I'm using the iPod Touch as a smart remote in my home theater. By leveraging the web server built in to Cinemar ML server and the Safari web server built in to the iPod touch you get a smart remote that can execute the macro (Commands Map) on the ML server.

Cinemar provided some great HTML & JavaScript(Ajax) examples. And with a few minor changes I had these version one web pages up and running on the iPod Touch.

The Main page, the top button is a one touch button to start the entire Home Theater. IS do everything turns on the projector, select the correct input, turn on the sound processor, etc....

Greg,

Looking good. Dave has taken the lead on the iPhone/iTouch project so I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Looks like I'm gonna have to pick up an iTouch soon for development. :)

Lucky you, it will be tax deductible as a business expense.

I'm very surprised there is not more interest in using the iPod touch.

Greg - are you using the iPhone with a Russound Whole House System? If so, have you developed the screens for it?

Right now I'm just using it to control the home theater. I have started to do some simper TCP/IP stuff with roku. but I ran in to a problem getting the IPod AJAX to update the screen. I can get the ML server values to display but they do not update on a button click.

I'm also look at adding an IP based Thermostat (Proliphix) and controlling it through MLserver.

Right now for the theater I'm doing the following:
1. NEC switcher using RS232
2. Neothings switch using RS232
3. PCS multi channel x10 lighting using RS232 and sLinke
4. LG High Def DVD player IR control
5. Sony Es Sound processor IR control
6. Sony Std def DVD player IR control
7. Sony HD and Direct TV receiver using IR
8. Roku SoundBridge using TCP/IP control
9. Startgate using RS232

Future
1. IP based Thermostat both in theater and main house (webLobby or 2 way TCP/Ip)
2. Stargate using Homeseer or Starcom (I have been using starComm for several years)
3. Full two way soundbridge control
4. Windows Media Center Extenders version two (waiting for first ship units that are on order)
