....for watching movies. At first after buying a ps3 I was glad there was an option for a more traditional remote but I'm glad I never picked one up. I didnt realize how cool the sixaxis was until I bought a Toshiba a35. When I wanted to pause a movie on the toshiba or any dvd player for that matter I had to turn on the lights for this simple task. I didnt know which button to press. With the ps3 sixaxis all the control for play,pause,ff,rew,etc.. is right there with no guess work and no light needed. Plus all the other endless functions that are available through a couple more button presses. Now obviosly this will be easier for those that are already acclumated to the sixaxis but you have to admit it's stupid easy to learn.

I dont understand why this post was moved to the gaming section. It has nothing to do with gaming. It's all about the ps3 controller and it's use for the blu ray player. ???

I've started to warm to the SIXAXIS controller as a remote control for Blu-ray also. I like some of the mappings like ff/rew on the trigger buttons - not to mention the square button skipping through all promos at the start of a disc. I still get confused from time to time using the OSD via the triangle button but the functionality located in that menu is great.

I see a lot of people complain about using a game machine for movies in other parts of this forum and I really don't get it. I tossed my old DVD player into the closet a few months ago to make room in my TV stand and haven't missed it one bit. I'll admit not having kids probably gives me a different perspective on things though...

The only thing Sony hasn't sold me on with the PS3 is using it for downloaded media. My experience was too hit and miss in that regard, so I built a HTPC and life is good.

+1 for using sixaxis to control movies. X or Start pauses movie. I always use the SELECT to see the bitrates.

The only thing I hate is how Disney screwed up what should be the standard controls for watching movies. They switched the pause and start button around so that sometimes as you FF you get confused and it keeps going. Other than that, I love my Blue tooth Dualshock3 as a remote.

I agree completely with this. I havent bought a regular blu-ray remote for this reason. Its easy to navigate, pause and start movies, back out to the menu, and the best thing is you just hit the triangle and go to AV settings for quickly changing from Linear PCM to Bitstream (Something I do quite often depending on the movie).

i only have two problems with the sixaxis controller:

1: sometimes I am afraid I'm going to crush it
2: sometimes if I'm watching a movie, I'll breath on it and suddenly chapters whiz by, or the movie is rewinding at 10x. The trigger buttons are so damn touchy.

EDIT: I should add that I bought a Blu-ray remote, but I never use the thing.

If the sixaxis ran all my other gear like the harmony 880,I would gladly use it as a primary remote. The situation being the exact opposite, I had to jump a hoop or two to drive my PS3 with my harmony.
