View Full Version : Problems with 60gb?

I keep hearing of people having problems with 60gb PS3s like disc drives dying, HDMI ports breaking, and apparently sync issues with the Sixaxis aren't a problem on the 80gb and 40gb PS3s.

Being that I got a 60gb for Christmas should I be worried it's gonna crap out on me? Are these common occurrences? Are the sync issues really limited to the 20gb and 60gb models?

I know there's nothing I can really do about it but it would be nice to have my mind put at ease.

I have a 20 and a 60 that are fine. I figure you would hear more issues over time with those first as they are just older.

It doesn't seem to be any issues to be worried about overall.

I've got a 60gb model that I've had for over a year and it's still working flawlessly. I've heard these same things as well and at this time I'm not going to worry about it.

Of course if after I hit submit on this message and something goes wrong...then you owe me a new PS3. :D

Haha, sure just gimme your Paypal and I'll get the money to you as soon as hell freezes over.

Ok, well I guess I won't worry to much about it.

What about the sync issues though, is that really only a problem with the 20gb and 60gb models?

My answer was in respons to all your concerns:

"disc drives dying, HDMI ports breaking, and apparently sync issues with the Sixaxis"

I have experienced none of the above. I will (however) let you know that my PS3 usage has been primarily Blu-ray watching. I am also going to purchase another PS3 (40gb) as a DVD player (both Blu and standard) for my bedroom system...the 60gb is in my theater.

I've had some controller sync issues, but nothing major. From what I understand, the new DS3's don't experience the same problem. I'll be getting a couple of those soon.

I have an original 60 and I have been having sync issues since I've had it where it loses connection for a few seconds( and I have been killed more than once playing COD4 online because of sync issues). I saw a thread somewhere that people that were having sync issues where having no sync issues with the dual shock 3.

i have some controller sync issues as well. just a couple of seconds maybe two or three times out of a four or five game session. not really worth complaining about.

other than the minor controller issue, my ps3 will freeze every now and then. first time it happened when i placed it vertically with nfs: carbon. it would freeze every 10-15 minutes. i placed it back horizontally and it was remedied. my ps3 still locks up every now and then, i would like to say maybe once or twice a week. my ps3 is on almost 24/7 (folding @ home) when i'm not gaming or just playing around in the xmb.

Alright cool, I just ordered a DS3 no more than 2 minutes ago so I guess I'll be fine. Thanks for putting my mind at ease gentlemen :)

+1 with occasional sync issue with original Sixaxis. But I imported the DualShock3 and haven't had a controller sync issue once with it.

1 question to all of you that have had sync issues, do you also have x360s??? ive heard a bit that most people that have they sync issues have x360s also. ive heard that the controllers interfere. just wondering if theres any truth to this.

Not possible, the PS3 uses Bluetooth, not sure what the 360 uses but it's not Bluetooth.

Yes, have a 360 and yes had sync issue w/ original sixaxis... but I'm skeptical that's the problem.

Source?

I had sync issues before I had an xbox.

ive seen it on a few other forums and when I worked at wal mart they had the 360 off becase that said it interfered with something, what I honestly have no idea. other than that I have no sources, thats why I was wondering if it was true or not.
also the fact that the ps3 uses bluetooth and the 360 is wireless it wouldnt make sense that there would be a problem. I think that this may be one of the reasons that sony went with bluetooth, to cut down on possible interfrence.

I've had a 60gig for over six months and no problems whatsoever. I put it to pretty extensive use daily via HDMI for DVDs, streamed music, BD-Rs, PS2 games, and PS3 games. No sync issues, no drive issues, no lock-ups (other than in Assassin's Creed), no HDMI problems.

Now, excuse me while I go knock loudly on some wood and throw some salt over my shoulder.

NFS:Carbon was notorious for freezing up. I have had some other games freeze on me but nothing major. I go 4-5 hours of gaming sometimes with no problems and I've had other times where it will be ten minutes into a game and it would freeze. Mostly just Madden and NFS. I've heard that sometimes the constant connection to the network can cause freezing even if you are not currently playing a game online.

I'm not concerned it has been a great machine. Had sync problems three times over the year I've had the system.

I have a 60 gig I got last December.
