My DT-500 Lamp just went out at about 1000 hours. It's a $400 lamp. I had a feeling this was gonna happen. I'm going back to CRT. :D

Welcome back, many of us have. I did not have any of the digitals I tried for anywhere near 1000 hours. :-P

A 1000 hrs in about.. what 7 months.
Are you running it while at work? In fact for thsoe high hour guys like you it should last longer with less off/on cycle.

Yeah, I figured it would last longer as well. I was wrong. My X1 did last 2,000 hours in about 2 years though. I was running it for long periods of time even without use.

The sucky thing is. I was getting paranoid it would go out and was planning on selling it.

The unit was very nice though. I'll miss it. I guess I will get my NEC 6PG repaired. It just needs a new C-Drive. I was getting really used to having a picture I could rarely complain about combined with ease of use, compact size and portability. I had been planning on moving up to about 13' diagonal.

I might be able to get you a c-drive for your NEC...I'm going to look at one in the next week. I figure I'll just buy it for the lenses and remote...so a c-drive would be virtually free.

That's high hours? What would my TV with ~20,000 hours in six years be?

It would be about 3,333 hours in a year and 1,667 in 6 months. My pj was basically my tv. There were a handful of times when I lef it on for over 24 hours. Generally it was on for at least 4-5 hours when I turned it on. Lamp strikes are what is supposed to kill it quicker.

It did go on and off a few times during a storm awhile back quickly. Not sure how much of an negative effect that had.

Thanks! I'd appreicate that. I need one. lol. My poor NEC has just been collecting dust for many months now. I only paid $200 total for it, but I didn't get much use out of it. I was very impressed. It does have some burn-in, but it's only noitceable on a bright desktop or a large, solid, bright/light colored area.

I know. You were at ~5 hours per day. Mine in ~9+ per day! I was saying, if you're considered "high hours", what would I be considered? Insane? :D

I probably used mine 3-4 days a week. Sometimes more. It was usually left on for awhile even when not really using it.

It was getting a lot of use for Rock Band on the weekends. :D

Oh goody, pop the champagne! Now that your "coming back" to CRT hopefully we won't have to endure another 40 posts about how great your 480 DLP is.

Hey Tyson, what would you take for the DT-500 with the blown bulb? If you choose not to get it replaced.

I guess it's the sort of thing that you don't realize until you miss it. I've had two workhorse CRT projectors since 2000. They're on usually 3-4 hours a day, almost every day. So I tend to do around 1000-1200 hours/year.

I put 5K hours on the first one and the tubes were as minty white the day I sold it as the day I got it. I saw it again recently (2-3 years later) and it was still running perfectly with minty-white tubes. This was a Barco 800.

I expect my current Barco Cine 8 Onyx to do the same. Had it for a little over 2 years now. So far so good.

I could see spending $200 or so/year on digital bulbs, but not $600+.

My DT-500 is 1280768p. sorry, that still sucks ;) hope you get a nice 8" EM focus so you can come back and tell us what a really good pic is. Like I said before, a 9PGX is probably the biggest bargain out there now at typically below $1K with really nice tubes.

I'm sure the picture will be better on a nice 8" EM focus unit. Not better for gaming with a light on though. No matter how good it is I'm sure I will still be impressed with the DT-500. My DT-500 seemed about on par with a good DLP cinema. I can't complain. The blacks were very good to great 90% of the time.
