Can I use Powered PC Speakers with my Samsung?

The speakers only have a 3.5mm jack

Thanks,

Bob

Who did you talk to at Samsung? Customer support, or do you have some inside line? If the former I certainly will put about zero stock in that.

I'll believe it when I see at least a press release.

Also: There are no 2009 Samsung DLPs, LED or otherwise. The last models made were the 2008 line (like the HL67A750 I have), and they stopped being available -- for the most part -- a few months into 09.

If they're powered speakers, yes.

You can with a cable that converts the 3.5mm jack to a RCA, since I believe the sound output (analog) is only RCA. You may have a bigger problem however since I believe the output is a fixed level so the sound output will be at a constant level.

Speaking of 3D on the late great RP DLP's, what is the latest on that? Have any of you tried it? If so, how is it?

Very curious to see if this was just a case of jumping the gun on an emerging trend by Samsung, or some really prescient marketing decisions.

I couldn't find a specific 3d thread, but I imagine there is one here somewhere.

Thanks

I've officially had it with DLP's. I needed a bulb replacement on my HL50A650 a little over a year of owning the set and wasn't close to the end of the bulb's life. Samsung was nice enough and replaced it despite it being just out of warranty. Well less than 3 months later its gone again. After some haggling Samsung was again nice enough to come fix it for free. I'm expecting something else to be wrong besides the bulb this time. Either way I'm done. I'm going to get it fixed and try to sell it. I don't blame Samsung for getting out of the DLP market. It was probably getting too pricey with all the repairs.

Not to mention that I have not run into anyone who hasn't loved the picture on my LED DLP. It continues to be a great TV. I think I am not alone in the group that would have never bought a DLP until this LED model came along. I was also sad to see that Samsung doesn't appear to be making any new LED DLP models.
My next TV will be a LED LCD model.

So how ie the 3D solution on an x650 expected to work with the upcoming DirecTV demo? It seems as though the x650 series has a true 120hz refresh, so theoretically, we should be able to see it... right?

You'll need the converter that Mits is going to release.

I had assumed modern 3D hardware just wasn't going to be compatible with the HL56A650 (and other Samsung models from similar lines), but that is happily not the case:

http://hdguru.com/samsungs-legacy-3d-hdtv-owners-get-a-reprieve/2108/

This may not be new news to many. Since there hasn't been anything posted here in months, I thought I'd mention it here just in case. If anyone has any experience with the Panasonic DMP-BDT300 or DMP-BDT350 players and how well they work with the Samsungs, any feedback would be great.

Take a iook in the 3D threads (source components). These work great with a 1080p Samsung DLP.

I have a HL56A650 that will not stay on. While watching TV one night it randomly turned off. After a second or two it tried to turn back on. Now it does the same thing every time you try to turn it on. Press power and the blue power button lights up and the lamp LED starts to blink. The start up melody plays and the lamp starts to heat up. I get a picture for about 5 seconds, then it clicks and turns off. After a second or two it tries to turn back on. The lamp comes on and everything tries to start, but it shuts back down after 2-3 seconds. It will continue this cycle until I remove power from the set. I have confirmed that all fans are properly working and clean. I get no other LEDs lighting up on the front to help with troubleshooting. I don't think this is the bulb as the TV is less than 2 years old and I would assume I would get the 3 LEDs blinking if it was the bulb. Any suggestion on what could be wrong? I dont want to start replacing parts hoping that it will work.

So I just received my 3DA-1. I hooked it up to my HL-61A750. The PS3 did not unlock the 3d option in the 3d game demos I have. So it appears that the Gefen is necessary to make it happen. I think I'll wait until 3d bluray is enabled on the PS3 before purchasing the Gefen, because I'm still optimistic about the next PS3 firmware update.

Not without a Gefen EDED unit thaqt has the Mits EDID code. However HDGuru 3D has mentioned a adapter that will work (similar to the Mits adapter and at a similar price) may soon be out that is compatible with Samsung DLP TVs.

I'm a long-time lurker, appreciative for this forum.

The reason for my post is I *think* my Red LED is going out on my HL-61A750, but I'm not certain. It sounds like it's more common for it to just 'go' & screen colors become washed out. In my case, it's intermittent & doesn't have a real specific pattern, one of those things that drove me nuts in my computer tech days. Always easier to troubleshoot something specific.

Here's what happens: At seemingly random times, the picture will become a bluish-green tint & get washed out. I thought something else was going on until I read about some of the problems people have had with the Red LED. Eventually, I realized there's a distinct lack of red in the picture. The picture is watchable in general terms, though it looks horrible with the washed-out colors. It happens through multiple sources, so I don't think it's just my Tivo HD or PS3 or a random HDMI or component cable.

