I'm in the market to buy another television preferrably a 60" or so rear projection. One feature that I've always loved is PIP especially from two different sources. It's not so important for me with television viewing since my Dish Network receiver gives me that ability. But I would like to watch a football game on my satellite while playing my 360 on a split screen.

Does anyone know of any televisions with this capability?

not sure if they still do... but check out the Samsungs. Some of their models used to. The sony's used to at one point, but I haven't seen it in awhile. You are very limited to only a few brands with RPTVs. Just beware that any new TV that does do PIP will be limited to certain inputs. Check out the downloadable manuals for each TV you find. There's usually a chart in them that shows which inputs can be shown together at the same time. Some TVs will only do Digital input PIP.

That's what I do now with my Hitachi 51F59 only I run the ball games in an actual pip window rather than split screen. I don't lose the aspect ratio of either source that way.

I dont think my tosh 65" has PIP, but the SA 8240hdc cablebox does. I think I used it once.

My Samsung 6189 has PIP...but you can only put basic cable in the small box.

My old Mitzi had the split screen from any source...I miss that.

You can at least (I'm not sure about PPV) watch the premium tier programming (HD channels, HBO, Digital Video Recordings, etc) in the PIP screen! :D

Just have it stream out the S-VIDEO port of your STB to be used as a source signal to your PIP screen. You'll have to enable the S-VIDEO output source in your STB settings to supply the video to the TV's S-VIDEO input source for the PIP. This does not disable video signals coming out the component and HDMI outputs. So, not only will you be able to watch 1080i HD content full screen with PIP at 480i quality, conversley, you'll be able to watch basic cable at full screen (you'll change basic cable channels with your HDTV remote control ) and view, at 480i, HBO or HD channels in the PIP (you'll change channels in the PIP screen with your STB remote control). This is accomplished by swapping source input using your TV's remote control (this button is sometimes called TV/VIDEO) .

For example, I use my PC to browse the web on my 50" RPTV while watching HBO through my Hauppauge HVR1600 (it has an S-VIDEO input port) in a resizable window on the Desktop. If a program reminder comes on (in the PIP screen) saying National Geographic HD will start shortly, I simply toggle my remote control's TV/VIDEO button to switch my 1080i source to component input and watch it at full screen.

Because PIP is offered by the digital satellite providers and by some cable providers. There is no reason to raise the cost of a set. Already, were seeing good sets available in the $2500-$3500 price range.

As I recall, aren't dual tuners needed for satellite STB's because they are needed to allow independant channel selections for an additional TV in a second room anyway or for use as a DVR STB? Doesn't a satellite provider still gives the option for only single tuner STB's? I believe my cable provider's STB's are single tuner units unless I request a DVR STB.

But you're right that you shouldn't be charged for a dual tuner STB if you don't want a DVR, or in the case of satellite STB's, a second tuner for a second TV, or PIP if your TV lacks that functionality.

Unless I misunderstood the details of your message, are you saying that the newer STB's have the capability to embed a PIP screen in the same video stream? That would be neat. That means I can connect any monitor or TV without the built-in facility for PIP, but use the STB to create and incorporate the PIP in it's video signal. Sweet!
