Owned an old ECP 3100 but never really got the hang of it and sold it off. Wondering if anyone from the Winnipeg area could help me find a unit (possibly provide a bit of a walkthrough by phone/email or in-person of the setup).

Thanks.

so your looking for another ECP, wow, dare to dream:D Seriously though, go for a Marquee and add an HDMI input card to it. still one of the best pics out there.

Where did he say he was looking for an ECP?

I agree get a Quee' or any 8" EM machine for that matter, it will be a giant step up from an ECP and with prices like they are it won't break the bank.

No, I'm not looking for an ES set. Besides, the ECP was a piece of junk from the start (bad blue tube with fungus, all kinds of stability issues, red tube cracked after five months, etc.). Not that those kind of things are specific to ES sets but I'm looking for a good quality EM (NEC preferred).

Thing is, I can't find any locally and do want to pay a premium and get one from a reseller. Plus, I'm not sure if EM sets are the same in terms as setup as the ECP was.

Hence the shout out to locals :)

What do you mean "the same in terms of setup"

If you are looking for something similar to the ECP you should really look for a Marquee, it will also be easy to setup.

However if you are willing to spend some time learning a NEC might be a good fit as the PG xtra series machines are about the best bang for your buck right now, Keep in mind though that a NEC will generally be harder to get up and running than a Quee'

To clarify, I was just wondering if the mechanical, optical and electronic setup processes were similar. What's the going rate on a good condition NEC that can do 720p?

Setup will be similar on all machines (to a point). The biggest difference will be a more comprehensive setup on higher end machines.

How much you will have to spend will depend on how long you are willing to wait for a deal to show up. Some people get lucky and get a good one for a couple hundred, however you have to remember that tube condition will determine the value of the machine. A $200 machine with worn tubes can cost as much as a set with good tubes and a warrenty from Curt by the time you finish refurbishing it.

I went from a ECP4100 to a Marquee 8500... it wasnt too much of a learning curve. The 8500 is more stable too. There are a few CRT guys in Wpg.

I have an XG1352 here in Winnipeg.
Not dirt cheap but not reseller pricing either.
Tubes are near perfect and it has a moome DVI card.
Approx 1000 hours on the tubes.
PM Me.

wow, if he can handle the learning curve that would be one incredible machine for him.

There is no learning curve. I can set up, tweak and maintain for him.

Yeah, I know. I just can't stay with one machine. The NEC has to be at least my 10th LOL. Stil looks fantastic and has been trouble free except for that initial glycol leak that you and I repaired when i first got it a couple years ago. i don't use it much. think i've put on around 700 hours since i got it.
Time to move on.