Here's the weird part, though. Sometimes it'll happen right after turning on the TV, sometimes it'll happen after I've been watching for two hours. Then, after a while, the picture will go back to normal. The HD picture will again be perfect, sharp & a good balance of colors. This would be a lot easier to troubleshoot if it would just stay one way.

Appreciate any & all suggestions. Does this sound like a Red LED problem? Or, perhaps, is the LED light engine failing?

Some more info in case it matters:
My firmware version is 1007.4.
The TV is downstairs in our family room, well ventilated & sitting on a TV stand about 2 feet off the floor.
TV is about 1.5 years old - bought it during the Crutchfield deal in Jan 2009. Probably has no more than 2000-2500 hours usage. Bought with AMEX so hopefully I could claim the extended warranty coverage.
No accidents/spills/etc, just normal use. Occasionally one of our ferrets will get to the remote & push random buttons, but that's about it.

I have a Motorolla DCX-3400 DVR, PS3 and a Pioneer VSX-1120 and a Toshiba Satellite A505S laptop. The only device that I can keep a picture on my 67a750 without "snow overlay" or loss of picture on HDMI #3 is my laptop. All of these I am using the same cables and all of these devices work or HDMI ports 1 and 2. Any guess whats going on?

Ok so my 61HLA750 stopped working yesterday morning, I have 3 flashing LED lights happening on lower right hand bottom. Not sure what happened but I do have 2 years left on my warranty. I called the warranty Co, and they are sending a tech out tomorrow. I then called Samsung to see if they still have replacment parts for this tv and they verified that they carry all the parts for it, so thats great news. Now the tech called me an hour ago to verify time frame that he is coming tomorrow and also asked what was happening with the TV. told him same thing I typed above, I said maybe it is the light engine, IDK. I asked him if he had the light engine and other parts with him just incase, and he said no. He said he is coming tomorrow to look at it and see whats wrong, potenially more bad news as I am peobably going to be without my HDTV for longer time frame. I told him I have a warranty and he said that if the price is too expensive to repair, then Samsung will give me the current value for the TV for a trade in for a newer one.

So seeing DLP's are bottom of the HDTV food chain, what will they give me an older LCD or plasma? Whatever the outcome is, I better get a 61" or bigger, whether it be a plasma, of LCD, or better yet LED LCD (which I highly doubt).

IDK, anyone familar with any of this with a warranty? Do you get screwed with the replacement of a smaller screen size?

P.S: which glasses work best?? And how easy is it to get both the PS3 and Xbox 360 3D to work with this converter and TV? I own a Samsung 61A750.

UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with Samsung U.S. and they will be releasing a new line of LED DLP sets at the end of the month.

Yeah, sure. Too funny. I think we can say for sure now somebody was definitely pulling your leg at Samsung. Of course, this year most of them probably hear "LED" and only think about LCD.

why is the Brightness of a HL50A650C1F is 600cd/mē and the brightness of a HL61A750Ais only 450cd/mē ?

I would venture to guess they use the same light engine. If you have the same bulb/led brightness but increase the picture size, than the correllary is that the image will be dimmer.

I have the Panasonic DMP-BDT300 hooked up to a Samsung HL61A750 with a Sony AVR STR-DG910 amp. The dual HDMI ports on the DMP-BDT300 realy give you a blast. The sub/amp HDMI port of 300 hooked the Sony amp HDMI Blu-Ray HDMI port. The Main HDMI port on the 300 hooked to HDMI3/DVI port on the A750. Note: the HDMI cable from the 300 to the Sony amp can be 1.3a. However, the HDMI cable between the 300 and the A750 must be a High Speed newer HDMI version.

The 3D Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray and DVD upscale if fantastic and the sound is out of this world.

I have a new Onkyo TX-NR708 AVR that I will replace the Sony 910 with. I'm not sure I want to do this because I have had such good luck with the sony. The Sony only has 3 input HDMI ports. The Onyko has 7 input HDMI ports.

I also have another HL61A750 in the family room setup exactly the same as above but with a PS3 and the Tru3D Samsung DLP 3D kit added. This is a true 3D experience. I use the Viewsonic 150 3D glasses with both set up's. Works great.

Sure beat paying close to 3 grand each for new 3D HDTV's!

I can see that this hasn't had many posts lately, but I am noticing many of the same problems addressed here...Please help!

The story so far:
I bought my Samsung HL56A650 DLP HDTV December of '08. This was a MAJOR purchase for me. I work 2 jobs full time and other odd jobs. My wife had the good heart to allow us to finance this mammoth knowing how much I would appreciate it.

The first sign of trouble...
January of '10 the tv makes a weird noise, I hear some kind of pop, it cycles on and off and makes some more God awful noises and then I get 3 blinking lights. I call Samsung and they tell me it sounds like the light bulb died. I thought it was terribly short-lived, but being one month out of warranty, I am S.O.L. and I call the distributor for a new bulb. The new bulb arrived and I allowed 48 hours out of the box and sitting before powering it up because I did not know what temperatures it had been exposed to and did not want to heat it up and have a problem with condensation or anything. Voila, it worked again! Not too happy, but what are you going to do, but hope this one lasts longer.

