I had a good run with my Zenith DVB318 but I am no getting a "no disc" error, which from what I have read is the kiss of death. So I am in the market for a new player, one to keep me up and running until the format war dies down a little on the Hi Def DVD front.

I would love to upconvert over component, like my Zenith, if at all possible. I am hooking this up to a Samsung 32" LCD and all the HDMI ports are spoken for (HD & XBOX). I could get a switch, but the component input is open.

Is there a player around $100 that upconverts via component? If not, is the Sony 77 the best player out there at this price point? The Oppo looks nice, but that might be more player than I need for the next year.

My dad also has one, that has been used all of about 20 times. Anyone interested let me know also.

Did anyone sell their DVB318? Just curious as I've got one to sell and wondering what to list it for.

Play taps and give it the proper disposal that it deserves-you might try to find an LGDVB418 which is basically the same thing with an hdmi port instead of dvi and can be hacked to upconvert through componet also.

The 318 was the best in it's day. I still have 2 and I still like them because of the component factor. But many of the newer and cheaper players do a good job, just not over component.

Hi
Your player is not dead...take it to a technician to clean the pickup assy.

They sell for about $20.00 or so on ebay. I purchased two of these about 8 weeks ago.

If you're looking for a cheap HDMI upconverter, I'd suggest the Panasonic S54. Search this forum for my posts on it.
