I have been a playstation owner all my life. Love it dearly however I have an itch for more games and I hear a lot of good things about some xbox 360 games.

I went all out and got a 360 Elite on amazon with the 2 game deal yesturday. I also used the Dell $25 off coupons(like 8 of them) and picked up 2 years of xbox gold live, extra controller, battery packs, messenger.

I rarely if ever buy games though. I use gamefly almost exclusively with a 4 out plan.

Any tips for a first time xbox 360 owner. Also looking for game suggestions to add to my queue.

So far I have Halo 3 and Mass Effect in my queue.

I enjoyed Bioshock and COD4 if you havent played it through on your PS3. Also Gears of War is a must buy!

Welcome to the dual owners club... I sometimes turn on my PS3 when I want to watch a blu-ray movie but thats about it.

Welcome to some of the best console gaming on earth!!! (aside from Uncharted, R&C,Heavenly Sword and Warhawk on PS3)

Must Play:

Bioshock
Call of Duty 4 (If you dont already have it for PS3)
The Darkness (Ditto what I said above)
Orange Box (360 version less buggy than PS3)
Eternal Sonata (If you're into JRPG's)
Condemned (Probably find it for around 20 bucks, so buy this one)
Crackdown (Same. Buy it cuz its SUPER fun and addictive)

Im sure I missed some, but others will fill you in as well.

Youve got a lot of gaming to catch up on.:)

Sounds like you got a great deal. I had a similar feeling about PS. I went from SNES to the original PS. I'm really loving my elite. That's about all I play aside from Friday night gaming on the PS3 with TWW.

The games you listed plus:

crackdown
cod 4
rainbow 6 vegas

You'll really enjoy the online interface at your disposal with the 360. Don't forget to rip some music to the HDD or stream it to the 360 for ingame custom music.

What's your plan for online gaming? Will you use wired or wireless? I can't recall from your previous threads. I tried a gaming adapter then went with a Buffalo Wireless ethernet converter for online gaming. I hooked up both the PS3 and 360 to that bridge.

Add Gears of War, Crackdown, and Bioshock to your list immediately.

However, don''t get caught up too much in trying to play catchup. Many of these games (Crackdown, Gears, and Halo in particular) are best enjoyed when you put some time into them.

Already have COD4 for PS3.

I don't believe in wireless for anything you need reliable connection on. I always do wired cat6 for consoles.

Then you must also play Dead Rising. 5 million ways to kill 10 million zombies. Very frustrating at first, but it grows on you. Recommended! :)

Someone recommended Eternal Sonata earlier in the thread... for what its worth, it will also be ported to PS3 with extra playable characters, missions and new outfits and is supposed to come out this Spring...

I'm also a dual owner and avid RPG fan, this info was enough for me to wait it out on ES and get it once it comes out for PS3...

Lost Odyssey comes out next month and I can't wait for that... its a must buy for a JRPG fan...

It sounds like this is a title you are looking forward to playing, so I'd go ahead and leave it in your queue. It truly is a top notch JRPG with a cool battle system.
I haven't seen anything regarding when this game will be released on the PS3 and, IMO, new costumes and 2 new playable characters do not warrant the wait.

And Saints Row, as Deedub mentioned, is a great GTA style game, that actually does jstice to the genre.

I agree, 2 characters and costumes aren't worth it, what is worth it, to me anyway, are the extended story and missions. Apparently, the extra missions will further flesh out the story which is always a plus in my book...

Also, the reason I am waiting is because I don't actually have too much time to game nowadays, as well as already having quite a backlog as it is (I still haven't had the chance to even open my copy of God of War II yet!) so I don't mind waiting for this one...

Honestly though, if you're going to pick up an RPG that isn't Mass Effect, wait til the first week of February and get Lost Odyssey instead, it was created by the same team (Sakaguchi and Uematsu) that has spear headed every Final Fantasy game up until FF IX...

IMO, I would pick this up on PS3 as the PS3 version has all the DLC already included on disk, so you don't have to pay extra for it...

If you like racing games, definitely check out Forza II and PGR4... I had a great time this summer with PGR4 and the PS3 is definitely lacking right now in the racing dept. (Until GT5P comes out in NA anway!)

PGR3 is 13.99$ at frys. I look for good deals. I think everyone above has already mentioned most everything.
But here is my short list of favorites:
Bioshock
cod4
halo3
Mass effect
Madden 08
mx vs atv untamed (I just like racers)

i would just stick with the exclusives like GOW, Halo3, Bioshock, etc. They seem to run better on the 360(you think?!?).
multiplatform games i usually get on the ps3 because i am used to it and the dependability is rock solid.
welcome to the multiconsole world, being able to play all of the exclusives like warhawk, halo3, uncharted, GOW is fantastic!

Congrats on owning what is IMO the best gaming system out at this time (and yes, I have played the "other" gaming machine!) On the flip side, I am also about to get a PS3 (I'm just waiting on a good deal). I want it for Blu Ray purposes though. Although they are suppose to be getting some pretty good exclusive games this year. Anyhow, here is the list of must buy's (or rent) games for the X360 IMO (and yes they are in my order order of best to "great"):

Gears of War
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Halo 3
GRAW 2
Rainbow 6 Vegas
Oblivion

There are plenty more great games for the X360 but I just named my few favorites.

