I'm just wondering if anyone here has a Pio 5080 that they use with a PS3 for BR/Games. The PS3 can get funny with converting resolutions, correct? Like not accepting a 1080p signal and instead turning it into a 480p signal. Not sure if thats true, but I heard that on another PS3 forum.
Just looking for feedback, since if I do get a 5080 I will definitely have to pick up a PS3 shortly after.

I have a 5070 and it plays brilliantly. I wouldn't imagine that the 5080 would be any different. I was going to get a Kuro and throw the 5070 in the bedroom, but I think I'm going to hold out for one of these: http://gizmodo.com/341431/pioneer-9mm+thin-concept-plasma-ogled-from-all-angles

My PS3 and Pio 5080 play very nicely together. Using the HDMI I have not found any issues. The Pio accepts 1080p even though it is really 720p. I know it is receiving 1080p as the display indicates that it is.
The only drawback is the threat of image retention. I have been very careful, however on Christmas Eve my daughter paused a game for about an hour and it retained the white letterings. It took a few days before it completely disappeared, so now I have the orbiter turned on and have trained her to turn off the TV anytime she pauses the game...

I've only had image retention after playing God Of War on it and that disappeared within a few minutes of Discovery HD Theater. I broke mine in for over 100 hours before gaming on it, for whatever that is worth. I've had all types of HD sets and plasma is absolutely the best experience I have had.

Would it be better to get a 5080 now or wait for the Panasonic 800 series? The only thing I would really care about w/ the Panny would be the 1080p. I'm sure the Kuro would have better PQ, but do you feel that 1080p should really be a necessity with PS3 games and BR movies?

If you're asking me you're asking the wrong guy. I'm a firm believer in many other aspects of HD viewing that rank higher than resolution in my book. Contrast ratio, black levels, viewing distance, etc., all come into play before resolution. I have the 50" Pioneer plasma and had 2 1080p sets previous. The viewing distance in my living room (about 8 feet) doesn't make a 1080p set a priority at the screen size I've got. It's the popular opinion that the Kuro is the best television you can buy right now and I'm inclined to agree. But with what Pioneer unveiled at CES today, I won't be buying anything until their extreme black sets hit the retail floor.