And then 4 months later...
The problem strikes again! I first call the distributor to tell them they must have sent me a bad bulb and they inform me that they only cover the bulb for 3 months. If I popped the bulb in the second that it arrived and played my tv from then until now, it should still be working!!! They direct me to Samsung saying it must be something else. So, I call Samsung and they assign me a technician to come out and repair, (still at my cost). The technician comes in, claims that the housing that the distributor sent me is not a samsung housing, changes the bulb, and hands me a bill. Now I am out the cost of 2 bulbs + labor and NO ONE is willing to admit they are wrong and reimburse me anything. Samsung claims it must have been a bad bulb. Distributor claims it is something else causing the problem.

60 days later...
Oh yes, didn't get very far on this bulb! Same problem. I cal Samsung, and now they say they'll renew my warranty and send a tech out at their cost. I tell them at this point we can agree it is not just a bulb right? And they claim they'll definitely send a tech out with more than just a bulb. I am unable to be home when the tech comes. He comes in, changes the bulb, and leaves. I am fuming! This time, the girl from Samsung says if it breaks again they'll give me a new tv, so I just let it drop after a few nasty phone calls.

And then it breaks again...
Guess what? The tv doesn't work AGAIN! Samsung says they can see that I was offered a new tv, but that girl was not allowed to offer such things and has since been let go. I say at least give me a different repair company, and there is none other in my area. At this point I have been to a bunch of forums and have read about countless similar problems. Samsung again extends my warranty. With this new-found knowledge I ask that the tech comes with a new ballast, color wheel, and power supply to which I have to wait an UNBELIEVABLE amount of time for him to procure and then set up an appointment. He comes, changes the bulb and tries to leave. I tell him no way is he leaving and that this is more than just a light bulb. I call Samsung and dance around their cs lines waiting for a representative. The guy finally ducks out, and I speak to someone there who tells me that if the tv is working, they can't send someone out til it breaks again.

And then again...
Yep, still burning through bulbs, though this one lasted longer than 60 days. I missed one other repair there, but I don't care to go back and figure out where. I am on bulb #6 at this point, with the same repair company coming. I am out about $500 on repairs from my own pocket plus days I had to take off from work to be there for the repairman. I am at my wit's end, but with so much time and money invested, I have no choice but to continue this dance. No one will take ownership. The distibutor claims there are no problems with the bulbs. Samsung will not replace the tv and accept that this is some kind of lemon. The repair company will do nothing more than swap the bulb and tell me they have "visually inspected" the rest of the components. Because the tv works with a new bulb, that must have been the problem.

So, I look to you all for advice. My tv exhibits the following problems:
It makes a low humming sound intermittenly
It obviously burns through bulbs like a teenager changes their underwear
When the bulb does die, I have a cycling of on and off and some whirring noise.

Any and all reasonable suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Well, I've finally found a use for sharpening...I've always kept it at 0....

...when using this 50" DLP (HL650 version) as a PC monitor, bumping the sharpening to 4 (yes all of 4) in MOVIE mode makes the print a bit crisper and easier to read...

Strange though, for some reason in Standard and Dynamic modes the print is already over-sharpened exhibiting ghosting...no such ghosting in Movie mode....must be an internal adjustment issue...

...and while I understand that the image on MY screen will likely differ from any other PC in that the PC Desktop Properties and other color calibrations on the PC vary.....
My Movie settings are:

Contrast 60.....55 for viewing photos...
Brightness 40..30 for viewing photos...
Sharpness 4
Color 70
Tint G100/R0

Detailed Settings:

Black Adjust High
Dynamic Contrast High
Gamma +3
White Balance +10
Edge Enhanscement Off

Picture Options
Color Tone Cool2
DNR Off
HDMI Black Level Low

Finally...these settings are for standard document viewing...MY PC monitor is a bit darker so I lower the contrast and brightness viewing photos...

Just an FYI....

3 Flashing LEDs indicate a failure of either 1 or more of the Color LEDs that are used in place of the DLP bulb and color wheel. Should be an easy fix, other than waiting for parts. Make sure your tech brings the service manual.

I have a Samsung HL56A650 and all of a sudden I got these vertical bars going up and down the screen. It's over everything including the menu's.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas as to what it could be. Maybe it's time to upgrade to an LED.

Two possibilities listed in the trouble shooting section of the service manual. Both point to replacing the DMD board.

(1) Table of Faults and Corrective Actions - Symptom: 40 vertical lines 16 pixels wide. Causes and Countermeasures: DDP3021 or BGA, DMD panel interference - Replace the DMD board.

