I'm considering buying one of these 2 remotes but I have a few questions before I do.

1) Besides the obvious, what of some of the differences between TSU9600 and TSU9400? Feature wise?

2) I would like to setup different remote profiles/menus/etc based. So at startup you would get a list of Users/Profiles. Click on one and that is the remote menu/configuration you get. Do any of these Prontos support user profiles? Is this functionality possible with any remote?

3) Can these remotes be configured to control Zwave devices?

4) Anyone care to list some additional pros/likes and cons/dislikes of these models to help me with my decision?

5) Can someone please PM me some street prices/dealers on the TSU9600 / TSU9400? :)

Thank you
Christopher

Hi

Before I attempt to answer your questios, I want you to know that I am a big Pronto fan. I have used them in my home for nearly 10 years, I currently have six including 2 9600's in my system and have no experience with Harmony/RTI/Nevo/Etc.

1. The 9400 does not support sound file (if that is important to you), the screen on the 9600 is 4X the resoultion of the 94 and is extremely bright and sharp, those are the only two I can think of other than the obvious.

2. This would be possible, it would involve some careful programming as a profile is not really supported and might invole some duplication of devices inside the remote but never the less possible.

3. Don't know, I will try to do a little research on Zwave and get back to you.

4. Of all the Philips remotes I have owned these are the most flexable, the network based operation is especially great and has allowed me to do many additional things in my systwm.

5. Do a search on ebay

Hands down get the TSU9600, with the RFX-9400. Its a little more flexible, and the screen is absolutely beautiful... I just bought my second unit as well...

These things are amazingly durable... they survived a few impacts to the hardwood floor.... I was pissed as hell, but needless to say, not one single issue... :)

Thanks Tom and Warpdrv!

I ended up buying the TSU9600 from J R . c o m . They gave me an excellent price on it. I should be receiving it on the 15th. I already downloaded the ProntoEdit Pro software and have started creating my remote setup. So far I'm really impressed with the level of flexibility and customization. I'm a software developer so creating UIs and programming Macros come pretty natural. Thanks again for the info!

Questions:
1) Does the TSU9600 have the ability to do RF out of the box?

2) Besides extending the range of the TSU9600, what other benefits does the RFX-9400 add?

Thanks,
Christopher

yes the 9600 has the ability to do RF out of the box, but it will only do it in conjunction with the RFX-9400 for IR blasting, or the RFX-9600 that adds the ability to control external devices, and has or will have 2 way communication with devices.

The RFX-9400 will add the ability to use WIFI for extending the range throughout your network if connected. So far I only use RF with the TSU9600 paired with the RFX9400. I get a very large range between the devices, and have felt no need to use WiFi yet... I am getting a second remote for my bedroom and will run it the same way for now.
