Been tinkering with an effective way to get cool air to run over my equipment under my screen and in other installations. Found a few quite and powerful fans that I simply hookup to the theaters power center/amp so when it clicks on so do the fans. Have been mounting fans inside cabinetry blowing air out of cabinetry either into room or, in my own theaters case, into a void behind the wall. I am getting more requests for system cooling and my way seems pretty rinky-dinky..Any other solutions?
here is my own setup..(just added a PS3 which gets very hot)

The black fabric (see below) ends up filtering the air that gets sucked into
the niche by the two fans I have mounted inside and gets filthy within a week...also when the fans are not on, air actually blows out of them in the opposite direction spinning the fans and dropping dust
back into the niche..

Do any of your boxes have USB ports? (e.g. a cable box is likely to have some). If so, you could purchase some USB powered fans and hook them up inside. I think the biggest problem though is that no matter how many fans you have, the equipment is getting poor ventilation with the cabinet doors closed.

is there any possible way vents, with some form of attractive covers, could be cut in the sides of the a/v "bump out" . If you could get air in from one side and direct all fans to exhaust out the other side, you would ensure a positive air flow across the electronics. Recirculating the hot air won't help much, if you can't get a steady supply of cooler room air.

waylonrobert,
It was tough enough finding powerful and quiet fans to begin with...adding USB would make it a nearly impossible find and not really helpful in my case...thanks you though.

Great idea...could take in air from the right side (from in the room), and blow out the left side (behind that door is my garage)..wil, have to figure oout how to make it look nice..

Very quiet and powerful. I ordered mine from KK Audio.