Now, an OT question. Does anyone know what the game thats coming out on the PS3 thats about being able to choose between being a good super hero and being a bad super villain called? I watched E3 in the summer and I remember that it really interested me when I heard them talk about this particular game. Anyone? Thanks guys.

Guys my receiever is out of HDMI jacks. I am planning on just using component and optical to my receiver which will convert it to hdmi to go to my tv. Will I get any better picture or audio using hdmi instead? Otherwise I COULD use the hdmi from my directv pvr and use the component and optical with that instead but I'd rather not rewire everything if I don't need to.

Yes there is. Reliability and speed. If you do any kind of streaming your not going to get anywhere near the bandwidth you would if you hard wire vs wireless.

I have never seen a wireless device in my life that doesn't have occassional loss of connectivity or interference problems. WHen I am gaming I never want to take the chance that I am performing subpar or could get disconnected.

I am sure that you will have people that say, "I have gamed wirelessly my whole life," however being a network admin I would never use wireless when I needed a constant reliable connection.

I loved LP! I played it with my friends for a couple of months. I however would only recommend it for a good deal (not the $59.95 MSRP price). It is fun and very different from what you will typically get as far as shooters go. Not the best shooter out............but fun. I rate it about 8.5 out of 10.

Tried it and I'm still not sure. Like I said earlier, I am getting a PS3 so quite frankly it does not matter as I know that I will find out eventually. I been keeping a close watch on it ever since I watched the E3 show earlier this Summer. I am a huge "super hero" fan of all genres (moreso Superman, hence why I have tattoo's all over my body of Superman.). I remember that when I heard of this game during E3 I remember thinking that this game is the reason of why I am going to get a PS3. Thanks for your help though :)

Right. Because YOU'RE the one exposed to five TV lines, two projector lines, and four iterations of scaling and HDMI switching on a daily basis.

Any tips for a first time xbox 360 owner.

Do yourself a favor and don't get too wrapped up in your gamerscore. Enjoy the great stories, and gameplay. The achievements are a very cool feature, but before you know it you'll be playing solely for points. IMO, it's much more fun to play my way (realistically, why would I ever use a pistol when I'm carrying an assault rifle?), instead of doing something for the purpose of a few points for others to see. As a matter of fact, block your score from being seen, and you won't worry at all about the points. And, you'll enjoy the experiences on the 360 alot more.

Bingo! Thank god someone else said this. When I first got my 360 I was a gamerscore whore. However, my hard drive crashed and I couldn't recover it online. Needless to say from that day forward, I decided I was just going to play for fun and I have never been happier. Crackdown is so much more fun when you are not endlessly searching for that 500th agility orb.

I just got those as my first two PS3 games for Christmas ; ) I havent played them much yet though because Im still going through COD4 veteran and Assassin's Creed on my 360.

Anyways, as others have mentioned, the shooters are where the 360 really shines but there are also tons of other games. I dont know how many games exactly you are looking for, but between Halo 3 which you already have, Mass Effect, Gears of War (you HAVE to play this...go through it and try and beat it on insane its quite an experience) and maybe one of the racing games like Forza or PGR3, you will have enough to keep you busy for months.

There are times when this is true, however there are also times when I think going for those achievements really adds to the replay value and the experience. I'll give examples of both:

Times when its bad: I have been playing Assassin's Creed, and its really gotten quite boring going for all the flags and templars just for the achievements, so I have stopped and am having more fun just playing the game.

Times when its a blast: Halo 3 single player points, games on their most difficult setting (Example, Halo 3 COD4 COD2 and Gears I went through on both the hard settings then the most difficult afterwards).

I dont like multiplayer based achievements that much though. I really think Infinity Ward has it perfect with the Call of Duty series.

01-07-08, 09:33 PM
I hope you guys are kidding.. Achievements are the only things that make the game worth playing after youve beat it. Crackdown? Would be BORING as all heck without achievements after you beat the main story. I think Assassin's Creed is another one of those games.

Theres a reason PS3 owners want achievements...

deedubbadoo
01-08-08, 10:56 AM
I can pick up Crackdown and run around crazy doing whatever I want for an hour and not get bored. This is true with any sandbox style of game. Once I beat a game though I have others that I am interested in playing just as much so chasing down flags or orbs, or anything like that just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I hear you on the AC, but I wish they would've added a tone like in Crackdown when you are close to a flag. The glitchiness of the flag is good but not enough. I have about 496 orbs in Crackdown and it pisses me off to this day!

And I wish CoD4 had *some* multi achievements. R6 Vegas and Halo 3 have great multi achievements. Gears of War would if you could get them in unranked games. The ranked game system in GoW was miserable.

I really like gamerscore and many PS3 games have them unofficially, which is good enough for me. I don't need to show off my crappy score (something like 6300), I just like it because it gives you an incentive to do stuff in game I wouldn't otherwise.
