Hello-
I am trying to connect my new PS3 to my Pioneer VSX-1016 via HDMI, but I'm having trouble getting video to display.
I currently have the 1016 connected to my television via an HDMI to DVI cable. My satellite receiver is connected to the 1016 via an HDMI cable, and the 1016 is connected to the TV via HDMI to DVI. This works perfectly, and I've had no problems with this setup for several months.
Today I purchased a PS3 and wanted to utilize the HDMI switching of the 1016 for connecting it to the TV. I connected the PS3 to the 1016 via HDMI (and optical for audio as the 1016 doesn't support audio via the HDMI connection). I configured the inputs accordingly on the 1016 and turned on everything. I got no picture and no sound. I fiddled with options on the 1016 for a bit, then decided to ensure the PS3 was working and simply used the included composite cable and connected it directly to the TV. I got picture and audio, and configured the PS3 to use HDMI. Again, no picture. Sound worked after configuring the PS3 to use the optical connection.
After a few hours of messing around with it (including buying a new HDMI cable to ensure the old one wasn't bad), I ended up taking the HDMI to DVI cable from the 1016 and using it directly with the PS3. So now the PS3 was connected directly to the TV via HDMI to the TV's DVI connection. This worked perfectly, and the PS3 automatically configured the connection to use 1080i (my TV doesn't support 1080p). I was happy!
Now that the PS3 had the connection configured, I again tried to use the 1016 as an HDMI passthrough, and again I had no luck.
Has anyone had any similar experience with a PS3 when using HDMI passthrough on a receiver? I'm not sure why this would fail, but I'm slowly going a bit crazy trying to get it to work.
Any tips, suggestions, etc, are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
