what should I do with this thing? :o)

Never was interested in satellite radio before, was a surprise gift - what have I been missing? I haven't even unboxed it yet... somewhat afraid of the monthly cost...

help!

I'd hook it up and see if you like it. You can try it out for $12.95 a month and if you like it then switch to a 1 year sub for $143 and save a few bucks. Hooking it up in your car is fairly easy - you can likely get decent reception with the antenna in the front window (i.e. I wouldn't worry about a roof mount for now) and give it a try.

Depends on what you like, but Sirius offers commercial free music, Howard Stern, lots of talk radio options and good sports coverage. I never listen to local radio anymore when I have access to Sirius.

If you're in the car much, it's worth trying it out to see how you like it...

I felt the same way as you on Christmas 2006. My parents bought me a radio and I thought it was such a waste. I only had a 15 minute drive to work. Thankfully, they also bought me a year subscription, so I had nothing to lose.

I decided to put it in my home and only move it to the car on road trips. I got hooked. My radio is on all day. The wife listens at home to music. I come home and record 4 hours of Howard every night to listen to at work the next day. I love NFL Radio, and prefer their Tailgate Show to any Sunday morning NFL TV show. I use it for music when I work around the house or lift weights. And at night, when nothing is on TV, I get much more entertainment tuning in Ferrall or Bubba or NFL and getting other things done, erather than sitting in front of the idiot box watching some rerun.

So....

Try it for 3 months. You'll love it. And if not, sell the radio on ebay.

hmm - maybe I'll give it a shot... how/where do you guys mount this in your vehicle? any recommendations?

I just ordered a mount for a new Garmin I purchased from http://www.proclipusa.com - it comes with a base mount for the car, and then there's a mount per device

Power - I bought an extra 12v outlet from Radio Shack (about $8), and tapped that into the fuse box, then plugged the Sirius-supplied Cigarette Lighter adapter into that.

Sirius antenna - Put on the roof of the car above the passenger side windshield. Then, I ran the cord under the car's weather stripping and to my Sirius radio.

Connection to car stereo - I bought the FM Direct Adapter, and installed it behind the dash. I could then use the Sirius's radio FM modulator.

Mounting - With the vehicle kit, you should have all the mounting hardware you'll need. I have mine clipped onto the vent in my car, as there isn't a really a good place to mount it on the dash itself.
