I hooked the HDMI cable from the Playstation 3 into the "DVD IN1" of my A/V receiver. Then, a HDMI cable from the A/V receiver "HDMI OUT" to the TV. Currently, the Playstation 3 audio and video cuts in and out "randomly" and goes black and then comes back. This occurs when I'm playing a DVD, a game or whatching a slideshow of my jpg's. I installed the most current 2.10 system on the Playstation 3. The A/V receiver is a Yamaha RX-V661 and I'd like to have the HDMI into the A/V so I can get the sound from the Blueray and games on my surround system. Is there an incompatablity issue that I should know about? Any other things that could be causing this?

The HDMI from the PS3 should be plugged into the HDMI IN Port on the AVR. Then from the AVR HDMI Out to the TV HDMI IN. If you have this done and still have issues it could be what is called "Handshake" where the AVR is not processing / transfering the signal correctly. I would post over in the PS3 thread in the BluRay area. Good luck. Later.

You should also try plugging the HDMI cable directly from the PS3 to the TV. This will let you know if the receiver is the device giving you handshaking problems.

Thanks for the input.

I've had the PS3 HDMI cable directly to the TV and no problems - works fine (just none of the audio benefits of having it go through the AVR).

I even went out and bought new HDMI cables (thinking that my others were 'bad')

Is there anyway to fix these handshaking problems - or - is it just that this particular AVR doesn't like the PS3? The AVR manual says it is good for 1080p signal transmission and it's based on HDMI version 1.2a.

hmmm... not sure if it's true with that particular avr, but there have been numerous reports of avr's that are "spec-ed" as passing 1080p, but struggle with it in reality...

have you tried setting your ps3 output to 1080i and see what happens?

Any updates on this? I am having the same problem.

I have set my ps3 to 1080i and just went as low as 720p or lower and it still causes an issue. I have had random times when it plays a full 2 hour Blue ray movie.. and then times where i cant watch a movie for longer then 5 minutes.. I really have no clue. (I also went and spent 150$ on 2 new cables with no fix)

Any updates on this being fixed or any ideas of what could be the problem?

I would go to the Amps and Receiver forum and see if you can find the owner's thread for your receiver. You'll get more help there.