(2) Trouble Shooting Section Note 4. Line Pattern: Regular line patterns occur vertically or horizontally. Replace the DMD board.

YMMV.

i have a Samsung HL56A650 and i just replaced the bulb and after a few days the screen started pulsing. it would get dim and come back constantly. i can turn it off and it would be fine for a few minutes and then start again. i checked to make sure that the bulb was in properly and there was no dust blocking anything. anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Need Help with my unit. I turn it on and it stays on with very good picture then all the sudden sound and picture is lost. I try to turn it off and it seems like it goes into some kind of reset mode. i hear it trying to re-boot? Then 10-15 mins later will come back on and do the same thing. I at a loss trying to figure this out. Unit is about 3 years old andgets about 4-5 hours of use per day. Football season is coming and I need some help.

having a uninterruptible power supply on my samsung dlp may help my dlp last longer. over 10.000 hours a the lamp and still works

uninterruptible power supply will keep the same voltage when there is a
1.Power failure: defined as a total loss of input voltage.
2.Surge: defined as a momentary or sustained increase in the main voltage.
3.Sag: defined as a momentary or sustained reduction in input voltage.
4.Spikes, defined as a brief high voltage excursion.
5.Noise, defined as a high frequency transient or oscillation, usually injected into the line by nearby equipment.
6.Frequency instability: defined as temporary changes in the mains frequency.

I have another data point on the seemingly inevitable "Check fan no 3" error on my Samsung HL67A750. It popped up on Sunday afternoon and shuts down the TV after several minutes. This is the first problem I've had with this TV in the 2 1/2 years I've owned it. Found this AVS thread quite useful in troubleshooting the problem and finding a DIY solution.

I ordered a couple of replacement fans from CWC-Group.com that should be here in a few days. I have yet to open the back of the TV - but don't anticipate any problems with that.

As I understand it, the Fan#3 is identical to Fan#1. So I might swap both fans out and keep the old working one as an emergency spare.

Will post again if I learn anything significant.

I got that CHECK FAN NUMBER 3 message once about 2 months ago, it only showed once, and never has appeared again. Since nothing ever happened, i have done nothing. I couldnt replace it myself anyway due to physical problems, and i am not gonna call someone in as long as everything is working and the message has never re-appeared. So far, i am 2 months short of 3 years and the set has been 100% perfect, how long can this last?

Hello.

I have a HL61A750. It has served me well the past few years. Occasionally it will freeze up. I would then have to actually unplug and replug it in order to get it responsive again. This occurred mainly if I swapped between too many sources too quickly. The only commands I usually send to the tv is on\off and source change. All my tuners and etc are set top boxes.

Recently I hooked up an ota antenna to the tv. So now I'm actually sending commands to the tv. It starts off working fine. After I switch between a few channels, it then starts switching to channel 2 or 3 after my channel switch. If I keep going, the tv becomes unresponsive and I have to unplug and replug the tv in order to get it responsive again.

Does anybody else have these issues?

If it helps, I'm running firmware 1006.1

Hi, I am very hopeful that someone will be able to point me to what could be wrong before I spend $$ on the service call for my out of warranty HL61A750.

I bought this set in January 2009 from crutchfield, and everything was hunky-dory till a month ago. We came back from a 4 day vacation during which TV was plugged in, and when turned it on, everything had RED color swimming over it. I stayed that way for 10 minutes and then picture returned to normal.
Every time I switched on the TV, till the components could get "warm enough" I guess, there would be red shadows all over screen.

Now the situation is that the RED color does not go away even if the TV is ON for 2-3 hrs. Needless to say, this is happening for all inputs - cable, component AV, HDMI. I tried resetting it to Factory settings, no improvement

I went to service menu and amazingly, the picture was perfect as soon as I entered service menu! All test patterns good, all colors sharp, no distortions, no shadows, no RED color all over! As soon as I exit service menu, the RED color is again omni-present.

I have searched all over internet, but could not figure out the probable cause. Can anyone please help me know what could have gone wrong?

I am pasting an image of what it looks like -

Thinking of selling my 67 on craigslist and getting a 73" Mitsu that Best buy has for a great price today ( under 700 )

Never had any issues w/ mine, but getting nervous about issues that others are having.

Any thoughts?

Feeth, just because others have had problems doesnt mean you will. My set now is a few weeks away from being a full 3 years old, and i am retired and give the set a ton of use, and its been 100% perfect. I wouldnt get rid of it just because it MIGHT have a problem, but thats just my opinion.

Trade a set with no issues for one that the reliability is unknown? Is the 73" Mitsu LED or bulb?

If I were going big again, LED LCD or plasma all the way...never going rear projection with bulbs...the cost of the non-RP sets have come down enough to make it comparable to what I paid for my Sammy when new.

I don't want RP again because of the dust inside issue that comes up in a couple years...I want a sealed screen
