I am getting very close to pulling the trigger on the Panny TH-50PH10UKA, as it has dropped to $1,405 at VA in the past week. I need simple advice on some things:

1) Is this a solid upgrade (I've had a Panny PWD6UY ED set for a few years and am looking to make the move to DirecTV HD)?
2) Would it behoove me to wait another couple months, price-wise (i.e. do trends dictate that it would drop even more w/release of '08 models on the horizon?)
3) Do you think the '08 Pannys are worth waiting on (how are they expected to compare to the 10UKA both in quality and price)?

Just looking for some thoughts....thanks!

WOW...Another 6UY viewer! Still one of my FAV panels (now in the bedroom)!

I set up the 10UK for my boss and had it in my home for a few days. It certainly will be an improvement from the 6UY. Had them both next to each other. Although I thought the 10uK was a tad dimmer. A function of size and resolution.

I like the commercial Panny's quite a bit....however...have not been overly fond of the recent years processing. My latest few panels have been Pioneer's.

The recently announced Panasonic 800/850 series seems to be rather nice. Will not come close to the pricing of the 10UK. If you are willing to pay double and wait a few months(April or thereabouts) then it might be worthy of waiting as these new panels seem to have alot to be finally excited about from Panasonic. Of course these will be 1080p panels to boot.

If staying with a 720p panel - then I think the 10UK is the ticket. I do not see anything in the new 720p panels that would get me super excited. (IMHO of course)

Either way I assure you ....the 10UK will be an improvement over the 6UY.

The professional (broadcast) Panasonic plasmas don't usually drop much in price, usually only right before a new one comes out. If that's the TV you want. Go for it. The 10th generation are still pretty new. Probably won't see any new professional series ones until the end of next year or beyond, unless something big happens.
