I am using the Moome DVI card (purchased 10/2005) with the Toshiba HD-A1 (2.4 Firmware) connected via DVI/HDMI adapter.

Signal Path:
Toshiba DVD-->HDMI Cable (3' feet)-->Adapter(HDMI-to-DVI)-->Sony Switcher-->G70

I spent over 5 hours and searched all the threads here & tried the following with no success...
* A lot of people recommanded that the Toshiba should be turned on last !
* A few recommanded to change the sound setting !
* A handfull indicated that the units should be turned off for a period of time (tried 30 Minutes, with no power to all equipments) !
* Also, I made sure to set the switched on the Moome's card to the DVI & not component.
*** I have not tried this yet, but a few mentioned that the Moome card needs to be upgarded.

Again the issue is the same. The player goes from LOADING--> HDDVD --> PLY --> then you get HDMI ERROR ! I can press the SETUP key and I can see the menu, but the unit will not go pass the PLY. By the way the component section works, but who wants to watch a lower resolution on this type of DVD, you can get a $20 DVD player to do this.

Most of the posts are over a year old, so I am hoping that somebody has found the solution to this. I hate to send the card for upgrade, if it's not going to do anything. Also, I saw a few issues regarding the black level as well.

They really made a mess with this HDMI connector & it's handshake issues. I guess it wasn't bad enough that we had to put up with our PC's all day with MS OS garbage & now we can't even watch a movie & we have to sit & spend time to debug & watch our DVD players to boot. Now, I know why Bill G. liked Toshiba so much & decided to support them & not Sony. He found something in common with these guys.

If your Moome card is that old I think you need to have him do the EDID update. Were you able to dig up any old threads about the older DVI cards and EDID issues? I recall when the HD-A1 came out people started having problems and then he changed something on his card. I don't remember exactly when all this occurred, but I'm pretty sure it was sometime after you bought your card.

Hey, you're local! If you need further help troubleshooting I've got a G70 and a moome DVI card (that works with the HD-A1... and XA2) as well as the moome HDMI card... and a G90. Geez... I've even got one of moome's old external DVI transcoder boxes. I nearly forgot about that one.

But we could drop my DVI card into your G70 and see if it works. That would eliminate every other variable (player, cable, projector settings, etc.).

I have also heard of issues with the adapters causing problems. Apparently some have had better luck with a HDMI to DVI cable

Thanks Mark;

I just got an email from Moome & he recommanded the same thing. I am going to ship the card & have him update it. He is nice enough to do this for us. Also, your are very kind as well to offer your hardware. This is a great community & it's nice to see people like yourself here. I was going to send you a PM with my email address, but I don't see the option here anymore.

I can update the EDID chip for you here in Canada if you do not wish to ship it back to Moome.

Or he can send you the chip and you can do it yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron.

To send a PM click on the person's ID to the left of the message. A drop down menu should appear.

Mark & Graham;

If it's just the EDID chip, then I can replace it myself. Are you aware of any other upgrades beside the EDID chip (ie. resistor, cap, etc.) for other issues. My card has the following lable on it: Sony IFB V1.71, 2005.09.20.

I asked Moome about other upgardes, & he just indicated that if need, then he will. So, not sure if there are any other changes.

Graham, what does it take to get a new EDID ?

Also, is there any change that could help with the ABG (black level) on G70 ?

You may also want to try Moome's official support forum (http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33) for help too.

I just did this 2 weeks ago with my DVI card - it was from one of the early batches back in '05 as well ("SONY IFB V1.72 2005.11.30"). For less than $4US, Moome sent me the new chip - IC4 - and with a steady hand and some help from a magnifying glass the swap was a piece of cake.

A little searching around this forum and Curt's yielded a few good posts about the topic. Someone posted a good idea about technique - first solder all 4 pins on each side of the chip together so you can heat them all at the same time to make removal of the old chip easy. Worked like a charm...

Good luck.

Brian, I got an email from Moome last night and he said that I only need the new EDID chip. I sent him $4 for the shipping cost. I will update the post, once the IC gets here.

I would like to thank all of you for your help. Also, I need to thank Moome for his support in this matter.
