View Full Version : From Mits 65413HD Projection to HD Plasma Which?

I have owned a Mitsubishi 65413 for a couple years and, just recently, moved it with us to a new home. The room for TV in this house is smaller and, as you might suspect, the 65" projection rather dominates.

In terms of decorating, my wife is lobbying strongly for a flat screen "on the wall" setup to save floor space. I recognize the need for at least a rack for equipment, but concede that space savings would be found.

We have DirecTV and, unlike some, actually use our television predominantly for television (especially sports), as opposed to about once a week DVD's and virtually no gaming. I have come to appreciate the DH picture of this Mits and certainly would not want to go backwards in that regard. Too, I am spoiled by the large screen format and cannot see myself with anything less than a 50” screen. I run the audio through an Arcam AVR350, so I can consider top-flight monitors, as well.

Having done a bit of research on flat screens, it would seem that, for us, plasma is the way to go. Been thinking initially about some of the Pioneers, but am willing to consider others, of course.

My question is, given my situation, what would be your first choice be for an HD plasma flat screen wall hangar in the neighborhood below $3K? Thanks in advance.

if you have to stick with that budget and you can still find one a Pioneer 6070 would be a good choice. But strongly recommend you raise the budget to get the 8g Pioneer 6010. Going from a 65" down to a 60" isn't too bad. But dropping all the way down to a 50" would be a huge difference.

I am not sure what you mean by 8g. I have seen this unit for around $4,500 and I MIGHT go that high, but I very much doubt the ability to pull that amount off for a TV.

8g just references to the 6010 being the new 8th generation current model from pioneer with the deeper blacks and higher contrast.

you can also look for the samsung 5884 or panny 58pz700 58" plasmas as an option for a little less $$. or even the 58" 58ph10uk panny commercial model which a very nice plasma in your budget range. remember to add $100-400 for a wall mount

If you are forced to drop down to the 50" size, you should check out the

Pioneer PDP-5080HD,
Panasonic TH-50PZ700U,
Samsung FPT5084,

and at the high end of your budget

Pioneer Elite 1150HD.

The 1150HD looks VERY intriguing. It would look even more intriguing at about $2750! Ha! In fact, if I could get one for that, I'd certainly do an immediate trigger pull. ;)

ok, the PRO1150 is a great choice, pull that trigger. add shipping in and it's still under your total budget from John Marty at Axxis Audio and yes, they are an authorized Pioneer Elite dealer. click on the link at the bottom of the page and talk to John he should have you a new PRO1150 on the way asap, well he may be at CES but just get in touch with them and see.

The CURRENT price of the Pioneer PRO-FHD1 makes it look inviting, too. I do like the monitor acpect since, with DirecTV and my Arcam receiver, I really do not need a tuner or sound processing. Are the latest Pioneers markedly better than the FHD1 with respect to PQ?
