View Full Version : NEC 6PG Tubes
Anyone have any spare at the moment?
I mostly need green and blue....or just one. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a red on as well, but I need to replace green and blue the most. They have a bit of burn-in. It's usueable for movie watching, but I'd still prefer no squiggly burn marks that show up a bit in large light/bright areas.
Curt Palme 01-09-08, 02:56 AM EVERYONE is looking for those. I get about 5 emails a week.
There was someone parting out a PG with good tubes somewhere recently....
Well, if anyone knows anything or gets any info please point me in the right direction. :)

dropzone7 01-09-08, 08:26 AM I have a 6PG with good red and blue tubes. The green is pretty burned but the others are in great condition.
deronmoped 01-09-08, 01:17 PM At the right price, I would bet there are plenty of them out there:)
That is a downside of these PJ's being so inexpensive, no one wants to pay $2,100.00 for tubes for a PJ they bought for a few hundred. Then again if you bought those tubes and used them for 10,000 hours, that is only twenty one cents a hour. A killer deal.

Could you PM me how much you would be willing to sell each of those for and about how much use they've had? Also, how difficult is it to replace tubes?

It really helps to hear it that way, when you figure in the cost per hour it really makes it seem like retubeing is cost effective. Now all I have to do is convince myself to put down the money for a new green and blue for my G70 ;)
Vince_B 01-10-08, 10:44 PM I have a complete 6pg that really, really needs to get out of my garage. I'm parting it out to save on shipping and get it gone and hopefully the useful parts in someone's hands who wants them. I PM'd you but maybe I wasn't specific enough. Green has the slightest, and I mean slightest wear if you get down and squint. My vision is very good and I have to really look to pick it out. PM me if you're interested.

I'm interested in tubes, but I guess they are pricier than I expected for used tubes (not the red one). I'm worried if I paid that much I won't be able to install it. The red is decently priced, but green is kind of high. I figured the ones I need would be the pricey ones. lol. I think I need green more the most. I recall it being the one with the most burn-in. I'll have to recheck to make sure.
Vince_B 01-11-08, 08:00 AM Sent you a PM.
I still have a complete set of NEW NEC tubes in the boxes. But since nobody wants to pay even what rebuilds cost, I'm keeping them. :D
Case and point for the right price.

Vince_B 01-13-08, 11:06 AM Yeah having the tubes and parts for sale is an eye-opener. Basically what I'm asking for them would get your pj set for 8-9k hours for a price that is just a little more than what you pay for one bulb for a digital that will last 2-4k hours. Um, seems like a deal to me, esp since you would have to buy whole pj and have them shipped + take your chances on tube cond. to get the tubes otherwise. Anyway...

Everyone KNOWS how much the tubes are worth. Also, everyone WANTS original NEC tubes because they are better than rebuilds. But everyone wants to pay $50 for them. Sure, I can understand that... but when someone gets a set of mint ubes for an apple and an egg from some desperate soul, they turn around and gloat about what a sweet deal they got for their tubes. However, you can bet your last nickel that the same person would insist on top dollar if the shoe were on the other foot.
I think if someone does get a killer deal on parts we all know have a certain market value, just keep it quiet. I tried to sell a perfectly good PG9 plus for $500. No takers. With 3 good tubes, almost no wear at all. No one wanted it. $500 was too much money!! BUT..... VDC has no problem getting $600 for ONE tube.
So I just destroy the projectors now. (No one complain, you all had your chance.)
Anyway, I'm drifting off topic here. Take it for what it's worth, but good tubes are becomming rare, and I doubt they'll show up CHEAP. Just look at beaten up, junk vaccum tube gear. Everyone wants a fortune if it has even ONE tube in it. And they GET it.

Vince_B 01-14-08, 05:13 PM Yeah it hurt my feelings to part the thing out unceremoniously but the black level was never right and it needs the uber-tweaking. It's gonna be even worse when I cart it down to the trash tonight. Oh well.
