights to the left of the set so they were visible through the stickers though. Maybe Samsung limited the stickers as a way to save money?? They were high quality type stickers.
aaronwt 08-24-08, 09:37 AM I assume you are joking right?
krisjs1767 08-24-08, 01:43 PM My set randomly cycles on and off. Has firmware 1006.1.
Also, when using S-video input (for laser disks), I get constant, flashing "Not Available" screen alert, even though I am otherwise able to watch the laser disk video content.
Any suggestions?

Seems with the economy going down - you can get much better deals. Be tough negotiating price.

Kirk, good to see some local guys on the forum. I'm down here in Olympia.

Alright, I'm ready to pull the trigger on the 67 and Circuit City has the best price locally and I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find a 10% off coupon. I've found several Best Buy ones, but can't find a Circuit City one. I would buy from Amazon, but I'd really like to use 36 month no interest financing and Amazon only has 24 month with their credit card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I'm using this site correctly so bare with me - just signed up!
I'm looking to get other opinions on what I'm seeing on my new Samsung HL61A750 TV's picture. Set-up TV 2 days ago and love the picture on my standard DVD movies.
Question:
The top third of screen has a slightly darker (blue) appearance to it, which is quite noticeable when watching old black & white movies. Can this be "adjusted or corrected away", or is it something unique to MY TV requiring it to be returned and replaced with another. Has anyone else noticed this issue with the Samsung 750 models?
I apologize in advance if this issue has already been discussed an answered, but with kids, I haven't had much time to hunt for past postings.
This problem is starting to bug me and I only have 30 days to replace with seller.

How high is the stand compared to your viewing position? If your eyes are below the set (i. e. if you are looking up at it), the top of the screen will be darker. Likewise, if you are looking down toward the set, the lower part of the screen will be darker. Try moving up and down while watching one of those B/W movies and see if it changes anything. I've noticed that the 6?A750 units appear to be fairly sensitive to vertical viewing position. This could be due to the design constraints they are under to make the sets as thin as possible (if so, I wish they would make them deeper, since I designed plenty of space into my home theater for a large, deep DLP unit - but that's just me, and I digress...).
If you find that it is a vertical position issue, you can try tipping the set forward or backward to adjust where it is "aimed". Tipping it from vertical (within reason) won't affect the set - many showrooms do this with sets mounted up near the ceiling, and with the elimination of the color wheel, the new units have no moving parts of conseqence.
Samhung 08-26-08, 06:53 PM Okay so I'm back again......I'll run down with my problem I am still having although I am on my second set and had a repair guy change out the sound board.
Bought my 61" series 7 samsung (led) at costco
got a decent price $1700 with stand +tax
Got it home, hooked it up and noticed that every 5-7 min. the sound was cutting out.
this happened when I conected up with the rca (red white yellow cables) and also component (with xbox 360)
It didn't do it with HDMI or cable straight into the tv.
So I took this set back and got another one.....same problem
So I phoned Samsung, they had a guy come out and replace the sound board (this board is an upgrade)....
I am getting the usual 5-7 min. sound cut outs but not as noticeable.
I phone the tech guy and he said that it is something in my house that is making it do that.
So I unplugged everything, plugged the tv into a diff. out let and just have my sat. plugged in and on...still getting the samething. like I said its not as noticable but its there.
If someone has this set can they listen very carfully (maybe to a soft misic channel) and see if the sound skips.
or does anyone have any suggestions....before I return this set too...(I do want to keep it)
thanks!!!

I'm absolutely sure mine does not do that. You could have gotten two bad sets. It is unlikely, but possible. Does it do it on every source that you have had hooked up?
floridapoolboy 08-26-08, 11:13 PM I just received my HL50A650 from C.C., nice looking set. I read on the C.C. site that the Sammy had variable audio out, but so far I can't find it in the menus or in the manual. Can I control the audio output via the remote, or do I have to use my receiver's remote? I tried searching this thread but no luck, thanks!
hotcoffeeburns 08-27-08, 12:16 AM So I received my 67A750 and it's awesome, but I am experiencing one problem and wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen.
I have everything running through my Onkyo SR705...PS3, 360, and cable box through HDMI and Wii and PC through component. Everything is being output to the TV through a HDMI cable. Everything except the PC seems to work. I used the exact same setup with my HD1000U and it working fine, but for some reason, the TV will not get a signal from the PC. I've checked connections and such, and the only thing I haven't tried it switching the port it is plugged into on the receiver to see if it is something weird with that. I should probably try that, but figured I would ask before I did.
