OK- I have long supported hddvd because of the less restrictive DRM. I was pretty sure Warner was going to go hddvd exclusive and I was really hoping holiday sales would push hddvd over the edge. And... none of that happened. So I am irritated, but what I really want is one format that has 1080P and lossless audio, with physical media. So now I just want this damn format war to end.
Does anyone think it is possible that:
1. Sony might go to Paramount and buy them out of their exclusivity clause with HD-DVD, essentially paying them what the HDDVD promotions group gave them and paying any damages owed for breaking their exclusivity contract? I think this would end the format war NOW, which would be better for everyone.
2. Sony approaches Toshiba and says, "Look, last chance- we will give you a small cut of royalties for bluray if you abandon HD-DVD now. Don't get greedy. We will both make more money with one unified format of physical media before Apple and microsoft end up owning hte world through digital downloads. And BTW- you got Blurayed! :)"
3. Approaches Walmart, Bestbuy, Target individually or as a group and works out a deal for them to drop HDDVD. Again, I think if any of these stores dropped HD-DVD right now, the format war would be over.
I am irritated that Warner chose Bluray, but hey- I also want Star Wars, LOTR, Indiana Jones, and everything else on 1080p lossless audio formats.
Thoughts anyone?
