I replaced the IC's a while back and while poking around in the menus before I figured the IC's were toast I somehow farged things up.

I downloaded the manual and thought what I needed was to adjust the convergence but what ever I seem to try from that screen doesn't get it right.
Here's pic and if you look at the top and bottom left I can never seem to straighten it out and also the screen isn't even on both sides. What should I be doing to fix this? I gotten into the convergence menus and can get the grid and adjust the colors but I can't straighten or move the grid.

Also from what I've been reading I'll need a template to get things lined up. Where can I get a template? I also read soething about "clearing the ROM" but I couldn't find anything about that subject.

You want to square the green first then match the red up then match the blue. Don't necessarily need the template or clear the rom.

Thanks for the info. I've been getting a little further each night. :) Got a question about clearing the rom. If its cleared and I've saved it before does it realign the grid?

Are templates downloadable anywhere?

Clearing the rom should only be done if you get certain errors during magic focus. It will make it like there is no convergence adjustments at all. Then you can start from scratch. I've never had to do it, but if you do it then you would need a template for sure. Templates can be purchased from hitachi and I think they are like $100 or more.

$100
I guess the part that has me scratching my head is when I try to even out the top and bottom lines it isn't paralel with the other upper and lower lines. Its like the whole screen is cocked slightly.

Make your own grid with string + tape. Cover the red & blue lenses and square the green.

While neither of these are the correct size, they are the correct grid "shape"/relative dimensions, I believe....

Hitachi F59 Tweaks thread post w/ screen jigs (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9567850#post9567850)

A Hitachi owner posted these last year on the F59 (2006 Hitachi CRT RPTVs) Tweaks thread. They are downloadable .pdfs for that series' 51/57/65" sets.

I own a 51" & my last set was a Hitahci 43UWX10B. As far as I know, the DCAM grid for both series are the same. DCAM (service level convergence) mode operations are pretty much identical. Just different remote commands btwn the 2.

The F59 screen jig .pdfs can be taken to a Kinkos or other print shop w/ AutoCAD. Can be ran off full scale on either transparent mylar (not cheap, I'm told) or translucent vellum.

If you or someone you know can tweak the dimensions to account for your 53" screen (blow up the 51 or shrink the 57"), you might be in business for a lot less $. A 51" vellum jig ran me less than $20 via Kinko's.

The images, BTW, were apparently created using the images/dimensions from the Hitachi F59 service manual as well as their "Pocket Convergence Guide" issued to service centers in 2003 (and your model is covered in that).

The posts near the one linked also have a breakdown of using the jig to realign things to factory specs (includes wiping DCAM memory, redoing grid from uncorrected state as well as dialing in correct horiz/vert size voltages---only an issue if you ever reduced overscan on this TV).

Thanks, I saw those the other day but didn't think of resizing them. We've got a plotter at work. I'll grab the manual and see if I can do a resize. :)
