I thought it'd be helpful to have a one-page cheat sheet both for those of us keeping track of developments in our favorite HDM format(s) and those trying to make up their minds about whether or not to jump in the pool.

Assuming this is OK with the mods, can people please add info on what's missing here (provide verifiable links)? I'll keep this top post updated as necessary.

This thread is not for announced alliances, break-ups, sales figures, etc.

The list is currently heavy on Blu-ray products, so please add any HD DVD info that's out there.

This is, in effect, a cheat sheet for everything that should be in that thread. I don't think it makes sense to embed it in the thread itself. It's another matter if the mods think it shouldn't exist at all.

The Samsung 5500 player is dual-format, not HD DVD, and should be separated out. Also, you include the Toshiba HD DVD laptop, but not any of the Blu-ray laptops and desktops that Sony announced.

Well, I listed the Samsung in both HD DVD and Blu-ray sections instead of making something separate. As for the laptop... I just couldn't find any other HD DVD announcements and was trying not to make that section look completely empty.

He listed it for both formats - as it should be.

OP . . nice job . . kudo's:)

So where are all of the rumored Chinese players, for both sides?

Toshiba paid the Chinese BD manufacturers $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to not produce any.

Sony paid the same manufactures $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 not to produce any HD DVD players.:D

Now that's funny (the link gets a 404) :D (yes, I'm aware it's on sale = they actually released it)

Really it was just a crack about Fox's releases in general.

You're right! There's gotta be a way to make a link straight to a specific product on Amazon, but I couldn't get it to work.

You're right! There's gotta be a way to make a link straight to a specific product on Amazon, but I couldn't get it to work.Take out everything after the Amazon ID (the 10 letters and number series). Like so:

www DOT amazon DOT com SLASH Man-Fire-Blu-ray-Denzel-Washington SLASH dp SLASH B000XSWVFQ<--Amazon ID

which should give the proper link:

www.amazon.com/Man-Fire-Blu-ray-Denzel-Washington/dp/B000XSWVFQ

Sad for HD DVD though. 1 Dual format player, 1 computer and a couple of rewriteable discs.

But good work OP. The Dual format player isnt too expensive. maybe if it gets to $400... it would be a good opportunity for current HDDVD owners to move to BD.

I would exclude computer hardware and R/W media from the list as both have very little to do with watching movies. The dual format player could be argued either way.

Ignoring BD & DF for the moment, the HD-DVD group has announced no new HT related products for this year's CES. That suggests to me that it won't be around for next years CES.

Part of my reason for compiling the list was to help gauge overall support for both formats.

I think the current one (5000) is being discontinued earlier than was previously planned. With the next one (5500?) coming out shortly after that.
